That old girl fired right up! Incredible that it fired up, and ran successfully after 16 years of sitting, just with a new battery! She’s definitely a keeper now!!!
I had a N-14 select, that was set to a straight 460 HP all the time! Best motor ever! The throttle pedal is a electronic position sensor! Take it off and test it first, before buying new! Getting the cab jack assembly is the first step, then you can get to the shift tower on the transmission, may just be a broke/bent shift fork! Start at the ignition switch and work your way to the dash for power. Clean all the grounds first!!!! Both ends! Get a wire wheel and clean the battery terminals/cables! CLEAN ALL THE GROUNDS!! Can't stress this enough! Oh, and clean all the grounds!!!!!!! Take the main line off the air compressor, see if it is putting out air! Then check the air drier! May be stuck open! Keep following the air lines, you will find the problem! Motor sounds great, you are going to like the power! Tou got a good one here!

It took one and a half hour when i last week removed the 13 speed from my 74 Kenworth W900. It was most work to get the exhaust off. And then it took 4-5 hours to get the new transmission in and get all air lines routed and the exhaust in place.
That socket ext. trick dropped though the hose was worth the whole video. I fight with clogged hoses all the time and have tried all kinds of tricks but that is one of those why didn't I think of that.
I went to this factory job and haven’t driven in a couple years now, but watching this tempts me so bad to get a cab over and go back to driving. I miss parts of driving, and I love cabovers.
before yanking the box out, i'd be looking at the clutch master and slave cylinders. it might just be a simple fix like that. which is probably going to be easier to do.
Take a wrench and bang on the air governor and wiggle the ignition switch a few times. Remember they haven't been used in 15 years either. I'm proud for you man it sounds great. Those are great engines and very tunable and 40# to 45# of oil pressure is good on an 855 Cummins.
I love a n 14 especially the celect plus readheads. They where king of the coalfields in the 90”s. I drove a pay star black diamond with one and it was always my favorite. 💪🏼
Yeah, I was shocked. I was waiting to do a whole bunch of prep work but dad talked me into trying it. Now I need to get new oil in it, Coolant and clean fuel.
That’s so kool, it’s alive. Sounds Good luv that whistle sounds like it might be a Holset turbo? Keep the 13 speed. The 18 is longer. You would have to shorten the drive shaft. Also mike listen to your dad he’s got good advice. Can’t wait to see what’s next. 👍👍

The N14 is a great engine. It has just enough electronics to help its reliability a bit from the tried & true 855. The cooling fan will most likely be an electric solenoid to allow air to run the fan clutch. She should be a good truck when you get her finished. Thank Andrea (sp?) again for allowing 4 toys. She is an awesome wife. It would be a great length to tow a gooseneck camper trailer. Love your Dad's Super Duty
Good runner throttle pedal is probably just position sensor . Gauges I would open up that panel and see if everything is connected somewhere behind there is a connector. Nice thing with that engine is you can get flash codes with those diagnostics switches.
OMG... You had the Neg connected.... and your 1/2 inch wrench was sooooo close to hitting the metal hold down. I was waiting for the giant spark... but, you got lucky. You didn't heed the old man's advice. You might not be so lucky next time. POSITIVE... First! Great video.
Glad too see Stubby has a working engine. The rest can be fixed/replaced with time. I would replace the deck though as its looking like scrap. Removing it may help with access to various parts as you need to remove the transmission. I agree with your wife, get your current trucks running and in a good state before buying anything else. Once your happy with them seek a 5th to keep them company. Your Dad is a cool guy, you are lucky.
I had same problem and now thirty years later, all I remember was it was simple to fix and mine had set in kansas for about eight to ten years .... bought the truck on a trip out and parked it at brothers house and then he up and passed away making me have to move it. Very inconsiderate of him to tip over at the young age of forty. Actually a better brother never as we were very close and miss him yet today. He spent seven tours in vietnam.. they sent him home on a medical discharge. He used to start it up when he was drunk and go down and spin brodies around the cop shop... they would just send him home. Too damn crazy for their little hotel for one nighters and hmm, a shaft that turns the air compressor broke on mine.
Watching here in Australia, I think you need Dad as your shop foreman his priorities seem to be the best way to go deck off trans out air system than worry about the shiny bits,Truck on.

The 13 speed tranny is easy enough to overhaul, Just remember to put the gears in correct time when you put it back together; front unit and also back unit too. If you put it back together out of time it will be locked up.(just some advice from an old truck mechanic) By the way, Your Dad is a wise man, he knows a lot.
Mike when you looked at the chromed steel bumper on Stubby you wondered why or where you could get the round fog lights for it.
