Humans will kill each other regardless of whether it's a gun, a bomb, or even a rock. Guns just make it so your physical prowess is less a factor, they're great equalizers so the only part that matters is numbers

This particular Onion series is geared at pointing out that these mass shootings really only happen in America, yet America pretends that they are uncontrollable. Even though all of the things America blames them on are common in other countries. Yes, other places have higher knife crime. But knife crime doesn't typically have a single individual killing dozens of people at once. It's a matter of scale, and it's dishonest to pretend that scale doesn't matter. Also, it is literally impossible to ban all knives. It's a ridiculous comparison. Guns are a different story, and most other countries have very different policies than America, with better results.

Yeah they had came out & said this has far less to do with the Second Amendment and much more to do with the mental health crisis that's causing these things to happen. I've always felt this way in life, that guns are not objectively "bad things", but they can be used in bad ways - and the only way to prevent or even just lower the occurrences would be to treat the underlaying issue.. Just geographically speaking, for America to ban guns would be absolutely silly. I looked into it a few years ago and with some information from the FBI & Interpol and national policing agencies gathered some pretty harrowing numbers.. Namely that an AK platform rifle in The US somewhereabouts near California on the illegal market (obviously brought in through Mexico) was only worth about $1,300USD.. While the same exact matching rifle in Australia would be ballparked at around $35,000USD, and in The UK, said platform would be about $27,000USD. These countries that have outlawed private ownership could afford to do so on a few different variables, but a huge one is simply just geography. They don't have a Mexico. They don't have a South America, where quite literally lays the Murder Capital of The World. I don't mean to talk shit on these countries, but they are contributing factors. Lol But to get to the real issue that is mental health, I think, would solve a lot of these issues. I think if we could just get on board with literally every other "First World" country on the planet, and move from privatized healthcare to a more public, free installation, I think we'd see drastic changes even in these instances.. Parents wouldn't need to worry about paying for therapy, or medications (if needed) for their children. We've tried putting Resource Officers and security guards in schools, and it's just not working. It's ridiculous that we've even let it go this far, if we're being honest.
An assault rifle is not a tool. Fire can warm you. You can shower with water. It's clear the only purpose of a gun like that is to kill. It's a weapon and is therefore rightfully outlawed in most countries for personal use. Yes humans kill humans but let's not make it easy to do so in mass. Amazing song tho we can agree on that.

Yes, public shooters is one symptom (of many) of our society and how twisted we've all become. We drive people to madness until they become public shooters, and then we point the finger at everyone but ourselves. For every public shooter, there are thousands that nobody knows about or cares about. Fix this society and there will be no more shootings. It's not the guns, it's the people.

So I'm a strong advocate for our 2A rights. And this song initially had me worried I wouldn't be able to enjoy the amazing music over a fundamental disagreement, but it's really clear to me, this is more about the mental health of our youth and our nation as a whole, than it is about guns or 2A. I agree, community is dying in our nation, and the mental anguish it's caused the youth is unimaginable. I really love this band, and I really enjoy this song. We need to work on fixing the source of these issues, not putting superficial legislation and band aid bills onto of the symptoms. Keep rocking hard dudes. We need it.
