nori seaweed sheets in a blender is a great way to make tofu more fish/ ocean like , also vegan thai fish sauce both add umami flavours , i would also freeze the tofu first then defrost it then repeat this process press the water out as much as possible then rip up the tofu in small pieces put half the tofu in the blender and pulse then add the other bits that are torn into pieces crab meat like for a bit of texture add into the mix then shape the cakes but before frying i would definitely put them in the fridge for an hour or so and because crabmeat is sweet personally i would add maybe a teaspoon of agave to the mix too or something similar to play off against the salt element- but this video has got me thinking so thanks veggie rose , good job 👍 xx

I grew up in Tampa with deviled crabs and they use a whole lot of bread in them, like a loaf of bread per can of crab. wonder if that helps hold them together.
lol, i had some grandmothers teach me how to cook, and the italians would use a lot of bread in meatloaf and meatballs, i think its coming from a place where meat is a luxury. They also used bechamel instead of ricotta in lasagna, which i think just makes it more calories, lol. I never really thought about it but deviled crabs would be easy to vegan, its all vegan but the crab.

Just two suggestions.....to make them bind, have you thought about using ground flax, or Whole chia seeds? And, instead of letting them sit fir five minutes to firm up, why not get all of the ingredients together, but put them in the fridge while the sauce ingredients are mixed together? If you let the crab cakes sit after they're cooked, they cool, and who wants a cool crab cake? Just a thought.
I totally agree! I have become a little more vegan food savvy since this recipe...I use a ground flax seeds now..but not always either just when I want to impress a non vegan😂😂 thanks for the tip😉
hello there veggie rose , please do not think i am being rude but where is the vegan crab element flavour or sea umami taste🤔.... im really not being rude did i miss something? ... i was expecting a faux crab tasting dish i cant see how this would taste of crab or the sea 🌊... i was expecting some seaweed nori a splash of vegan thai style fish sauce to give it that oceanic umami essence ..... - did i miss something from the recipe? .... i will watch it again 👍 x
TFS....I made 'crab-less' cakes the other day and used hearts of palm....stellar! I made 'tuna-less fish' and used chickpeas....the taste was great, the texture...no bueno.....hearts of palm are gonna be my go to....texture is perfecto....IMHO....the Nouri sheets and old bay is what's up.
I like delicious with that's why I'm not a vegan ! maybe I'm jaded I went to a vegan restaurant once and everything was terrible so I'm hoping You'll enlighten me

Non vegans who have tried it say its amazing!!💕 ..and ofcourse I'm bias but it is delicious if I mist say so myself. I don't get why so many vegan restaurant foods are not good..I just don't get it! Delicious flavor is all you need to make food great..not meat or milk lol

There's a lot of already "accidentally" vegan food out there, many cultures have a lot of vegan built in, curries, rice bowls, etc. I think its more an American thing than, food is kind of bland all the way around, so you use meat and dairy to add something to really bland food. My first vegetarian cookbook was awful, like broccoli with cheese sauce, which is so typical. When its boring add cheese.
