Interestingly enough, I've been motivated by discussing my characters with someone else. Realizing how real they've become gives me an added motive to return to the project even when I start doubting myself, because I realize I'm no longer alone in the process of telling the story.

These are all terrific suggestions, Alyssa. Whenever I read the acknowledgments in a book, the author usually thanks their agent, their editors, their publisher, the eleven professionals who helped with research, their spouse and their family. That's a business operation that many writers don't have access to. I find it helpful to read debut novelists, writers with day jobs, because that's what I am right now. We have to fight in our weight class, not measure our progress against Stephen King's.

This video made me cry.... Probably some tension from overwhelmedness, pressure and depression coming out.... We are all in this together❣ We can conquer this! A good book is not written just by anybody everyday, or else anybody would do it.

I've been walking away or away a bit lately. I go back to it. I write once a week and sometimes once every few weeks but I definitely want to sit down more often to write. Trying to keep it fun. Thank you so much for this discussion.

I just discovered your channel and I love it. It's great to know you're getting info from someone who's been at the front lines. This video in particular I'm very happy to see because it makes me believe you truly do care about helping writers. And yes, writer's block kicks my ass. But this video helped. Sometimes we need to be reminded of these things. I hope you make more videos in this vein to help break writers out of their mental prisons. And thank you for all the info you share. Bravo!

A big motivator for me was to decide on self-publishing. I've accepted that I'm not welcome in the traditional publishing world, and I've now found the time to do all the fine-comb editing and marketing myself.

Thank you for a very timely topic. I have agreed to write a local history book, and I am struggling. Thank goodness I have an amazing group of critique partners, and videos like yours, to help me continue with this project.

Yes you are an inspirer as you articulate these writing hills and valleys. There's no question that the more you have the courage to express yourself the more you will come up with ways to do what needs doing. It becomes a continuous internal conversation.

I have a stack of unfinished projects. Years ago I managed to sell several short stories but that's not supportive income. And now, I am under risk of becoming homeless. Too many barriers to go through. Yet stories and characters pester me. But I just don't have the energy anymore. Yes, have a caseworker, meds and such but nothing works. Your video sounds good and hope others benefit.

Thank you so much for this video, Alyssa. I actually teared up while watching it. So often as a struggling writer/aspiring author it can be so difficult to force yourself to get those words out on the page. Your dedication to helping us - people you don't even know - push through that slog and help us find the success we aspire to is truly inspirational enough on its own. Thank you for everything you put out there.

Interesting and a much motivating video.
_When I am into _*_writer's block_* ... I take off for a few days and absolutely stop thinking about the twist and turns in the story.
I usually find a solution or come up with an idea ... so I immediately resume writing!
It's as simple as that, in my case!

What helps me is to take a break. Play a game or watch some videos. If still nothing, I usually have the motivation the following day.

Ahhh I love this video!! I do not really have problems with writer's block, or inspiration writing (yet!). My problem is when I am dealing with something, I feel like my mind can be in a negative space, and I feel it hinders my creativity, and sometimes affects my tone when writing. But then sometimes I find those are the times to write my serious darker scenes. I am innately happy, and a glass half full kind of person, so I find I just do not write as much during these times and I have to literally tell that part of the brain, ok time for you to go into a little box, and no coming out, and no peaking for the next hour! Sometimes it works, other times not, haha. Videos like this, character brainstorming, or even reading help me get through these rough spots when I am really wanting to write, but just don't because I think, or rather, that nonstop talking part of the brain thinks I am better off waiting.

I no longer think of writing in terms of projects. I focus on the daily activity, whether it’s writing exercises, prewriting / outlining, drafting, or editing. If I do one of those things every day for at least two hours a novel is going to happen no matter what.
The result in that paradigm shift was the loss of anxiety over whether or not that one particular project ‘is any good’. Remove that anxiety and motivation ceases to be a challenge.

I had my book done read to send out. Then I got a call from my sister asking me where I was. I told her I ran down to pack so stuff for our house we were building. Ready for us to move in My book my chip my computer my everything was there. She was at the school and told me my house was on fire. Just gone I was writing that book since 2018 when I woke up in the hospital. Now to bring that book back its hard now its on memories. I had in 2017 when I landed in the hospital was heart disease 2017 I had a stroke and a heart pump also called Lvad 2018 I was gifted with a heart I plan to tell my story in two to three different ways now. One is every hard as backflashes' are very real. And I have to carry a notebook and pencil with me every where's I go. They come anytime even when I'm talking to someone or watching Tv driving writing its hard cooking cleaning it stops me wherever I am. After the fire I shut down on a lot I can't get myself to open the notebook to write.

I'm trying to wrote the fourth book in my series but NOTHING WILL COME and then all of a sudden I have a huge massive idea for a romance novel which is going so well, but my fourth novel has been stuck for months! So down about my fourth one! But it'll come!

Usually, people start writing serials without chalking out the story outline for the entire series. There has to be a specific activity that the main character must do or achieve in every part.
Hence, without a long-term Storyboard one ends up this way because an ad-hock stretching of the story puts the writer on a tangent!
      I hope this might help.
      Regards,

@@VenturesAdventure usually I'd agree but I wrote the first 3 novels in rapid succession through intuition alone, and each novel has a different MC so this one just isn't playing along.
