Mahalaya, signifies the termination of Pitri Paksha and the beginning of Devi Paksha, thus ushering in the season of religious festivals. It is said that Devi Durga begins her journey from her husband's abode in Kailash to her paternal home on this day. The glory of Durga is known from the ancient treatise Durga Saptasati or the Chandi. It describes the incarnation of Devi Durga by the unification process of all the power of the Gods and her emergence as Mahisasuramardini in the eventual fight with Mahisasura. Recitation of these slokas is known as Chandi Path and has been recited and known to combat every kind of enmity and adversity, from ages forgotten.
Since the early 1930s, homes in Bengal reverberate with the immortal verses from Chandi Kabya in the recorded voice of late Birendra Krishna Bhadra.
It is a beautiful audio montage of recitation in the enthralling voice of Birendra Krishna Bhadra, Bengali devotional songs with narration scripted by Bani Kumar, classical music composed by Pankaj Kumar Mullick and a dash of acoustic melodrama.

HIS TONE,EXPRESSIONS ARE UNBEATABLE TILL DATE.I am 62 years of age and stay in NORTHERN INDIA and watch MAHALAYA every year.Previously this was broadcasted by AIR,and at times the signal used to be faint,we had to crane our necks close to the radio to hear the same.It was a memorable experience.

Every individual have right to express their thoughts about songs, dance and stotro path of total play. Hope every individual especially Indians must respect our sanskrit language which is still regarded in the world. Prayer in sanskrit may or may not be fully understandable by all Indians but negative comment is insult to sanskrit language and to our country. Please hear in clear mind keeping the room dark at least the part of the prayer and songs sung in sanskrit in early morning at 4 am. Hope you your mind will be enlightened and you you will feel some difference because this prayer is for Goddess Durga.

great recitation of Virendra Krishna Vadra, also nice compilation of a mixed bongali and sanskrit slokas , songs made it very enjoyable. However does it occur to anyone that instead of wasting crores of Rupees on pandals and statue just for 5 days which is insane, allocate half of the expense for poors and serve them during the whole year.
