- Here's the first daytime and close up look at a new whitetail drop tine buck! He looks to be a new deer in the area and the first I have ever captured on a trail cam sporting a drop tine. This buck is going to be a beast come September when that velvet sheds!
Put down some minerals this morning so fingers crossed he sticks around and gives us more views of this impressive rack on the trail cameras.
Drop Tine Definition: A drop tine is a tine that grows downward from the main beam of the antler, rather than upward like a typical tine. Drop tines can vary in length and shape, and may be straight or curved.
Drop tines are rare with only a small population of deer growing drop tines each year.
While drop tines are not exclusive to any particular species of deer, they are most commonly found on mule deer and whitetail deer. However, the cause of drop tines remains a mystery. Some experts believe it is a genetic mutation, while others attribute it to injury or disease. Regardless of the cause, drop tines continue to fascinate and intrigue those in the hunting and wildlife communities.

Great video, never get tired of looking at drop tines
Fingers crossed he sticks around and gives us some great shows come fall!
Beauty buck! Plus he's got a kicker going back on that right side too!
Putting Hank to shame, haha!
Going to be a really nice one for sure my friend
Can't wait until September - hopefully he sticks around!

That is a big boy Justin. I have not had much luck capturing bucks in velvet. Seems I am only capturing them come Sept to Nov at the scraps? Any suggestions?
Cheers, Kevin - definitely a big boy that will be a beast come September. No real tricks to capturing velvet bucks - they are either in the area or not. Come fall this spot gets a lot of buck pre, rut, and post. But during the summer months, I'm lucky if I get a handful. This guy seems to be sticking around - which is a good sign.
Most of my cams are set up in the same spots they are in the fall. One good point about this particular cam location is that there is a water source only 30 yards away, which I am sure helps with having regular traffic in the area.
Good luck out there my friend!
@@JustinHoffman Thanks for the info Justin. Always able to learn new things from you. Much appreciated.
