in March I (184cm,68kg,bodybuilder) was indeed lessoned in front of a supermarket. There was a brawl concerning a trolley with an about 40 year old woman with thick ugly specs. Since she only was 150 cm, she was an easy push and I pressed her 2 meters back and downwards
with my hands on her shoulders. Then she enclosed my right wrist, a short aching, she went aside and I tumbled to the ground on the back, and that in my full black leathers. On the ground, I realised a sprain in my right arm making it useless for further combat. The specs lady saw my surprise and stretched from right to left over my chest, snatching for my left arm poising it in an awkward and helpless position I never saw before. I was completely under shock and could no longer move none of my four limbs. I flushed and even fainted.I only remember some passers by in the audience saying "Look at the arm of that lady, look at the arm of that girl, you ever saw this before?".After some minutes,we were finally separated by the security and the specs lady said:"Guess you never exspected me to know the Aikido, hunny."Believe me,biceps arms had no chance versus an Aikido application.

I studies Aikido for a few years and coached high school wrestling for close to 20 years. There is a place for Aikido in a well rounded martial artist. The deceptiveness of it is that the attacker thinks he has complete control until he doesn't. It takes years to develop that kind of skill, but its amazing once you do. I wouldn't study this as a stand alone though. Ueshiba and his students studies other arts as well.

agreed. I used a wrist lock to escape a plum once, it really threw my sparring partner off, like he didnt know what was happening , we both laughed about it for a while. but ya, added to something it works.

These arts are probably more effective if you're grabbed round the throat than something like tae kwon do, where the kicks wouldn't work. I knew an older guy who studied judo, aikido and some hapkido and said the grappling/throwing arts were more effective in self defence than the striking arts. He did add that knowing some hand and foot strikes was an advantage in self defence, which is probably why he tried hapkido.

It always seems very easy to defend yourself when someone is not a real attacker and does not attack. Aikido builds itself as if the attackers were children trying to grab you and if you step away from them they continue to run for 3 meters in the wrong direction. A true attacker, unpredictable, violent, does not try to catch you but takes shots starting from his center and returning to his guard without going too far forward. If he then goes on, he is to shoot other similar shots. Aikido is good for meditation and spirituality on the move. In relation to real personal defense, it is instead the place of dreamers with kind souls.

Thanks for sharing your uninformed biased opinion about something you never did and only know from watching it on youtube.
its like saying Andy Warhol all he can do is paint a can of beans its not real art. Not afraid to show your blatant ignorance.
Look son, surf to Wikipedia Hiroshi Isoyama, Aikido master.
"Over a long career in the martial arts, he has been Chief of Defensive Tactics for the Japan Self Defense Force Academy, and also instructed the U.S. Army in self-defense tactics. He joined the Air Self-Defense Forces in 1958 and was sent to Chitose. His first students were members of the American military police and eventually included members of his own country's forces.[4]"
This is just an example. Many, MANY aikido instructors have given aikido training to profesionals.
You are confused. You think mma is real fighting. You are right there, aikido 9n the "octagon" would loose against mma. but we dont train "competetive sports fights". we train for real conflicts in daily life.
About mma. Any beginner wrestler with 6 month training will beat any mma "fighter". Also a knife, a hammer, a finger in your eye or yr throat, itll finish any "pro mma fighter" in seconds.
Nah, bro, mma and stuff like that, its sport. Anyday Aikido for me, bro, its the real stuff.

    • @JustMe-vz3wd
      @JustMe-vz3wd 2 года назад +2

and bro, why do you assume an aikidoka would just stand there until the attacker takes a swing at you. We would keep our distance, our position, and practice in avoiding punches and grabbing that moment as an oportunity to get you instantly.
Avoiding punches is nothing special, everybody does it, so why do you assume we aikidokas just stand there like sheep waiting to be punched?
Uniformed, bro. Totally. Go troll and hate somewhere else.

It is always amusing to read the inevitable critics who do not understand that this is a demonstration of techniques and not a real fight. Of course, each of these techniques can also be executed much faster, with a corresponding impact on the attacker. Only trained persons can survive such an induced fall on hard ground without serious injuries such as broken ribs, dislocated joints or the like.
These techniques are particularly helpful for women who are touched very often with physical contact. just don't get under the illusion that it's possible without years of disciplined training.

Karin Leder the same is apply to ALL so-called martial arts or self-defend.....because in a REAL fight you don’t plan and/or think how to counter the strike because you don’t know how the opponent will strike you. you react instinctively....so if you train enough, which is never, you should be able to instinctively make a counter strike....but that is not going to happen to the typical keyboard warriors and or people going to Mc dojo. the only way to become a decent fighter is to fight all the time which not possible unless you are living in da hood....

If I jostled against her in an aggressive manner she, guess she is Turk, Iranian or even Afghan, would evade me until getting hold of one of my joints. Then she would lead me and my aggressiveness to submission on floor.

Great promotional video. Interesting comments though from those who think Aikido can not be used effectively 'on the streets'. I beg to differ. Real success in martial arts does not come from fighting and beating every tom, dick, and harry. Real accomplishment comes from not having to fight. (exceptions are always there when certain individuals want to prove something or you do end up in a situation you can not avoid for sure!)

I wouldn’t say that none of this actually works. I’d say that there are principles at work here that are valuable but one of them I don’t share at all. To me it seems that a practitioner assumes that they are so good that they choose to not harm an attacker! I have never felt that way. In fact, you never know what someone’s capabilities, nor their true intention! So while taking someone’s balance can occupy their “turn” with returning to balance, I would choose to damage them as quickly as possible to improve my chances of surviving the encounter.

Yes they do work. If you do it hard way every technique breaking bones wrists and your neck. It all depends how much power and how nasty you won't to be. What they showing here, it's way of training it, and way of being good training partner where both sides doesn't harm each other, so they can continue training without injuries. If you don't get that then maybe you need more training and more experience in martial arts.

I don't understand why you guys keep comparing aikido with MMA, which stands for Mixed(!!!) Martial Arts, in the first place. Is boxing effective against MMA? Is BJJ effective against MMA? Wrestling? Why wouldn't Mayweather want to fight in octagon? Hmmm.... But you can't say Mayweather is not effective, can you? How do you define effectiveness? 1v1 fist fight victory? Effective how? For what? I would say that Navy Seal army fighting style is way more effective than MMA. MMA fighter would get kicked in the balls and then get his neck twisted. That's it. 20 second fight. So what? Define effectiveness. Effective to win? to kill? against one opponent? multiple opponents? It's super subjective stuff.
Now to Aikido. Aikido was developed as a martial art against Katana(sword) and Jo(staff). So imagine you're in a samurai fight and dropped your katana sword. None of the martial arts help you defend against the sword attack. Boxing? MMA? no. Judo and karate certainly won't as well. Aikido works only against long trajectory attacks. Like a diagonal or frontal slashes and frontal thrusts. It also perfectly works if some untrained drunk idiot grabs a bottle and tries to hit your head with it. If you are a boxer you would also certainly win, but the point is you would probably kill the guy, which happened multiple times and then you'll get to jail. Aikido is developed to disarm the guy, not to kill him.
And that's it. It's not a 1v1 fist fight martial art, is it? It's absolutely ineffective against short quick attacks like punches, jabs or short knife attacks. Obviously, totally ineffective in octagon lol. But it was never supposed to be effective there.
    .
Aikido is a martial arts designed for a specific reason. Do you criticize Kendo too? Is Kendo effective against an MMA fighter? No, right? because you would say that's completely different thing and different rules. I would argue that 7th dan Kendo guy with a sharp sword will slice a very good MMA fighter in several pieces in a matter of seconds. Kendo is also officially a martial art btw. So using your logic it has to be super effective.

This would have been exactly my comment until 8 months ago.But then in March I (184cm,68kg,bodybuilder) was indeed lessoned in front of a supermarket.
I flushed and even fainted.I only remember some passers by in the audience saying "Look at the arm of that lady, look at the arm of that girl, you ever saw this before?".After some minutes,we were finally separated by the security and the specs lady said:"Guess you never exspected me to know the Aikido, hunny."Believe me,Oksana, your biceps arms have no chance versus an Aikido application.
