I never got use one..but as a kid it sparked my interest in the whole press process.. 39 years later I've been a offset pressman 2/c and 4/c pressman and now digital for about 20 years. This still is a simple, ergonomic, fantastic machine! *God bless*
So cool these old printing machines.can still smell the fresh copies.they really built stuff to last back then, not like the junk today.thanks for the amzing video.
Thank you very much! Since today i own an English Banda machine and this video helped me a lot. It's so hard to get any info about these machines and this clip explains it really well.
steven oxman I know just what you mean. That is why Iove the spirit duplicator so much. I use r9 run off copies in school also. It brings me back to a better time.Simpler.We survived as kids smelling copies and we're not brain dead!!!! Sam
how long could a master last? About how many copies before another must be made? I always wondered how those machines worked, we used to use those to make copies in elementary school handouts and lessons.
There are 2 kinds of masters. Thermal good for 50-100 copies depending on the efficiency of the duplicator and writing and typing masters good for 300 copies depending on the same factors and if you buy regular and long run masters. The new fluid made today available can increase the number of copies. The operation of the operator adjusting the duplicator as t prints accounts for the best results. The duplicator uses fluid not ink. The master is the inks printed in the message on the back side and the paper going thru the duplicator get moistened bt a wick with the fluid just enough to dampen the paper just before passing under the drum where the master is. The contact is so brief a little of the ink on the master comes off and prints on the paper. The fluid is alcohol based and evaporates quickly on the paper. We used to smell them in school if they were still damp, I hope this answers your question. Thanks, Sam
Where do you get the duplicating fluid for these things? I can't seem to find any and I've heard of people using everything from pure methanol, denatured ethyl alcohol to even just plain rubbing alcohol. I'd rather use the real thing if I could find it because I like the old spirit duplicator smell that I remember from school when I was a kid. Do you use spirit duplicating fluid? If so, where might one find it?
it's still being made. I sell a list of companies that make duplicator fluid asell as other mimeograph supplies and duplicator supplies like carbon masters and so on.write me: Backstagehair@comcast.net put theword Mimeograph or Duplicator in the subject to help me see the mail. I get tons on junk mail for some reason. Also It's listed on Ebay under PURPLESAMMYK
