Jerry, you do a remarkable job of ignoring these haters. I don't recall any of your videos "claiming" that you were an "expert"; only that you hope it helps others. If these haters are so outstanding at this craft, I would appreciate their offering their time to show us better methods. Personally, I combed over many videos, and picked and chose small portions from several. The bottom line, while I attempt and usually succeed at a wide range of DIY projects, I would not have ventured into this repair if you and and others with your interest in helping others, did not take the time and effort to share your experiences. Again, THANK YOU!.
+JerryRigEverything +Alberto Fernandez I'll second that motion and add you actually had me laughing out loud at one point. I actually had all the gear (hotplate, wires, frames), failed miserably (dont ask me why, i fix MBP's and iphones all day long). Sold all of it and then a year later after watching your video actually banged out 4 with my hot air station and some cards. And only 1 had a burn spot. And even that one already has a home. So thank you, thank you very much.
I AM ONE OF THE FEW =) Or maybe it's not quite so terrible. It did take a real long time. It worked! I just used a few drops of 5-minute epoxy on the very edges instead of the fancy uv-glue, and everything works! The screen works fine, touch / swipe works great still. I used the 91% isopropyl alcohol - at first it felt like nothing was coming off at all, but using a guitar pick to scrape it off, and LOTS of alcohol, got it started. I thought that I damaged the LCD because the back discolored a tiny bit and pulled up a little, but when I put it all back together it was perfectly fine. Thanks for the video!
I don't have a good day for a good time with you on my way back in a statement frozen in a good one day and night and it was r a new phone is on my way to get the chance of a sudden r utmost
Nope, I just used a 2-part 5-minute epoxy from loctite, just a very very little bit on the edges of the glass =) Not quite as clean or pro looking, but it looks fine so far.

But dont stop doing this, are a lot of people in India (for name an example) that would watch and rewatch this content, that would help hundreds and thousands of people.
Well I was going to attempt to do this by myself but having watched this video I think I will just jog on and find a repair shop! God, I need one of you in my toolbox :P
Hi, thanks for posting the video! I just took the broken glass off with out even taking the screws and/or screen off, though. To me your video was helpful because you used a playing card instead of that triangle. I don't have the glue, so I had to use tape to hold it together until I get the glue. I have a working phone now, for only $5. I forgot to mention this is my second attempt on doing the glass only, I've changed plenty of screen digitizers and this glass was from the first failed attempt Thanks!!
Thank you very much for the video, it was very helpful and I was able to do the repair. I did not have a heat gun such as yours, but I was able to use my girlfriends hair dryer instead to heat it up and remove the glass. I did not have any rubbing alchol to help clean the glue off, but instead used some acetone nail polish remover. I also bought a small tube of LOCA glue and UV flashlight combo from amazon. After reassembling everything my screen now has parts of it where it is darker, random blobs of it. Was this maybe caused by not using the UV light enough, cleaning the screen with acetone (nail polish remover, not a lot either), or maybe something else that I have done? I am going to leave the flashlight on the phone overnight to hopefully fix this problem. Thanks again for the video, you rock!
8 years later, I am watching this and thinking of my shoebox full of cracked iPhone 5C, 5, 5s, 6, 6s, 7, 8 and Xr screens. Great stuff, very simple to follow. These cheap iPhones 5C were abused and at least in Europe you can't find too many good ones. I have a couple of them. Still great for nostalgics. Will definitely try it soon.
Fantastic!!!! I just dropped my IPhone 5s and shattered the glass. Thank you for your video, Jerry. This week end I'm getting it repaired following your instructions :) I have seen many other videos (never-ending - hahaha) how to repair my IPhone, but your's is the best.
Nearly made it, but separated the LCD from the backlight whilst doing the last bit, this is perfectly doable if you follow the instructions and take more time over it than I did!
Working on 5s I began removing glue from LCD which seemed much more difficult. A very small corner of a film peeled up which I learned is the polarizer. Pulling that off removes glue with it and saves a lot of hassle but needs a replacement which is available online. The LCD is shot already after the work but it might be useful mentioning this and providing a link in the description. Great vid
Abishek Kayastha You just need to make sure that it doesnt get in there. If you look in the video description, I have some LCD screen sealer, that should help keep the glue out.
I just did this yesterday and at the top it looks very bright (kinda like a you can see through and see where the glue is.) without it being on it looks perfect. not sure what I did wrong
A lot will say "just buy a complete screen with a LCD" Well there is tons out there that WILL NOT last long nor tough enough. This video is awesome thanks for sharing. I have a iPhone 5S that needs a new screen but I'm just gonna replace the hole LCD & glass. But will try to do this to my old one and have a extra one incase lol. Thanks
It looks like crap, look at the top corner of the screen, after the replacement 9:27 the glue hasnt been distributed evenly. If you want to replace your screen just get the whole LCD screen for $40 and safe yourself the hassle
That discoloration is actually glue in the backlight. So... Too much glue. But i agree. Is a much better idea to buy the whole screen. Just like i mention in the preroll text.
+JerryRigEverything No it's not, they are pressure spots on the LCD most likely due to too much glue or putting too much pressure on the LCD during the repair.
i cant understand how theres negative comments your funny man and explain well and have one of them easy to listen to voices lofl. keep up the good work.
For those who don't have steady hands and have no patience, DO NOT TRY THIS. I fucked up the digitizer while removing the glass, I wasn't gentle enough, you're better off buying everything all together
Did the replacement, took about two hours. The process worked, however we had a problem. We used both alcohol and Goo Gone (It was mentioned in the video). The Goo Gone got in the layers of the LCD screen. Left us with a foggy screen, going to replace both the LCD and digitizer now. I wonder if we could have sealed the LCD with super glue before we started the glue removal? Also had some small bubbles that we did not see at first so look very carefully before you use the UV light to set the glue. A word of advice, create a list of tools and supplies and step by step guide, that helped in the process. Overall a good tutorial thanks Jerry.
yea I would recommend testing it out on a junk phone. the only trouble I've had was placing the new screen on and not getting bobbles in the glue. after 3 trys I ended up doing a great job. I need a better uv light

Stream Alexander Cannot be bothered to get the uv glue and a heatgun. :P
+Hagge Bänke (Robobunny) use boiling water which is 100 degree C.

PC KUCHING Well, I have a heatgun now but for other reasons. Still cannot be bothered because of that special snowflake glue :V I ended up just getting a new phone from work.
it is because the guy does not know what he is doing. if you don't seal all the border of the LCD the uv glue will go inside of the LCD and you got that flaw. also he left few bubbles i explain that in my videos
Keren banget lo Bang.. Gue jadi mikir dua kali mao pasang screen ini.. Ada heat gun ada UV lighting.. Wihhh.. Tapi makasih banyak Bang. Vidio lo nambah wawasan banget. Salam dari kami di Indonesia. 🙏😊
Please post the list of items (specific to glass, heat gun, uv light, screw drivers and tape and glue that I need to purchase). I enjoyed the video and hate that I cracked my iPhone 5S glass, but love that you broke it down and made the video for people like me. Cheers.
I'm afraid as a shop runner we are going to have to get really good at these instead of relying on a steady stock of whole assemblies. Thanks for being a boss as usual, JerryRigEverything. If tomorrow is a slow day I'll definitely give this a try on some stock items and see how it goes.
Thanks for the reply and the video. I repair phones but have never wanted to try this because of all the other videos I've seen. They make it look too complicated and required too many special tools. Wish me luck ima practice on all my cracked screens I have accumulated.
Nice! Good luck man. It takes awhile to get good at it. I recommend taping the sides of the LCD to keep the glue from getting in. Ill explain more in my iPhone 6 'just the glass' video that ill post on Tuesday.
Just change the whole screen. If you try only to change glass you will get white spots, water marks and abnormal color screen. I am working at APPLE INC as a technician so that the experience i got.
LeonVIPPER It was a different procedure, they’ve replaced the whole LCD with the frame, Apple doesn’t do this “glass only”😂😂😂 Plus, on Apple screen you can’t use LOCA, as it goes between the backlight and the LCD and will leave marks (check the end of the video at the top of the screen). This method works well on Samsung LCDs tho :) Sometimes boards ... just die, believe me or not. Sometimes because of silly mistakes (not connecting the ESD), sometimes it just happens due to a factory issue (and Oooh, Apple is the king at failed boards : iphone 6/6s touch IC - specially Plus series, iPhone 7 Sound IC - factory error-they’ve recalled some devices, replaced a lot of them... and so on... ) So, don’t always blame the technicians... P.S.: a phone can suddenly “die” after hundreds of small impacts over time, and when a technician moves the board a bit, it stops working.... or a small bend, and when removing the board might break circuits...
around 40 dollars when working on a newer model.. with practice u can repair 10 phones a day. on 50 dollars total profit on average, its 500 per day. that good money. buying an entire new lcd would not get you to make much profit
I agree. But I accidentally bought glass only, so it's 40 bucks plus 60 for the new replacement LCD, so... may as well give it a shot even if I break my LCD, the new part has one with it...
Appreciate the video. Did a full screen assembly repair before, but thought just the glass would be fun. LCD was good thru tear down, though I broke the plastic frame. Bought another one. Put it back together, had a single ribbon on the display so tried to open the case again and my replacement frame broke, and wouldn't come out...somewhere in this process I must have man-handled it because now my LCD is just ribbons. What a bummer. Oh well, had fun. Thank you.
+Rachel Rupp It was worth a shot! Now you know more about how screens work, and your next attempt will be more successful. I've literally broken 100's of screens this way.
You shouldnt be showing how to do something that you dont even know how to do! You didnt remove the backlight first, which left uv glue between the LCD and backlight, which is why there are white spots all over the screen when you were testing it.
Colin Zimmermann JerryRigEverything Colin you are right. This guy sucks lol. I would never let this guy touch my phone. The LCD wasnt even centered properly, thats why the bottom left corner was messing up every time he pressed the home button. The glass wasn't properly seated on the bezel, and the backlight is pretty much trash now. LOL. I love watching noobs that think they know what they are doing. You used way too much loca btw, I could have used the same amount on 2 phones. Nice job spending 20 minutes just cleaning the glue off the LCD. Tool.
Third link is broken. This is a great tutorial. Just got an iPhone 5 from someone for free because the screen got shattered. Digitizer and lcd still work. Sounds like a good challenge for me!
+djdeanz z while this would be the easiest way. Where would the fun be in that? I like a challenge. Obviously it can be done. I've done may projects before that have been "impossible" and proven it to be possible. If this was my daily driver then yeah I would probably not be doing this. For the everyday unexperienced person, this is probably not a good idea.
I love it. Keep the premise in view...Jerry Rig, which means getting by with next to nothing. $20 seems like nothing until you have nothing then it is a lot.
excellent videos, I've watched a few of yours. Like someone else mentioned, you have a good style of explaining and showing what to do. However, seeing how delicate the entire process is, I think I"m going to get someone else to try and replace my screen lol.
I did it!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🙆 Thanks so much...it's really difficult to get the glue out without damaging the lcd..mine got defective but still works...next time I just change the whole screen...very interesting trying it out though..for just $10 is worth trying it for the love of it ;)
I got really close to doing it this way but broke my LCD right near the end but definitely try this before buying a whole new display also make sure the whole digitizer works before you put the glass on
good material. over the years ive been doing phones i still refuse to do this one. ill do the combos all day but just the glass? hell no good videos man.
Banthos Its a way hard repair. lol, we don't offer them as a repair at my shop either, this was more just for fun. I finished an iPhone 6 today... MUCH harder than the 5s. The glue is different, and takes longer to separate. I hope to have that video posted on Monday. You'll have to check it out.
this is a very ver very complicated DIY... i've fixed some of my broken phones before, and this was impossible for me... ended up breaking the whole piece. now i'm gonna have to buy the entire LCD replacement, which is totally fine. I recommend this DIY for hardcore people hehe :)
Hey thanks man!, i will try, i think i can do it, not everyone has the patience or knowledge to do all things!👍🏽👍🏽, i cAn just replace the screen but i will try to master this method, it would be cheaper!
Hello jerry! I had to try to do it with another broken screen. This time it was much easier to get the glass of(used a hairdryer because my heat gun broke on the first attempt). I think that i got into the wrong layer on the first try like in between the two polarlizer layers thats, why it was so hard to get the playcard inside the glass. I just need to buy alcohol to get the uv-glue off on the i think successful attempt.
I like the disclaimer!!! I've changed the battery by myslef!!! .. so I think I can replace the WHOLE screen.. but just the glass?? I may love the challenge and tough project.. but I need the phone 24hr..If I screw up.. It will take much more time to fix. (and money).. thank you.. you help me making a decision..
prefect video, showing exactly what I don't want to do for my daughter's phone. I'll just purchase the assembly like I've done for the wife's phone. great video. subscribed. nice ring 👍😂
thx for the video bro, sadly i ve realized that for me to fix my galaxy tab s 10.5 inch is almost impossible and funny thing i cant even find any tech guy to fix it as great as you do yours... almost zero hope hmmm
heh super mellow video. if ur fixing multiple phones per day and perfect this process it could net a significant profit over constant R&R of digitizers. it is very nice of you to share this knowledge, thank you
OK so I followed your instructions here. and i did it yay!!! not broken but I poured alcohol on my display, OOPs now its got a splotchy screen so i just thought I'd mention it for others any ideas?
OffGrid Gamers Channel, you have to take apart the backlight and clean off the multiple films careful not to break the (light transfer wafer?) LCDs usually use plexiglass, but this material is very weak inside the backlight I made the same error
I just fixed my 5s screen yesterday and had some discoloration of the top corners likely due to putting the heat gun too high, UV glue soaking into the sides or pressing too hard on the digitizer when removing the broken shards of glass. But hey I saved money so I'm happy with the final result.
+JerryRigEverything Your video was step by step and very informative thanks again. What I heard was you have to replace the backlight in order to remove the color imperfections. Is that true?
+RideWitMe1 so I'm curious you can order just a glass replacement off amazon for very cheap between 5-10$, you can repair just glass screens as a little local business and sell them with LCD for a higher price than you bought just the glass for its crazy
Hi Jerry, First off, thanks so much for showing me how to replace the screen on my iPhone!! It was so cool and fun tho remove the glass from the glue!!! I just have a few questions, how do you change the home button over to the new phone? I tried and some how screwed up. Luckily I bought a $8 home button that was so easy to install (Amazon EShine Home Button). My biggest problem was the color distortion after the UV glue dried. Is there any solution to fixing the color distortion? Or, how can I prevent color distortion for my next repair? Do I have to use a glue in between the glass and the lcd? THANKS SO MUCH! I loved the video! THANKS!!!
worked great thanks! just cracked below the home button when i was pressing the screen in unfortunately :/ the hardest part was getting the camera centered and that little tab at the end :P
Well, I *thought* this would be something I could tackle on my own, but since watching your truly entertaining tutorial, I'm going to leave this to the professionals. I'd rip all my hair out trying to do this! LOL
I have this screen protector with glue already on it. It's "HD ballistic glass," for the iPhone 5, made by Tech Armor. The LCD isn't broken, but there's a big diagonal lighting bold of shattered glass that spans the entire phone. Thus far, the small bits of glass are held in place by a standard sticky protector; it's hard to see things but, remains relatively usable. You really have to pay attention to every detail in those strange amazon categories; where you get endless pages of random looking products that apparently, are the same type of thing. My problem was that all the products looked the same, but did different things--either that, or I'm just an idiot, lol.
thanks for ur hard work .. but can i ask u something? why when we used the uv clow the colour of the screen is changed and how we fixed that if happened??

Thank you! Best, most patient, most logical, most detailed video I've ever seen...
I was going to do this. Even got the glass. Now I will not. Fuck this.
yea I would recommend testing it out on a junk phone. the only trouble I've had was placing the new screen on and not getting bobbles in the glue. after 3 trys I ended up doing a great job. I need a better uv light
Stream Alexander Cannot be bothered to get the uv glue and a heatgun. :P
+Hagge Bänke (Robobunny) use boiling water which is 100 degree C.
PC KUCHING Well, I have a heatgun now but for other reasons. Still cannot be bothered because of that special snowflake glue :V I ended up just getting a new phone from work.
already got half my phone torn apart, then i see this bullshit and now i have no way to replace the glass only.
Love your video , change my mind about this method but have watched your videos 2x. You have managed to take the boring out of this job.
I see some light spot on the LCD after you power on the phone.
it is because the guy does not know what he is doing.
if you don't seal all the border of the LCD the uv glue will go inside of the LCD and you got that flaw.
also he left few bubbles
i explain that in my videos
thanks for sharing
this guy knows what he is doing. I can barely understand you in your videos and your videos are not that good.
You are an awesome teacher & your voice is quite soothing. Thank you.
+WOThms Hey thanks! I appreciate it!

Yes
yah
Yeah
Keren banget lo Bang.. Gue jadi mikir dua kali mao pasang screen ini.. Ada heat gun ada UV lighting.. Wihhh.. Tapi makasih banyak Bang. Vidio lo nambah wawasan banget. Salam dari kami di Indonesia. 🙏😊
Damnn this looks harder then i thought!!!! FML
Please post the list of items (specific to glass, heat gun, uv light, screw drivers and tape and glue that I need to purchase). I enjoyed the video and hate that I cracked my iPhone 5S glass, but love that you broke it down and made the video for people like me. Cheers.
Damn, this is tougher than i thought.
I'm afraid as a shop runner we are going to have to get really good at these instead of relying on a steady stock of whole assemblies. Thanks for being a boss as usual, JerryRigEverything. If tomorrow is a slow day I'll definitely give this a try on some stock items and see how it goes.
Holy fuck.... Im just gonna buy the whole new assembly.
Asif.
Wow! The best idea from this is the use of a card, i actually got it done but i used tape not glue, suprised it worked well
why am i watching this in 2019 with a perfect screen on my xs?
Lukas C. Lol same :)
Nearlu same
Because jerryrig is life
Iphones are shit dont buy them dont overspend
you have a good voice worth listening to man, really enjoyed it and very informative ofcourse.
I was so bored I didn't want to fast forward
Very impressive- been looking for how to do this forever. Will try this on a test phone first just to make sure I get it right.
Lol back then when he was 50% product promoter. Now he is rich.
Very good demo. Thank you Can the glass be change while leaving the phone together?
Now i know the ways the people at apple destroyed my motherboard when replacing my iphone 5 screen
LeonVIPPER It was a different procedure, they’ve replaced the whole LCD with the frame, Apple doesn’t do this “glass only”😂😂😂
Plus, on Apple screen you can’t use LOCA, as it goes between the backlight and the LCD and will leave marks (check the end of the video at the top of the screen).
This method works well on Samsung LCDs tho :)
Sometimes boards ... just die, believe me or not.
Sometimes because of silly mistakes (not connecting the ESD), sometimes it just happens due to a factory issue (and Oooh, Apple is the king at failed boards : iphone 6/6s touch IC - specially Plus series, iPhone 7 Sound IC - factory error-they’ve recalled some devices, replaced a lot of them... and so on... )
So, don’t always blame the technicians...
P.S.: a phone can suddenly “die” after hundreds of small impacts over time, and when a technician moves the board a bit, it stops working.... or a small bend, and when removing the board might break circuits...
Great video! That card technique used to separate the LCD from the Digitizer was awesome! It was so much easier using something that thin!
This is a nightmare. It's really not worth the $20 you can potentially save.
around 40 dollars when working on a newer model..
with practice u can repair 10 phones a day. on 50 dollars total profit on average, its 500 per day. that good money. buying an entire new lcd would not get you to make much profit
Colin Zimmermann Spot on analysis.
Colin Zimmermann JerryRigEverything
Colin you are right. Tool.
Maulin Patel Feel free to upload some better videos ;-)
Maulin Patel Or you could just get the digitizer and lcd all for like 30 dollars. :D
or you could just ya know buy a case
this takes an amazing amount of patience and skill and i am going to have a go but it doesnt seem cost effective due to the time of repair
should've taken 4 min tops to do the vid. don't u know our generation has the attention span of a gnat?
That was a hard work!! But i noticed some unusual lights on the top of the screen why is that?
UFO'S dude you got aliens in dat phone...ET lives in it.
Just go buy another phone, from China for $50.
free shipping?
Low quallity screen
shitty screen, crappy battery.. not worth it
Lol a fake basically
Third link is broken. This is a great tutorial. Just got an iPhone 5 from someone for free because the screen got shattered. Digitizer and lcd still work. Sounds like a good challenge for me!
Don't just don't for just 40 bucks you can replace the whole screen which works ok instead of this crap just buy an lcd of aliexpress
+Kiedis21 Hey thanks! I appreciate it! And I agree, this is not a fun repair. I recommend going with the full screen swap instead of 'just the glass'.
Nice and clear details. What about the 5 SE, I have one with a broken glass.
I did it!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🙆 Thanks so much...it's really difficult to get the glue out without damaging the lcd..mine got defective but still works...next time I just change the whole screen...very interesting trying it out though..for just $10 is worth trying it for the love of it ;)
I got really close to doing it this way but broke my LCD right near the end
but definitely try this before buying a whole new display
also make sure the whole digitizer works before you put the glass on
Outstanding 👍🏼. Your narration and video quality are simply wonderful.
Yes, I subscribed.
+Bob Johnson Thank you! Hopefully it helped! And thank you for subscribing!
Love this guys personality....
Very well explained, don't have time for the 40min glass only videos
good material. over the years ive been doing phones i still refuse to do this one. ill do the combos all day but just the glass? hell no
good videos man.
Me before watching : I can do this simple.
Me after watching : I'm going for a complete screen instead.
this is a very ver very complicated DIY... i've fixed some of my broken phones before, and this was impossible for me... ended up breaking the whole piece. now i'm gonna have to buy the entire LCD replacement, which is totally fine.
I just need to buy alcohol to get the uv-glue off on the i think successful attempt.
great hands in managing small objects. Do you that as a service?
Great video. Pretty interesting stuff. Don't listen to all the naysayers claiming they can do it better. Cause that's not the point of the video.
I used mineral turpentine on the glue, works well, didnt seem to do any damage (did leave it on for a long period)
You should have the link for the full screen repair video in the description box for the phone users
Pretty good friend. I appreciate this video very much. I´m from Brazil. and starting working with celphones . Thankyou
good video, I replaced a galaxy note screen using the wire method, but these look miles easier cos u can get the bare lcd on the back of the glass.
thx for the video bro, sadly i ve realized that for me to fix my galaxy tab s 10.5 inch is almost impossible and funny thing i cant even find any tech guy to fix it as great as you do yours... almost zero hope hmmm
heh super mellow video. if ur fixing multiple phones per day and perfect this process it could net a significant profit over constant R&R of digitizers. it is very nice of you to share this knowledge, thank you
OK so I followed your instructions here. and i did it yay!!! not broken but I poured alcohol on my display, OOPs now its got a splotchy screen so i just thought I'd mention it for others any ideas?
OffGrid Gamers Channel, you have to take apart the backlight and clean off the multiple films careful not to break the (light transfer wafer?) LCDs usually use plexiglass, but this material is very weak inside the backlight
I made the same error
I just fixed my 5s screen yesterday and had some discoloration of the top corners likely due to putting the heat gun too high, UV glue soaking into the sides or pressing too hard on the digitizer when removing the broken shards of glass. But hey I saved money so I'm happy with the final result.
Heck ya man! That's impressive!
+JerryRigEverything Your video was step by step and very informative thanks again. What I heard was you have to replace the backlight in order to remove the color imperfections. Is that true?
Ya, ive been told that as well. Ive never removed the backlight though, (I try to avoid 'glass only' repairs in my shop.)
+RideWitMe1 so I'm curious you can order just a glass replacement off amazon for very cheap between 5-10$, you can repair just glass screens as a little local business and sell them with LCD for a higher price than you bought just the glass for its crazy
thx for uploading this. Just made my day and my iphone 5 are like new again
Hi Jerry,
First off, thanks so much for showing me how to replace the screen on my iPhone!!
Grab some popcorn lol I love this guy you make something serious really enjoyable lol
I'm going to do mine. Looks like not easy but doable, if boredom is managed!
thanks for ur hard work .. but can i ask u something? why when we used the uv clow the colour of the screen is changed and how we fixed that if happened??
Have you considered using a heating pad like the ones you use on a 3d printer?
