    Very humid this morning. I was dripping after my morning walk up to the fruit market. Long avocado and a bunch of bananas for $1. I livid in Kampot for 3 years and the air quality is definitely better. I agree, number 1 is the people. Keep well

    Good leadership leads to prosperity and happiness but poor leadership leads to suffering and death as the country has come a long way since its civil war was officially ended in 1998. I had to leave country in 1979 after living through Pol Pot killing madness from 1975 to 1979. Our family was sent from Phom Penh to work in the rice fields and to dig cannals . My first return trip from Minnesota was back in 1995 when the country was officially open up to the world and tried to locate my surving family members from horrific genocide there. The country was still in ruins and family members were separated. Luckily I found my sole surviving sister and the rest of 11 of them did not make it. Sharing is caring as life is short to do the things we don't love doing. Peace🎉

    I like your take on things. I think that laid back, zen outlook is necessary in Cambodia. It's either that or be miserable, and there's no point being miserable. I think getting away from the media and societal angst in America is really refreshing, and once you adjust to how things are in Siem Reap, the days are filled with more smiles and laughter.

      Cambodia has one of the most corrupt forms of government. Land is being siezed and used to enrich those in power. As long as that continues, there will be no middle class. Human rights abuses are rampant. As long as you're willing to look the other way on these issues and know you're living there because it's cheap, you'll be fine.

    • @htee7426
      @htee7426 3 месяца назад +2

      Changed times. Granted there’s not universal help for poor people and many appear to fall through the net but some qualify for a “Poor Card” . I don’t know the full criteria but I’ve seen them show that and get free hospital care at the Provincial hospital .
      There is now the National Social Security Fund which is for employees and the self-employed (it should be but some employers are still avoiding it) and is a low cost scheme which guarantees free health care at the provincial hospital and a good number of clinics and, under this scheme, many Cambodians are able to contribute to an old age pension for the first time.
      Small steps, yes, but the new Prime Minister could actually call himself Dr Hun Manet as he has a PhD in economics from a good English University. He has some interesting and positive ideas for this country so, hopefully, despite him having a great deal to do, things will continue to improve under his administration.

    I thought Cambodia/Sihanoukville was a great place when I arrived several years ago, but then the Chinese arrived and eventually forced me to move on, the place had become unbearable. I picked Vietnam as my next destination, and what a difference, I couldn't be happier; my quality of life has gone up 500%, thank you China for forcing me to leave Cambodia, what a hellhole compared to Vietnam. That goes for Kep as well btw. And looking at this video made me think of the horrific overall conditions in Cambodia, the endless dirt roads, filth everywhere, the unfinished projects, crappy infra structure, lousy power supply etc etc etc. In Vietnam my balcony practically hangs out over the ocean, electricity is always available as is high speed internet. I have yet to find a pothole, the sidewalks are gleeming and cleaned every morning, the roads are wide and orderly, and trash is picked up every evening by modern equipment/trucks; there are also parks everywhere along the ocean and everything is available in the stores. No wonder so many low-expectation westerners love Cambodia, it's a perfect fit, and the fact that it's so easy and cheap to get a visa says it all really; it's a hellhole. Cheers

    More to like than not to like - sounds like to me ? --- For frugal old me - I like the thrifty life - but - not to exclude my "comfort" - so AC as needed in a small easy to cool & easy to clean studio or small 1 br. ? --- Perhaps a weekly visit to clean & maybe cook for a couple days worth of food ? I hope the $700 - $800 / mo. life (?) - works for me over there -&- I'll be absolutely 100% elated !!! --- I'm old and Biden's America is not especially friendly to people like me on $1500 SS only. Many seniors in their 70's and 80's are sleeping in tents on sidewalks - yea - in the richest country in the world ! 🤔 I have no desire to join them - a $100 room w/ac in Siem Reap sounds so much better !!! ❤🙏👍🍺👋 Enjoy your videos.
