Prince loved the Cocteau Twins. He said although he couldn't understand a word Elizabeth Frasier was singing, the the music as a whole put him in a hypnotic, dreamlike state.
Well, yeah! Hard to feel otherwise. :-)
@@toddtrimble2555 I heard that.
Love me some ethereal music.
Ravi Shankar and Shakti w/ John McLaughlin get it done also.
@@peteywheatstraws4909 you were able to mention Prince, Cocteau Twins, Ravi and Shakti all in one post, impeccable taste in music! Kudos to you! Love me some ethereal music too, regardless of the genre
@@leandrosep6032 Amen to that, my brother.
wooooow!
Just heard this on a Netflix tv show, "One Day" and realized I knew this song. That was a flashback of the best kind. Hopefully a new generation will hear and appreciate this song. Listening in 2024.
Me pasó exactamente lo mismo ❤
Me too but on Netflix and when I used Alexa to locate the name it kept referring to Modern English lol. Were 80s songs that similar??? lol Shazaam nailed.
@@bestmemorylossmethod7010 Right! Yes, it was Netflix.
Rewatching One Day and checking out the music I missed out on!
@@markdaniels8167 It's a great soundtrack!
My only regret with this song is that I will never again experience hearing it for the first time. It was truly world shattering to me.
The Unrest Cure - uuugh! I totally understand what you just said!!
The Unrest Cure same!! I was just thinking that while watching/listening. This singular moment in music turned me on to alternative rock in the late 8o’s. Changed my life.
I went through my loft a couple of years ago and found my old singles. This was with them. I played it to my kids on my daughter's record player and they didn't have a clue. Looked at me like I was mad
Have you listened to the excellent b-side to this called Watchlar? A most potent track for the ears.
landon emory - on my playlist, amongst other gems!!
Elizabeth Fraser has one of those rare voices that will make you cry because of how beautiful it is.
i do so agree !
so very true, she gets me every time.
So true! Most tan a pretty voice! Its a Daydream...
Indeed.
She is underrated whatever you will say guys!!!Till now and forever!!!Greetings from Russia to all fans!!!;-)))

@@777pusher do yourself a MASSIVE favour, go out and get their last 3 albums, maybe don't listen to them all at once though ( a few weeks apart should do it). You will thank me for it, they made the beautiful of all modern music.

Sorry for your loss. I went through exactly the same 12 years ago. You will survive but there will be many more tears as with me.Hang on to those memories. Stay strong.
Discovered this gem via Netflix's One Day. LWHAT A GIFT- LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Better late than never.

Ending your comment with "better late than never" after mentioning one day was cruel and ironic 😅😅
One of the most beautiful voices in the history of music.
Um no
@@zechariyahgodschild7258 Nicely argued. :D Let's not.
By far...
Good voice, yes, but more importantly, it's the vocal delivery that makes it.
@@zechariyahgodschild7258 he said no 😂😂😂
This was one of my brothers favorite songs. When I play it I can almost feel him here.
Liz Fraser is the proof that there is supernatural existence.
Yes, but I'm going to go with preternatural.
She is so important to so many people... it's like a pure understanding when you find someone who knows the Cocteau Twins
I'm cocteau twins's fan in south korea from early 2000's. I was had heavenly feeling always during listening their songs
Does anyone else feel more confidence in themselves after listening to this? I have no idea what Elizabeth Fraser is singing about in this song, but her delivery is so moving. I could listen to this song on a daily basis and never grow tired of it. It's that timeless and beautiful!
+Devin Grant Here are the lyrics:
I'm seemin' to be a little alive
I'm happy again, caught, caught in time
Expose the daughter of yourself well
Me, I think that you're in her heart
You're the match of Jerico
That will burn this whole madhouse down
And I'll throw open like the wall not safe
More like a love that's a bottle of exquisite stuff, yes
You, yourself, and your father
Don't know, so part in your own ways
You're really both bone setters
Thank you for mending me babies
You're the match of Jerico
That will burn this whole madhouse down
And I'll throw open like a wall not safe
You will seem more like being that same bottle of exquisite stuff
Yes, you are the match of Jerico
That will burn this whole madhouse down
And I'll throw open like the wall not safe
You, yourself, and your father don't know
So part in your own ways
You're really both bone setters
Thank you for mending me babies
+Garth H ... Fantastic !!!
+DanieL Plainsong Just remember those are not the actual lyrics; they were never published. That's one person's transcription of what they hear. Some of it sounds right, but some is clearly wrong. Like "part" should be "but." And "wall not" is more likely "walnut" believe it or not.
+Delius Lyndon Yes I agree ...
spot on. I feel like just wanna just dance to this while conquering the world
I always like doing Cocteau Twins songs at Karaoke.
Victorian Dorian Lol!
Lovely, which one do you sing?
I'd like to see Liz F sing Cher's If I Could Turn Back Time at Karaoke
I don't think other people would like you doing CT - even for professional singers, it's incredibly difficult.

Nearly 30 years on, I'm still making up lyrics in my head. Cocteau Twins were so unique. Love them.
You're a macho cherry coke that will burn this old madhouse down! Lol! So wrong I know!!!

Comments include a snarky inference on education level AND a Miriam-Webster schooling? Nice.🙄
Why have I only found this band today after 43 years on this planet. Blown away
It's never too late! Cocteau Twins are timeless. You have lots of adventure in front of you! Trying to understand lyrics when sometimes they aren't even real words. The band is fun to listen to while driving or cleaning or zoning or making love or sleeping!!! I am so happy for you !
Oh you are about to fall down a deep and beautiful rabbit hole. In the northern hemisphere, we’re heading into peak Blue Bell Knoll season. Victorialand time happens right after the holidays. But seriously, any season works for any of their music.
Better now than never! Imagine living your whole life never having heard Elizabeth Frasier sing? I don't want to live in that world...
They have been my fav for 35yrs. They are the very first search I did on the world wide web in 1997 lol. 2024 still my fav. You will be pleasantly surprised at how unique they are. Lorelie was a popular one they’d play at alternative dance clubs. The whole Heaven or Las Vegas album is good
Elizabeth Fraser just may be an angelic being in human skin

Completely unique voice and vocal style, it's like speaking in tongues. Her first child had been born shortly before they recorded the album (the father being the guitar player, Robin Guthrie) and the sense of motherly bliss is all over this beautiful song and video, even in her posture I think... :)
I feel sorry for anyone who hasn't experienced Cocteau Twins. Magical, beautiful music. And Liz's voice is heaven sent. Amazing.
But that’s the fairness of life my fellow Cocteau twin
I just found them tonight and I am obsessed already! ❤
Cocteau Twins it's music from another planet
One of the most opitimistic(and full of life)songs I've ever heard.
Motherly bliss, it is overflowing with the joy of having a child. :)
dude Liz Fraser is one of the most underrated vocalists today. Her singing style and skill is unmatched and more people owe her credit
maybe she is the match of Jericho
I was 15 when i bought this album and it was the most amazing thing i'd ever heard. Now 32 years later, i still get the same feelings listening to it as i did when i was 15. Their music is just timeless.

COCTEAU TWINS MAKE HEAVENLY EARTHLY MUSIC.... COMING FROM A BLACK DUDE JUST KEEPING IT REAL,, LOVE THESE GUYS
dope!
Keeping quality music real? That’s a good plan!! Race matters not!
Blacks don't all have to like the same thing. Glad u go ur own way.❤
You must be american, then. Only people of a society so protrusively racist would think to mention ethnicity, in the first place.
@@cl8804 America isn't a racist country. Your ignornace is just astounding😂. All races and nations have their share of bad history, but it in no way defines us as a nation...not then or now...unless u mean the Democrats who love identity politics (they are the racists). And you know u understand what he means too is what's so cringey. It's obvious that musical taste isn't directly influenced by ur ethnicity but to deny that most black people don't listen to music like this (because oof cultural influences) is just obnoxiously self righteous. The lengths u must go through to prove to urself and everyone around you of how woke u are 😂😂😂 i can't even begin to imagine. Also, what sense does it make to point out racism when the guy himself is black?
Nothing else like Cocteau Twins. Lifetime listener, lifetime fan. x
This is my go-to song whenever I feel like I need a boost. This song gives you that warm hug and the reassurance that things will get better. Mentally I am here.
This is my go-to song whenever I feel like I need a cherry cola.
Just a little Twins trivia: they were originally going to call this song "Exquizitstuhfaze" after one of the lyrics in the song but they agreed that it didn't make any sense and wasn't made up of real words so they changed the title to "Ice Blink Luck" which they agreed didn't make any sense but was made up of real words. Then they did some massive bong hits
"Ice Blink Luck", it just works, glad they went with it...

Welcome to the Club, mate! :)
Johnny Ace Bluebell knoll, bluebell knoll, bluebell knoll!!! And Garlands - the first and ANGRIEST albumn, especially mussete and drums.
I knew this album in 1992 from my roomate at the time and It took me some years to really appreciate how good Heaven or Las Vegas was. I was mostly a metal head at the time.
They started very dark and gothic in 1982 (Garlands / Head Over Heels) , transitioned in 1984 (Treasure - has both dark and dreamy - see "Pandora" ., then became ambient and dreamy (Victorialand / The Moon and the Melodies) - then found their identity with the last four albums I think (Blue Bell Knoll / Heaven or Las Vegas / Four Calendar Cafe / Milk and Kisses). It's almost like they started with severely dark music to severley light and dreamy music, to a balance at the end before they called it quits. My favorite albums are Treasure and Milk and Kisses. Also look up the singles. There are a lot! (Spangle Maker, Pearly Dew Drops, An Elan, Dials, Love's Easy Tears, etc.)
Yes their music and instrumentation is exceptional and moving.
Got a wonderful reminder of this outstanding music watching One Day on Netflix. Elizabeth Frazer cuts through the Cocktoe Twins wall of sound. Genius 😘
Such a fascinating band. I will never fully be able to articulate what this music makes me feel.
Exactly
It’s an otherworldly emotion, isn’t it?
And she will never articulate her words because we don't even know what she is saying 😂

Blue Bell Knoll for me. Blew my mind
This song is everything
This song reminds me of my first apt with friends in 1992.. it played a lot.
The energy, the love, the beauty. This song is life
yes, this song is life
This song feels simultaneously like the absolute essence of the feeling of true love, and the realisation that we are all temporary, mortal beings, and that we all, one day, return to the Earth. It is beautiful.
It was a ritual for me an my gf to listen to CT every year driving to Newquay for our jollies.
Only seen them live once at Wolves Civic. So glad I did.
They were bostin!
this reminds me of summer, just in the sun, being in love and living life to the fullest
I am 72 I AGREE WITH ALL THE COMMENTS ABOUT Cocteau twins pity you can't see them live now
I remember listening to this song back in the 90s and then forgot about it. About a year ago I heard it in the pub and re-fell in love with it - maybe even more so than the first time. I spent the next year with the song in my head but I just could not rememeber the artist or title. I spent ages trying google what I could make out of the lyrics (mostly cherry cola) but drew a blank. Then today it pinged up on my apple music station! Result!!! Listened about 10 times. Cocteau Twins - wow - just had no idea it was them. Lovely song.
There is no one like Cocteau Twins!
This might be my favorite song of all time
I just love to see Liz's self confidence so evident and on display at this stage in the game
Wonderful Elizabeth Fraser has a marvelous voice
Used to listen to this album stoned out of my mind after an evening with my best friend, closer to me than my wife of 30 years.
Layers of beauty. Amazing.
Tintin!
Yea the guitar player said that he layered things in the music because he was always insecure about the sound > wether it was good or not
Only the Cocteau Twins could make a song this beautiful!!!
Thank you for mending me... Elizabeth, Robin, and Simon.
I listened to a lot of music in the 80s and 90s, but somehow missed the Cocteau Twins. But so glad I have discovered them in 2023 - their music is just beautiful.
Liz's voice is so full of passion and emotion and she just floats on the waves of Robin's guitar and Simon's bass. Enchanting!
This song has a perfect bass line.
I once read an academic essay on the Cocteau Twins that argued, convincingly, that their music is all about being born and giving birth. There is something primal about the emotions here.
Well at least that's nicer than the other two commonplace theories. (A) that Cocteau Twins music is predominantly "about" omens of death and especially of the extinction of the human race. Or, and for various reasons this makes a lot of sense to me, (B) that the Cocteau Twins music is predominantly "about" post-traumatic stress disorder, self-loathing, and fear of (the consequences of) direct communication.
Carl Horowitz Considering that a lot of this album was written and recorded right around when Elizabeth and Robin had their child, I think your theory is pretty correct.
This album, maybe?🤔
Blue Bell Knoll, no. 4 Calendar Cafe, no.
The lyrics on all these songs are total mumbo jumbo so I doubt that. What draws everyone is the power of her ability to sing combined with the harmony of the music. Sometimes she doesn't even use words but makes sounds that seem to be words. Again, that's not to infer any kind of meaning but more a creative expression of emotion.
@@damienholland8103 ...Yes, and that's why it "works'' so beautifully ... !
