Growing up I new nothing about music other than I liked to listen to it I couldn't play a radio without static. Now that I'm an old man looking back there really isn't anything I'd change about my life. Watching Dr K does make me wish I would have been interested in the piano because he has so much fun. If it wasn't for my crippled up old hands I would try it today. Thank you Dr K you make me feel young again my foot taps & my head bobs when you start to Boogie.

Dr. K has created a new form of musical education blending his performance skills with the idea of singing in the public square of the global village on RUclips. He makes a joke of his academic credentials (Dr K) though he actually has a PhD - but he truly is mentor and professor to hundreds of young (and not so young) musicians. It seems to me he never "tricks" anyone in a way that makes them feel bad about themselves. If anything, he embodies the "trickster" in mythology that gets people to perform at a level beyond what they would have thought possible. Well done.

Btw: the piece at the beginning was a church music from J S Bach which is supposed to be played on a huge church organ, the bigger the better. If you hear it from cd or on YT via headphone or a strong HiFi speaker system it will give you goose bumps all over. You don't need to be religious for that. I once heard it some 40 years ago beeing played on the organ in the "Freiburger Münster", a cathedral in southern Germany. I was totally overwhelmed by the music and especially by the sound of the organ in that church..!

Just to digress. The other day I came across something that surpasses all your past and your future. You were playing on a white piano but do not know where and you had a little boy on your lap who had, apparently been having a tantrum. You played "Danny Boy" and that child hardly moved watching you play. It was the best version of that song - which I am not fond of - I have ever heard. You may have started that child on a musical career!! It was absolutely gorgeous and I have just got find it again. Thanks a thousand. I will never forget your compassion or your humanity among such brilliance and talent. Hope you read this.
What I love about these videos is that the joke is never at the expense of the other piano player. They're really nice in helping a man out with the piano and then it becomes clear that he knows how to play :) Everyone's having a great time, including those sitting about in or walking through St Pancras Station (pretty certain that's the piano by the Eurostar exit).

I had piano lessons for 10 years but this guy is just phenomenal. Emma has really enjoyed herself. I'd love to play piano when this guy but I live in Shropshire. Well done both. 👏 xx
at 4:43 she knew...when chords are struck anyone with piano training knows the difference in middle and brilliant. Yet, the very experienced and (usually classically trained) can pick up very quickly how amazing they are. You know the Debussy, the Chopin waltzes, and other great music. The geniuses understand the difference in playing and making. The reason Dr. K. thrills people is because he has his own "composer's mind." And he plays by ear a from what I know, and he is original to the people and adaptable to those same people. When he combines amazing talent with the ability to amaze people while kids aged 2-95 years old stop and have fun...well, know you know what makes Dr. K so special to me.

at 4:43 she knew...when chords are struck anyone with piano training knows the difference in middle and brilliant. Yet, the very experienced and (usually classically trained) can pick up very quickly how amazing they are. You know the Debussy, the Chopin waltzes, and other great music. The geniuses understand the difference in playing and making. The reason Dr. K. thrills people is because he has his own "composer's mind." And he plays by ear a from what I know, and he is original to the people and adaptable to those same people. When he combines amazing talent with the ability to amaze people while kids aged 2-95 years old stop and have fun...well, know you know what makes Dr. K so special to me.
