@x. I am very fortunate to have recovered my Luxembourg nationality. My Great-grandfather left Luxembourg during difficult economic times, and though his father returned later on, he could not. Luxembourg restored my nationality for which I am very grateful, but unfortunately I have not yet learned the language.

So year, at the current state a German dialect BUT which is on it's way to become a propre language, just like Dutch did. Well, there're still dialects within Germany which are closer to Dutch/Luxembourgish than to Standard German or other dialects. The difference there is the nationality and identity, but this can change - looking at you Bavaria. But it's kinda still the case that someone from the far north wouldn't understand someone from the far south, if they only speak their dialect and no Standard German. Yet everyone understands and speaks Standard German, so we all can communicate if we want to.

Many people here on board say that Luxembourgish sounds like a combination of French, Dutch and German. That can be explained rationally. It sounds similar to German because it's West Central German (Letzeburger Deitsch) like Moselle Franconian. To Dutch because (especially northern) West Central German already has some features in common with Dutch despite it's Central and not Low German. Luxembourgish uses many French words but how it sounds isn't from French. Most varieties of West Central German and some of East Central German pronounce ch not as ich sound (ç) or ach sound (χ or x) but as ɕ or ʃ similar to sh in English. The same sometimes with g. On the other side sch is sometimes voiced (ʒ). That's dialectal and non standard and the appearance of these features was first noted in the 19th c.. There was no French influence on Central German dialects.

It's Middle German but it's mostly known as Luxembourgish
i ahve sent to a friend some youtube clips, in letzeburgish, she is italian as me, but she speaks a very good german for job, and she told me that when they ( lux )speak slowly she can understand a lot
