I was a veterinary technician for 20 years for small animals.. I really enjoy your videos because I've seen fish problems, but the veterinarian's I worked for didn't handle these kind of delicate situations. Very interesting.. most people think... but it's only a fish? But as we know, Fish are people's babies too and they are very loved and can be quite expensive at times. What a great field of practice. thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience.
I wonder if putting sharp implements like scissors inside mouth could create cuts in mouth? Should the fish be treated for those? Thanks for another great video
I needed the services of Dr Loh recently, and was not disappointed. Sadly what my Attila the dwarf gourami had was terminal and he didn't recover, but I received an excellent consult. I have learned to avoid gouramis, and rather a lot about fish viruses as a result. Thank you doctor. Now, an episode about that awful iridovirus, and how to manage the after effects in a tank would be grand. Please and thank you.
Hello sir I am one of your biggest fan, and I want to become a veterinary doctor just like you in future, you inspire me a lot 😃. Love and respect from India .
I have come across this hundreds of times in aquaculture, but more interestingly I have come across it dozens of times in the wild. What anaesthetic do you use for this kind of operation? AQUI-S?
Amazing how you removed that tiny fish from the fish's mouth, Great job Dr Loh! Do you always do house calls? Where are your located? I really need you right now for my sick koi. I don't know what's wrong, so treated entire fish tank with a natural treatment called (microbe lift parazoryne and sebbactisum) 2 x a day for 10 days, finished meds a day ago but my koi is still lethargic, she'll swim around for a minute or two but will go back to her spot in bottom corner of tank, but when I have bloodworms she immediately comes swimming for them as if nothing's wrong. I put activated carbon to remove meds and 50% water change for now will do another tomorrow in my 300 gallon tank with waterfall, 2 aeration stones and extra pump for more circulation for my 2 koi and pleco. Only had the 2 koi for a year and had my pleco for at least 10 years, don't want to lose them, just don't know what to do now. Any advise would be helpful. Love watching your video's very knowledgeable and your so delicate with the fishies~
I have a large koi I'm currently building a pond for, he's 22ish inches. Unfortunately he ate one of his tank mates this morning, a gourami he grew up with. I can see the fish tail in his mouth as he's having a hard time closing it. I'm curious since it's almost down if I should let him keep working on it. He seems a little uncomfortable but his breathing is ok I think? His fins aren't clamped and he's swimming around a bunch. I don't want to unnecessarly hurt him. Should I leave it for a day?
Hi...been going crazy trying to prepare a 55 gallon freshwater tank for fish, but the ammonia keeps shooting up. Tried ammonia blockers, probiotics, and water changes...any advice?!?!
Hey Sarah! So i can suggest you watch this video ruclips.net/video/tboee9qdTDE/видео.html from aquarium cooop on ammonia spikes. What helped me when i had an ammonia spike, was 50-60% water changes twice per day, then once per day and using seachem prime to make the new water aquarium safe before turning the filter back on. I did that daily water changes for 7-8 days. Not feeding your fish helps as well, but if you're doing a fishless cycle, try not putting any additional ammonia or food inside until it calms down. Also, adding some plants will help for sure, just make sure you clean them properly before putting them in the tank. Sheila from lifewithpets on RUclips has a good instructional video how to prepare plants for aquariums. If you have access to already cycled filter media, try putting that in your filter, maybe from a friend who also owns an aquarium, but some pet stores sell cycled filter media. That should introduce the bacteria into your tank quicker.
Have you tested your tap water? Is your tank cycled. Is your Tank over crowed. Are you over feeding. Have you vacuum your gravel Do you have dead fish that you can not see Decaying plants
Hello, i a new here.o you have like and sub from me.. Unfortunately, what brought me here, was my oscar xoclid has a fish tail hanging out of his mouth.. It has been like this for nearly 2 days.. I do not want to euthanize my oscar, i just want to get this fish out of his mouth before i lose him. I do not want to leave it much longer
Phenoxyethanol is what's available from fish shops outside of Australia. Clove oil is used by many aquarists. As veterinarians, we can choose from alfaxalone, MS222, and iso-eugenol for example.

Is it the fact these cichlids are not strong or big enough to do so? Great video as always.

Hi hope someone can help with a problem i have with my black ghost knife fish. It’s mouth seams to be stuck open. He is approximately 10” long about 5 years old. Tank mate’s include 2 discusses approximately 3.5” newest addition to the tank. 4 panda garara, one angel fish about 8 years old and a spotted Raphael catfish. The most recent addition are the 2 discus fish. Although I quarantine the fish before adding them to the tank. One of them appears to have white poop. I am wondering if this may also be the cause of the knife fishes mouth being stuck open?

Anyone got any suggestions to my dilemma it will be much appreciated. So I’ve got a molly that I’ve had since it was born and it had a tiny black ‘eyebrow’ looking line above it’s eye. That fell off and now a tumour has grown under her eye causing that eye to become blind. Since two days ago I’ve noticed a blood vessel appear in the tumour, so I don’t think I will be able to remove it. She is acting completely fine and isn’t getting bullied by the other fish in the tank but I worry that the tumour will continue to grow.
It probably will continue to grow, if it isn't harming the fish I'd say leave it alone. At some point if it does cause distress you may have to just euthanize it. Mollies aren't very large fish so surgery can be difficult for them to recover from
Look into betta tumor treatments. Not sure the compatibility with mollies. People also do "surgery" on their bettas to get rid of tumors so maybe look into that route

Fish will get sick and sometimes they do not recover, and yes i do not like it.
No one going to mention the fact the tank is in a shower cubicle in a bathroom ???
Makes for easy water changes!

Might be moved there for surgery and to keep the normal area of the tank dry/also gives a little more room if the normal area is cramped!
Cause no one look those thing, we were looking if the fish go back alive well

I know this is late, but stop using ammonia blockers, they bind up the ammonia and make it nearly impossible for the bacteria to process.

The difference between fish and fish food is the size of the bigger fish's mouth.
I once had to extract corydoras from the mouth of my goldfish twice. Not fun at all

Lol being greedy! Lol
I expected the fish that ate the other fish to be much bigger. Poor fish.
