I realized the mistake in my citizenship certificate later and unfortunately my name and surname have changed places. We applied to the court to correct it and I have court in February. what should I do? I am very excited and I am afraid something will go wrong again. Can you help me please?
Does this apply to having a hyphenated last name dropped? I’ve only used my fathers last name. I’ve never hyphenated my name and none of my school records including applying to fasfa ever included my mothers maiden name.

I had to move away from some violent neighbors. I would like to chamge my name but I don't want to have to publish it. Sounds like they could look me up.
I have a felony that I got sentenced for 10 years ago but I was sentenced to 2 years of probation and so it has only been 8 years since the completion of my probation ..my felony not of a severe nature and I have very important reasons for changing my name ..both of these things I do believea judge would understand if presented with ..so is the 10 year stipulation something that is set in stone and will automatically disqualify me from changing my name or is this something that is at the discretion of the judge and can be determined to be relevant or not with the original application ..I need to know this before I can apply because the fee for the application is over $300 and non refundable

Hi, thanks so much for your question. Our attorneys are working on an article right now to address your questions, and we will update you once it's posted.
Hi SaintTrinianz! Thank you for reaching out with your question. In Illinois, you can generally revert to your maiden name after a divorce, even if more than 10 years have passed. The ability to do so typically depends on the terms of your divorce decree. If the decree included a provision allowing you to revert to your maiden name, you may be able to change your name without much hassle. However, if your divorce decree didn’t address this, you can still petition the court for a name change. The process involves filing a petition with the court in the county where you reside. You’ll need to provide a reason for the name change and, in most cases, publish a notice of the name change in a local newspaper unless the court waives this requirement. Keep in mind that this is not legal advice and does not establish an attorney-client relationship.
