- Here are 5 recent NBA playoff sweeps that nobody thought would happen. Some teams on the list weren't the favorites to win, but they certainly were not supposed to get swept so easily.

I considered putting Wiz over the Raps in 2015, but I read somewhere that Lowry had elbow surgery right before the series so I considered that as an injury to an All-Star and didn't include it. That sweep was still shocking though, the rest of the Raptors choked pretty hard.

Andy Hoops you missed two the 2001 Lakers obliterating the top-seeded Spurs in the Western Conference Finals and the Houston Rockets in 1995 sweeping the Orlando Magic in the NBA finals. Those two should've been on the list.
Paul Pierce providing the veteran leadership on that Wizards team and Paul straighting out Otto Porter so that he ended up playing well too that was basically the dagger there. Ugh.
The 82-83 Milwaukee Bucks swept the Bird, Ainge, Archibald, Buckner; Maxwell, McHale, and Parish Celtics.

Welp the Blazerss had a record of 49-33 and the pelicans had a record of 48-34
I knew that Mavs-Lakers one had to be on there. Lakers were so frustrated, that Bynum intentionally elbowed Barea while he was in mid-air in game 4
To me that was #1 cause they were supposed to win to me
Another interesting note about that mavs Lakers series is that it was Phil Jackson's last playoff series of his coaching career and up to that point he had never been swept

@@boltup5750 OKC got demolished in 11 playoffs, yeah OKC swept the mavs in 12 but didnt bring home the championship so its way worse, OKC was demolished by Memphis in 13, OKC cant even fucking keep up with the aging Spurs with rising star Kawhi in 14, then OKC was out of playoffs in 15, then OKC blew a 3-1 lead 16. LoL honestly OKC's record was way way worse than the mavs, heck even as a seattle supersonics their records combined was double the worstness of OKC
I know it's not recent, but for me, the most shocking sweep was the 1995 NBA Finals.
I was at game 4 when the mavs swept the lakers and when the mavs got swept by the thunder
I've always thought that Zach Randolph's era with the Grizzlies was lacking perimeter shooters which was one of the reason they couldn't go further in the Playoffs. That's a very good point you pointed out Andy!

Pelicans sweeping the #3 seed Trailblazers in 2018 1st round. I mean, I felt Pelicans were the better team, but not sure anyone thought a sweep was underway.

You can add in 2018 Trail Blazers against New Orleans, 2021 Heat against Milwaukee who would eventually win the title and the 2022 Nets against Boston who would eventually reach the NBA Finals.

Maybe the reason these upsets occurred is because most of them were in the West where the teams are typically very competitive a team in the West as a 7 seed but if they were in the East they would be like the 3 seed

The 2015 Hawks were one of those teams that was getting it done with no superstars. Those teams never win it all, unless your the Detroit Pistons.

NOBODY is promised a championship. Either your body holds up enough for the playoffs or you lose cause of bad strategizing. Just look at the 1995 Magic and the 2016 Warriors.
