Blackberry has always had a number of mission critical features that no Android or Apple device have ever had, so it's great to see that they're modernizing the rest of their device with both touch and keyboard, webkit, better media, upgraded camera, new OS/interface, etc. while still keeping all the things that make Blackberry great. I will be first in line! I also love that he's holding it in a way that would make an iPhone4 drop it's call ;)
OKAY EVERYBODY!! TAKE NOTE!! phones are a PERSONAL device, they are dependent on a person's PERSONAL preference!! Iphone: for a person who just wants a simple phone that just works without many frills. Android: ultimate customization and performance if your a bit of a tech head. Blackberry: for ultimate productivity. Nokia: for the triditional user that just wants core functions. it all depends on the people!!
This is an outstanding inpromptu review. I think the touchscreen will make or break this. Taking on iPhone directly with AT&T is a gutsy move. I'm still looking forward to the BlackPad.
What a tremendous improvement from all previous Blackberry OS's - I would say an overall change in fundamentals for RIMM - bravo... Blackberry users always had to choose between the email functionality they were used to, and the touch screen/browser capabilities that the rest of the smartphone world was able to access. Lots of little details that were well thought out by RIMM as well, very nice... This revolutionizes the Crackberry!
i was debating on getting this phone or not, but after you said 'This may be our favourite device for a website that begins with a P and ends in hub'.... Im definitely getting this phone!
I'm with engadget when I say that this phone and all blackberry devices are behind the game. For example, I could have sworn that Palm made this device like 2 years ago, so good job!
i have this phone in white and its really great! whats good is when i bought it at the at & t store, the guy unboxed it and set up lots of cool apps for me so it was all ready to go once i left...you should get this phone if you want a new BB
I had a Bold 9000 and now I just purchased the Torch. It's kinda like an iPhone and Blackberry all in one. Great features. If I had one complaint it's just a little smaller than the Bold 9000 which is not good for folks with larger hands.
its a good phone, never had a blackberry before, great for work, emails phone calls, simple to use easy features, not the blown phone like the I phone, but for a work phone has every thing I want and more, just simple and easy to use with lots of features
@Quy3771 Really? I've been using the 9000 since around 1.5 years and I'm really happy with it. I switched from an iPhone to the Bold and I never missed anything on the iPhone! Are you using the latest software for the Blackberry? Because imo updates for the Blackberrys are really important!
@1TacticalMedic so between the 9800 vs 9780 which one would u rather? because I like the torch but I read a lot of bad things about it, so i think I will go for the 9780. what u think?
needs someones input. i'm on my third iPhone 3G S. i'm tired of it =/ should i get this phone a few weeks or... wait for the Bold 9780? or..... get the iPhone 4 in January when i'm upgrade eligible??? please help! :) thanks!
How got is the email on this? I have an old curve 8310 and emails with pictures or flash and that type of stuff does not appear. This may have have been fixed of the bold or storm models, but I just wanted to know if you can see html and flash emails in full on the torch.
Yeah, so... can you tell me what's the difference between the Blackberry torch 9800 and the 9810? I need a new phone and I want a bb but I don't know witch to buy, I prefer a torch for the big touchscren :D Help me please (:
Is it possible to download apps on to the external memory,i mean micro sd expandable memory? If not then they are still working with torch to find their way out.....
Awesome phone! Previous BlackBerry devices: 8100/8310/9000, now the 9800. Pearl was great. Curve was nasty good. Dat Bold was a monster! Dis Torch is hot! Does what I need it to do: Business. BlackBerry forever...man! (BlackBerry...for the Pro, grown and sexy!)
Like the new Torch but the processor speed at 624 Mhz pales in comparison with modern smart phones. Still like the security and enterprise compatibility offered by RIM. . It may lack some of the flash of the competition but will satisfy business users and still offer some geek appeal . As a user of Apple and with some Android familiarity the Blackberry Torch is still in my future BTW, Does this thing make and receive phone calls?
i really want a new phone and i was planning to get this phone. but after i read all the reviews of other customers i'm not so sure!? should i get it??
i have a question does this phone some kind of program like android, something i can download from the phone like games or applications? i didnt heard something like that in other reviews and i am very angry about the price here in sweden is 5600 kr almost 800 uss and they sale only to companies not to private ppl
@MPProduction91 it depends what plan you get. theres different amounts of data you get per month. each package is a different price. i would say probably $10-$30 per month. and im not sure how much the torch costs.
This looks great. Waint until you hold one in your hands before saying it is slow. This guy may not be handling it perfect but in all, it looks amazing. A real upgrade. I am glad they kept the keyborad, very important for BB users. BB users are more work oriented and iphone is more a personal, entertainment gadget. They are different. Both are great.
Looks great but also looks slow as hell, how many times did it freeze on him? Way to go BB stay behind that curve!!!!! Cant wait to get rid of my BB!!!
@T2theH nope supposedly Sprint and Verizon are getting it soon after. If they don't then you could probably get an unlocked one from Canada. Since it's releasing for Bell Telus and Rogers. But Rogers is getting it first supposedly.
I like the phone and I might get it but two things that bug me... 1) No OpenGL support does that mean no 3D games or apps at all? 2) 5 mp cam so there's no 720p HD cam recording? also noticed it loads some apps a bit slow in this video... :( i'm not happy about these things but if they can fix these things on the next bb or on this 1 then this is the best phone out.
OMG! I couldn't finish watching this video cause it reminds me of how HORRIBLE it was having the Blackberry Storm! So glad I got an iPhone and never again will I ever go back to blackberry!
To the guy who is making that review : We are smart, getting your voice all excited and all will not take our attention off from the fact that the BlackBerry Torch 9800 is no match for the iphone or the Android.
hey mate i just want to ask something, im using sprint, i have an htc evo 4g which i just lost it and i called sprint n they said that i cant change it cuz i dont have the safety plan so wtf, and well when i first open my new acc wit dem i told dem to put dah safety plan, but well i wanna know about this phone and someone is gonna sell me the BLACKBERRY BOLD 9650 unlocked, can i put it on sprint by going to them or what??

I just got my Torch a few days ago, and now that I have it figured out, I love it. I switched up from a BB Tour.
This is an outstanding inpromptu review.
I think the touchscreen will make or break this.
Taking on iPhone directly with AT&T is a gutsy move.
I'm still looking forward to the BlackPad.
i have a torch.. && its my first blkberry.. AND IM ADDICTED!!! had it for less then a month..!! BEST BLKBERRY EVER!!!
My Bold 9700 is getting old already! Good to see BB now stepping up its game and attracting i-phone users finally.
What a tremendous improvement from all previous Blackberry OS's - I would say an overall change in fundamentals for RIMM - bravo...

9:23 -- Kevin's accent is awesome here. I dunno, i'm Canadian. Great video on the phone Kev, keep up the good work!
OMG I want one!!! So glad my contracts up this month!!!
I am getting one in less than 2 weeks I am sooo excited! :D
How durable is this phone? Would it be better to just go with a bold 9700?
I had a Bold 9000 and now I just purchased the Torch. It's kinda like an iPhone and Blackberry all in one. Great features. If I had one complaint it's just a little smaller than the Bold 9000 which is not good for folks with larger hands.

niiiiiice. and they just announced the 9700 will be gettin os 6, so im happy about that
Ribbed for her pleasure. Love it. Want one soooo bad. Was going to wait til next weekend and I'm not sure I can...
BB OS6 will be so great on my Storm2. Can't wait
SO excited! Ditching my iphone today and going to get the new BB Touch Screennnn!!!!
Well..I'M sold...that thing looks awesome
I'm pretty sure that this is not the final version that will be in the shops so there most probably working to eliminate problems like the lag.
@rkgandhi I'm glad someone finally said that. Since when are you aloud to use cellphones in hospitals?
@Quy3771
Really?
I've been using the 9000 since around 1.5 years and I'm really happy with it. I switched from an iPhone to the Bold and I never missed anything on the iPhone!
Are you using the latest software for the Blackberry? Because imo updates for the Blackberrys are really important!
I'm definitely getting one.... the touchscreen/qwerty kb combo cannot be beat. I've used the iPhone and I'm stickin with blackberry.
Thank god they got rid of that ridiculous push touch screen thing that was on the storm, any news on if it will be avail in white?
SO EXCITED FOR MINE!!! AHHHHH!!
@CREDITS4CARBON is that 100% confirmed that the new OS will be availbale for the Bold 9700?
@1TacticalMedic so between the 9800 vs 9780 which one would u rather? because I like the torch but I read a lot of bad things about it, so i think I will go for the 9780. what u think?
this is the best cellphone ever made till now.
needs someones input.
i'm on my third iPhone 3G S.
i'm tired of it =/
should i get this phone a few weeks or...
wait for the Bold 9780?
or.....
get the iPhone 4 in January when i'm upgrade eligible???
please help! :)
thanks!
i have a major question! i want this soo bad, but is it like a regular touch screen, not like the storm with the touch-tap thinger. I hated that LOL.
this is what im waiting for....... bb rocks
I have the style right now, but i have an opportunity to get the torch, should i switch?
Sorry if it sounds stupid but,is it because the phone is at pre-release beta stage that's why it lags a little when he touches it or what ?
How got is the email on this? I have an old curve 8310 and emails with pictures or flash and that type of stuff does not appear. This may have have been fixed of the bold or storm models, but I just wanted to know if you can see html and flash emails in full on the torch.
@nightubble I never touched it and not achieve what I wanted. Does that suffice?
Also, costumization....something of a foreign word for the iphone.
I'm so getting that. I'm commenting from the curve right now but I have to get the torch. I really wanna know about the battery life tho ...
Looks good... Will guarantee will be more stable than an iPhone
Yeah, so... can you tell me what's the difference between the Blackberry torch 9800 and the 9810? I need a new phone and I want a bb but I don't know witch to buy, I prefer a torch for the big touchscren :D Help me please (:
Is this cellphone like blackberry storm on the screen touch like you have to press the screen inside or just a touch?
I want one!!! Waiting for it to arrive in S.A. !!
Does it have the option of converting to landscape view when the phone is tilted during web browsing?
Is it possible to download apps on to the external memory,i mean micro sd expandable memory? If not then they are still working with torch to find their way out.....

LOOKS GOODI love my BB Bold 9000.
The only thing is it keeps breaking down.
Ive had at least3 handsets in the last 15 months
@HaHaLooLoo I bet the Storm 3 will be a Torch without the sliding keyboard and surepress. It will be renamed Torch 9xxx
So when will they ditch the keyboard already? It seems to be in the way!
@MPProduction91 it depends what plan you get. theres different amounts of data you get per month. each package is a different price. i would say probably $10-$30 per month. and im not sure how much the torch costs.

@T2theH nope supposedly Sprint and Verizon are getting it soon after. If they don't then you could probably get an unlocked one from Canada. Since it's releasing for Bell Telus and Rogers. But Rogers is getting it first supposedly.

Is this still a Java OS like the previous Blackberry's ? Looks nice though!
@skydark
hey, is the touch screen sensitivity same as the Iphone ?? :D :D
Thumbs up if you now are drooling in love with the Torch. :)
BlackBerry Bold 9700 or BlackBerry Torch 9800?
what's the point on putting a touch pad on it if its touch screen?
is the blackberry 6 running on top of android?
@Yuspliff have you seen any of the other phones out lately?? lol size its NOT even close to xperia, galaxy, iphone etc.
does anyone know when this will be availiable?
