    This reminded me of when I took piano lessons as a teenager. I'd play broken chords for 45 minutes trying to figure out a few measures of a new piece I was learning. Then my piano teacher would hop on and bring the piano to life. Every note in every chord was crisp and the perfect volume at the perfect tempo. Hearing the potential of what my piano could sound like gave me the motivation to keep practicing for the week until my next lesson. I was reminded of that when Brendan hopped on the piano in this video. Just the difference in finger strength between a lifetime of playing versus someone who plays on the side stood out to me. Although, this Swiss girl was quite good on her own!

    • @johnflavin1602
      @johnflavin1602 3 года назад +11

      Yeah, I’ve noticed that too. An experienced player plays on my piano and it’s like woah how the hell did he get it to sound that good! I’m been learning for about a year. I think you’re right about the finger strength and technique. A lot of people think it’s just about playing the right notes but there’s so much more, technique wise, to playing the piano.

    • @deepg7084
      @deepg7084 3 года назад +13

      @@johnflavin1602 Finger strength is something my teacher used to talk to me about a lot because I struggled with playing very high tempo. I remember he once told me to hold out my hand and compared my fingers with his. His fingers were like sausages and mine were like twigs lol. He said his fingers weren't always like that, they just got stronger from a lifetime of playing. He gave me exercises to perform on the piano to strengthen my fingers. Finger strength isn't for playing louder, but for greater control. Notice Brendan's facial expression almost never changes no matter how fast or loud he's playing. He's always under control. He can even hold a conversation while playing very fast lol. That is finger strength.

    What's funny about these "I don't know how to play" videos is that there ARE people in this world who have never heard a piece who can instantly play it. I've seen videos of savants who are deficient in many other areas but sit them down in front of a piano, play them a song, and they can repeat it instantly. It's pretty amazing to see.
    A buddy of mind is amazing with a guitar. He was given one even before he could walk and been playing ever since. You can play him a song from the radio or ?? and he can get it down almost instantly. He's played so much his left hand fingers are longer than his right, and his palms are different sizes.

      Sweet…he’s so gentle about “pranking” her…and she takes it all in good humor. Sad to say, if you left a piano out in a public space like this here in the U.S., it would be completely trashed in a day or two if you didn’t have a security guard assigned to watch over it.

    Frightening video. I emigrated from the UK in December 1961 and was shocked to see Police carrying revolvers in open carry on arrival. I went back in the 1970s and coppers carrying guns was rare. I look now and no one is surprised to see two Police in a public place in the background carrying automatic weapons. How times have sadly changed.

      They do this by consensus. The British public backs them. So the guns don’t dictate the agenda.

      @@chrisd8265 One always thinks well of life in the "good old days" in one's country of origin. They dont exist of course but its one of the symptoms of old age. Just for your interest since you ask where I have been - in the last 20 years prior to retirement I was working in corrections (including prisons); law enforcement; and finally in the investigation of maladministration and ethical conduct. I never carried a firearm in all that time, and only once prior early in the 1980s when my then agency was working with another much bigger agency on a common matter. It was concealed carry, small and purely for self defence.

    I see the Police (Bobbie's) walking in the back ground carrying AR-15's @ 6 : 33. Must be trouble at the station. That Lady (young woman) plays very well. Sorry, very hard to hear her, lots of back ground noise. Did not hear what she had to say :(☹What a helpful young woman.🥰
