My eldest was nine when I got this and she enjoyed it. Regarding Kicking or passing, you end up using the quarterback to toss it forward, but really most of it is based on running plays though

So sorry. I never got a notification that you asked this. My 8 and 10 year old played with it and loved it. The kicking works with a special character with a spring loaded device. The game is mostly a running game.
