I had the 620 Superbowl model and now wish I had never gotten rid of it years ago, but it became a hassle to lug around from duty station to duty station. I should've just kept it at my parent's house. I remember playing for hours and hours. The players rarely did what I wanted them to do (mainly ran around in circles) but that was part of the challenge of the game!

My brother and I created a 24 team league that we played a 10 game schedule for each team. It was so much fun. !! We even kept statistics and compiled the data and had league leaders just like the newspaper. It was all very organized and we even typed out all the info and had a standings page! Great stuff- we were really into it!

It's basically wargaming but with a mechanism that moves the base rather than using a set of rules to determine how the models move. Nice stuff.

I was watching this video and was thinking about table top wargaming, then I read your comment. You're totally right. The creativity and customizing of the football player figures reminds me of some of the great painting and detailing found on Dungeons & Dragon miniatures as well. Good video and it's good to know that that electronic football is still around.

My brother and I spent many hours engaged in mortal combat on the electric football field. I can vividly remember us getting grounded from it when we decided to add a little extra “excitement” to it as only a 10 and 12 year old set of brothers can. We dosed both lines in lighter fluid, lit up and my halfback, and sent him on an off tackle power run. Watching both lines go up in flames like the the Hindenburg was an EPIC experience. Moms just don’t understand what fun really is .................

It's great that these people are enjoying this game. My friends and I use to play this game back in the early '60's. We painted our teams and had leagues like today's players. The game board back then was metal, but you could adjust the speed of the game, slowing it down to see if a play is downed or is missed. I gave all my teams to my son and wonder if he ever kept them. I think I'll ask. Good luck, have fun.

@Brian Jones Hi Brian, well we took a lot of care with the rules and even kept stats of each player on runs, passing, tackles, TD's, and kept wins and loses for each persons team. I used to play Electric Football as a kid, had an awesome time with it. But your definition of "Video Games" is completely wrong. Even young kids have Xbox Live, or Playstation Network. This allows them to talk and meet other people from around the WORLD, not just locally. If your an older gamer, your most likely using a PC, and using Discord or Team Speak to communicate with other like minded gamers. I have friends in the U.K, Norway, Finland, Australia, Spain, Ireland, Kuwait, Belgium, people I've forged friendships with for over 15 years of PC Gaming. I'm sorry, but the days of Kids, or older gamer's talking to a screen are from the 80's. It's a whole new ball game. Great video, was still very cool to see.

My brother and I created a 24 team league that played a 10 game schedule in 1978 that I drew up and created a statistics sheet for each game. We compiled stats and had statistical leaders for offense just like it appeared in the newspaper. (You guys remember what that is, right? Lol) It was amazing!! We had a modified version of the ball( on passing plays) that was made from a small piece of aluminum foil folded and formed around the passers arm/hand lever. The ball could hit the receiver on the fly or on a bounce- didn’t matter- still pretty hard to pull off!!! So much fun. I should publish this stuff it was so cool. Anthony S Nope. I grew up with these and I’m an old fart, but, no. It’s all about simulation and Madden, from the beginning, is just better. I also sculpt and make models, so I appreciate the artistry and I’m happy these guys have fun. But... yeah, madden is just better.

If anyone could put me in touch with Sheila Scott's husband - they showed him briefly with what looked like an incredible WVU team setup - I'd very much appreciate it. Thank you!

Looks fuckin cool to me. When you find something like that your passionate about, fuck what other people think about it. In the end you have to live in your own skin. Ive been fixated with video games since I was 6, starting with the atari 2600 in 86. It still gets negative associations even though its very popular now. Never got along with people in general so didnt give a shit. Thirty three years later the passion has only grown stronger.
Im also a weightlifter of 25 years. Though into more of the darker aspects of it, and not for health. The abuse comes at a price and your body cant continue that brutality for ever without breaking down. With games I can get all that intensity out of my system by taking on extreme challenges, but without destroying myself completely. Gaming was always my true passion. The lifting was born out of trying to manage mental demons. Ive turned my focus even heavier in that direction now and get much more satisfaction from that, then previous lifts and size increases when training.

    • @ElectricFootball

Yeah we do! Usually folks staying at whatever hotel the tournament is being held at will stop by and watch as well as some friends, families, and fans of the coaches. How can you not be curious about a ballroom filled with little buzzing football fields!?
