One issue, you only use accounting profit. It would be better to us economic profit, which will include what the cost would be if we didn't have the subway. It will change the picture completely. Accounting profit is misleading for public goods.
Nearly 6 Million people riding daily. Yet there's no money to modernize the system as a whole. And they are still using original parts in the subway system used ONE HUNDRED YEARS AGO. They need to look to Japan for help.
hi, do you have any old video of buses in the 5 boro of NYC including the Washington bus invading and the 58 hundred series gray hound buses that visited Staten Island one time
I am not quite understanding the point you're making here. Are you suggesting that because much of the MTA is subsidized, that it's "over budget"? That would assume public transit should be profit-making, or at the very least self-sustaining. It is not, and never should be. Otherwise, fares would be double-digits, not $2.75, which would make it out-of-reach for many of those who the system was built for in the first place. Public transit must be subsidized. That's just the way it is.
I got a quick question: What if New Jersey Transit will buy the struggling PATH trains between New York and New Jersey about struggling ridership on weekdays?
@@qjtvaddict The reason it’s a poor service is because of underfunding, the use of MTA revenue as a piggy bank by politicians to fund other projects, and the neoliberal belief that public services are supposed to make a profit.
@@andrewDaMack i mean it is, in the broader scope of city economics. without the subway new york city would quite literally stop functioning. if you look at only the hard numbers tied to the ridership then yeah its quite far from the mark. but the money it brings into the city just by existing is unparalleled.
A lot going on in our aging subway systems of NYC has some great performances even with the new signal system that has been installed in tunnels of Queens lines having issues even the signals are not adjustable to operate aging subway car groups for nostalgia events or better yet the agency may have to get new basic signal system, high tech trains performance may be great but no meaning that they are perfect too, even when fixing them may not last for a good while as well! Trackless buses still chokes up the time and congestions street car trollies would make traveling run faster speeds too, that what it needs too!
Per your graphic, 60 percent of the MTA budge goes to payroll. WoW! That would explain why the MTA isn't at least self sustainable. With that many daily ridership and fares ever increasing (its now $2.75 a ride) and all the revenue from advertisement and space rentals one would think the MTA could at least fund itself.
The MTA doesn’t handle the subway New York City Transit Authority is the entity that does. MTA covers all public transport in the NY State area including tunnels and bridges, and was formed in 1968 the TA was formed in the 50’s. Get your facts straight!
....i believe you may want to get your own facts straight. the two entities operate together. the NYCTA is a subsidiary of the MTA, it's part of the broader organization and they run together. thats why the metro cards, subway cars, and the uniforms on conductors/subway employees all say "MTA" on them, because in 1994 the MTA did some rebranding and named the system in the city MTA New York City Transit (NYCT).

There’s actually 23 trains if you count the W train

It's the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, not "transit."
New York City is the only place in the United States where at least half it’s population doesn’t own an automobile.

The MTA isn’t supposed to be profitable, it’s a service not a business.
The MTA is not AMUSED.
A very poor one at that

What a misleading title. I wanted to hear way more about the construction and development of the systems. Why are you talking about accounting so much

Maybe they should charge more?
What?
But what kind of 'Woke' policies does the MTA promote?
