This is the antithesis to modern pop music videos. Modern pop is polished, auto tuned with "perfect" people. Here there are ordinary people who play and dance with pure passion. The joy and excitement shines right through.
I can almost smell the corn dogs, candyfloss, fresh mown grass, oil and grease. I can almost see three generations polishing a tractor the same as great grandpappy is sitting on, smiling proudly, in the sepia photo in the family album. And I can almost see baskets covered in gingham overflowing with baking from great grandma's stained, yellowing, fiercely guarded, handwritten recipe book
All these years later, this is still one of my favorite songs. Maybe it's the winning smile, maybe it's the wonderful alto voice, maybe it's the sheer joy baked into the song. Regardless, it makes me happy.
Any girl who can pick a banjo like that, play the fiddle solo, and drive a tractor is just fine in my book. What a fun video and song! I'll send it to my brother, too.

I absolutely loved the last outtake, where the people are dancing and Mary is playing and singing with nat sound. You won't find too many artists willing to mingle and perform for fun with the average folk.
As anyone who has ever met her at one of her shows can attest, the real and friendly and approachable Mary you see in this video is who she really is. My daughter and I have a picture with her and she gave my daughter some musical advice, too :)

I live in a small town, and believe it or not, they have a tractor show! things have changed though, now the tractors are hugh, and cost 700,000 bucks or more! Mean Mary shure can play a ''MEAN" banjo"! tHIS WAS ALOT OF FUN TO WATCH!
David I'm a nice guy and usually don't say anything, but the intro tractor is a ford 9 n, you can see the ford emblem on the front of the cowl and also on the fender. If you talking about the one that she is driving. I have this same tractor or at least the ones she was driving.. acquired it from my grandpa.. tons of memories.
