Great interview Mark! Appreciate your candor and willingness to be open and honest with Igor. I personally think the gearbox method is the right fix so I'm very optimistic the cogging will soon be a thing of the past for people.
Thank you for your channel Mark. I have had my DOF P3 for 1 year now and I can't even explain how much I love it! It is the ONLY thing in FS that I have never had trouble with. MSFS sometimes has it's crashing problems and my Varjo glasses every once in a while, but not that faithful DOF. I can't wait to see the improvements in the future and at some point I will probably purchase a second DOF for Helo flying. I'm to lazy to change out the controllers.
Well spoken Igor…. greetings from Ottawa. I’ve owned my H6 for years now and only do flight simulation. Looking forward to your progress in solving these issues. Thank You Mark.
Thanks Mark. You hit the nail right on the head with the two most important questions: The cogging problem and the lack of diplomacy of DOF customer services. Thanks Igor for dealing with these issues.
Nice video, thanks for that. Its good to see a forward-thinking dev team at work. I have an H6 on order, can't wait for it. As regards the cogging effect on slow motion, I believe they are using brushed DC motors? Maybe a move to AC servos would benefit here; they have full torque down to zero RPM, and are very smooth, I run CNC machinery with these and they are very fast too, just a thought.
Thanks Mark for all the efforts you do another great video and great interview I am actually writing my comment while sitting in my H3 DOF Reality The only comment I will say is that the seat I paid for big price plus customs is small for me I am 200lbs and I feel my hips are slammed in the seat I have to raise my self with three cochins to be able to use it. I wish they explained which seat fits which size I am going to buy another seat not from them but until I recover the cost as customs and shipping were huge hit . I communicated with their customer services over 10 times but never the size of the seat was discussed which should be a priority. Cheers
Do you understand that if the stepping issue is solved with a gearbox that would only apply to new products or that it can be retrofitted to existing models?
I was on board to buy last summer, almost bought the h6, I just check their site, the h6 is now $7400.... wth, doubled in price in recent years, so I saved up, for nothing, I'm chasing... inflation? I'm bummed, I e been waiting for a stepping fix before I buy, however I may never catch up to the h6 increases. Was gonna go to fsexpo just to try the new gearbox. I'll just standby and hear from this channel. @op you should do a video review at the expo this week.
Thanks for the great video. I finally ordered one on Monday as well, after rewatching your 100 day experience video before I push the button. However, regarding their support, it’s pretty pretty fast when I asked the question last week about mounting possibilities for a rhino for feedback stick and also to my follow-up questions but I haven’t got any response for my question regarding my order since Monday, which got me a little bit worried or confused. Seeing this video at least reassured me that they are still around and kicking so that’s good.
Update, I did got a response from the support yesterday, very shortly after resend the request. Probably my initial query was sent through a wrong channel by replying directly to the order confirmation email.
Thanks Mark, I always enjoy your content. My request is not technical but financial. I was thinking that it great if DOF had some kind of program that would enable customer to purchase a rig and pay in instalments.
I am planning to buy three H6 but per this interview looks like its better they finish the improvements and wait for your vídeo reviewing the improvements. Im Correct?
Another great video Mark. I'm wondering what is going to be the trade off of gearing the motor to run faster. I'm guessing its going to create/generate more heat, and possibly pull more power. It may also reduce the absolute range of acceleration, at the upper limit. Hoping Igor looks at this thread.
Question for Igor: After you have resolved the stepping issue this summer, would there be a way for those who have recently purchased the H3 to get the fix in the mail or would it be advisable to wait until the fix is included in the purchase price? Or, will the fix be an add-on/upgrade that costs more than the H3 itself?
hi mark , see you in vegas .i am following you for few years now ( close to 500 hours on hp g2 ) , meta quest 3 new in the box not install yet ... I believe my last major upgrade will be motion platform ...
Looking for motion that will do flying and driving well with fast and slow movements. I do hope whatever fix they come up with will work well for those into all aspects of different sims and not a choice between gearing that suits flying and gearing that suits driving.
Thanks for this Mark. This was fantastic. Can I ask about your set up? What about the up-and-down motion of these units is that possible, or is there an upgrade that you can add that?

@@SimHangerFS hi again Mark, can you please elaborate a little on what mod you needed to do? Hi Mark, My goal is to purchase a flight sim to maintain my flying skills between my flights in a real single engine aircraft. The practical choice seems to be between an NLR V3 platform/Flight Simulator Pro combo ($4597 total) or a DOF Reality H-3 with a Sparco seat ($3319total). I decided to buy a H3 on your recommendation. Wow Dof reality how bad are there customer service? Bearing missing from H3 install kit. Adam's reply from customer support was a very unhelpful it should be in the bag. Next the product key code was not recognised. Adams answer (eventually) have you tried the product key code. Of course I have, does he think I'm some sort of moron. So now I have a 3.5k ornament which does nothing, still waiting for a resolution. Very bad company to deal with when things go wrong.
They very much need a warehouse in North America. I went to order a H3, but the shipping to the US (Colorado) was around $650. That was unfortunately a deal breaker for me.
Man, that looks awesome. I wish i were an ophthalmologist so i could just tell my wife it is a new (tax-deductible) chair for patients. Or maybe i could call it a weight/fitness machine and just hang a few barbells on it to camouflage its true purpose. Sucks.
I just watched a video yesterday ruclips.net/video/pfTdJD2OakA/видео.html&t that explains the complexity of the physics involved in tricking the brain with a flight motion sim. Maybe for small movements, they should be filtering them out.
I'm sorry, but this is a much bigger issue than you let on. Regardless of motion, the stepping very noticeable. To the point where this is just how the platform moves. I have spent time emailing DOF, and spent time with SRS software support. I have the H2, and it comes with the motor assembly built. It's so bad that, I would tell people not to buy. The platform, just shakes... not moves.
Sorry to hear that, your experience seems very different to mine. Make sure you have the latest DOF Tools update and test using default profile. Maybe one of your motors is defective?
Go for another brand folks. DOFReality suck bigtime when it comes to customer relations and support. Went for the H6, two weeks later they dropped the price on the P6 without leaving any notification on this. Worst buy ever!
After making 3 months of comparison of design features, characteristics and cost effectiveness ratios of all major motion platform trends, I conclude that DOF reality is the worst example. Very noisy, difficult to stabilize and balance, not secure because no brakes except perhaps if you invest in new options, very limited motion ranges by design, very inaccurate for very small movements and finally very poor cost effectiveness ratio. If you add that it is coupled to SRS software that necessitate installing a physical witmotion sensor but compensates only 2 directions when used in VR (motion compensation is mandatory in VR)…I however admit that their marketing is well done, particularly through influencers. So dear Mark, I’m very surprised of your position, please try a real motion platform based on mechanical actuators like a steward type design and you would surely revise you opinion….
