Tremendous cover of one of my favorite metal bands I grew up as as kid. Very unique arrangement that emphasizes the words "without you" as the centerpiece of the song vs "alone again." More like a romantic breakup as opposed to say a nomadic like existence that Don's song symbolizes to me anyway. Beautifully done Karly! There are a lot of good things about this cover, but you missed the one thing that makes this song so powerful. For starters, the performance was stellar, great vocals and I can hear the doubling and harmonies. So great job there, very impressive. I understand you want to your own twist on the song, and you did, with some interesting ideas. In my opinion, and I don't mean this to hurt you, but the one thing you missed was that you disconnected the passion and emotion behind Don's vocals and timing. Don has the ability to be very passionate and bring emotion to his performance while being able to scale that up and down when needed. So for example, when Don sings the end of the chorus - I'm alone again (break) without you. The way he sings that speaks paragraphs, you can connect with him and feel the emotion behind it. The only reason why I bring this up, is that most singers miss this when they do covers. I'm only telling you because I think you can do something with this advice, nobody else. Otherwise, you did a fantastic job.
Well, this is a free world, i would love to hear this with less sound effects for starter, it sounds good you know, all the other comments have already establish that, but i would still say that the original song has a totaly different strong emotional intent than you're version of the song, did not like you're thought. i like you're voice and i respect you're work here, keep going! :)
These reverbs and vocal effects are of very common use when covering a song *without* following the same notes. Since our ears are used to the canon notes, it'll sound strange (at least at first) and the effects help to mask the new notes into fitting the standard background music. Lacuna Coil did the same to cover Madonna's *Live to Tell* and many others have done it.
I feel like the notes you chose at the end of phrases and during the chorus slightly take away from the 'dark' feeling of the song but other than that it sounds good! Especially that scream before the solo!
I've seen Dokken several times in concert. it would be in the best interest of Don and the boys to invite you to sing this as a duo sometime. 😁 Another Splendid effort on your part. 👍
