  • The Lutsen 99er is an Ultra Mountain Bike Race through 99 miles of the most rugged terrain Minnesota has to offer. The race starts and finishes at Lutsen Mountains and winds from the coast of Lake Superior through the peaks of the Sawtooth Mountains.
This was my third Lutsen 99er race and the weather was perfect! The elevation gain was 6,700 feet with a total of distance of 101.2 based on their ridewithgps file. I finished 8:03:59 with an overall place of 343rd out of 504, 97th out of 132 M40-49 and pace was 13 mph. My GoPro video shows the different types of terrain and it was mounted on the front of on my USWE backpack. My preference for Go Pro is the handlebar, but with the 2020 Spark RC World Cup’s Fraser IC handlebar, I did not have time to research options. My moving time was 7:57 which included 6 rest stop to refill and this was less of a race and more of a training ride for my first attempt at Leadville 100 with my Roots Racing teammates this August.

Thanks for posting. Great trail views there. I'm a road bike enthusiast but I decided to expand my horizons a bit and signed up for the 99er this year. My mt bike is a Trek Xcaliber and a lower end model, not the lightest but I think it'll be ok. Being in my peak form will be the challenge and I plan on doing several 100 mile days in the weeks before this event in preparation.

Great riding with you today on my peloton. Great footage. Reminds me why I never sign up for that one!

Thank you so much for posting this. I’m a mountain biking noob and just signed up for the 25er. I had no idea what to expect, this is so helpful to get a feeling of wha to expect. Thanks also for sharing your times, pace, elevation and where that might place you. This will give me some goals of how to train ahead of the race. You doing it again this year?
