Dude launches his own paint line... but still pimps vallejo. What a boss! THAT’S confidence. GW would never DARE suggest the competition’s paint. I think when i need paint going forward i we’ll get Duncan’s.
I haven't tried them yet, but I have to say I have more success working with more thin layers from Vallejo or even better, Colorscale (who have some amazing sets!!) than I do with the thicker paints from ArmyPainter or Citadel, that I always have to thin down to the right consistency first.
SMASH THAT LIKE BUTTON AND VOTE!!! “When you vote, you are exercising political authority, you're using force. And force, my friends, is violence. The supreme authority from which all other authorities are derived.”
I'm doing my part! o7
This comment made me act and act I did. Smash that button
Based
"You made it past the intro" as if it wasn't freaking amazing! Have a great weekend Duncan and team!
Thank you. You too!
“This is for all you new people: I only have one rule. Everyone SUBSCRIBES. No one quits. You don’t hit that LIKE button, I’ll shoot you myself. Do you get me?” In all seriousness though, we hope you enjoyed this one and thanks for watching!
“WE GET YOU, SIR!!”
I love this film ! Amazing intro !
Sir Duncan of Rhodes I need your counsel on painting a Valkyrie…. I base coated it Castellan Green but seem to have hit that invisible wall as to what the next step(s) should be & also want to do the interior cos the door guns are going to be in use

Duncan just WON the internet. This is amazing. I will always have your back!
Every word of that intro is pure gold 😂
Oh, and the painting advice is top notch as usual too
My favourite line in Starship Troopers ... "The enemy cannot push a button, if you disable his hand"
Great paint video by the way
We tried to find away to squeeze that one in lol
MEDIC!!
Zim's explanation in the novel was far more nuanced and intelligent.
That entire intro was pure gold :) love me some Starship Troopers. Also nice paint scheme.
Thanks 😀 We're glad you enjoyed it
I got catachans and my buddy got Tyranids after watching Starship Troopers for the first time as kids back in 3rd edition. We had no idea how to properly play but had a great time rolling dice on his parents massive dining table. This video hit different and I love it.
Well I didn't want the new Cadians but seeing them as the Mobile Infantry I kinda do
I know right?
I gotta agree I think this is another case where the GW paint job is just isn't complementary. That said still not a fan of the mixed stock and pistol grip las rifles in each squad, when will GW wrap their head around the idea of standard issues and a decent number of accessory pouches (also the way that back pack just grows out the troopers back isn't great, would it really be so hard to design in some edges)
@@DuncanRhodesDRPA I think I'll try the scheme on my Kasrkin 👍
@@maddlarkin standard issue probably isn’t in the Imperiums design philosophy!
You could always go for the Wargames Atlantic Ooora or whatever they are called when they come out, if you want something that looks better.
You had me rolling the whole video with your movie references. Bravo sir. As a huge fan of the book and movie I approve.
Back when the movie was released me and my friend were at the theater watching another movie and the theater was having audio issues. We saw the trailer for the first time with no sound and every one of us were 40k players thought they had made a IG vs Nids army.
When you left GW's painting tutorials I've never really been back to see anything else on their channel. I just happened to stumble across this video as I scrolled through my recommendations and was really happy to see you still teaching and making perfection look simple.
Wow, thank you! 😊
i'm 90 seconds in and 50 Starship Trooper quotes so far, looking forward to the final count
🤣🤣🤣
This is such an awesome paintjob, and I am in love with the new Imperial Guard models, they have so much more detail it makes me want to start an Imperial Guard army, even though I still need to finish my Space Marines, Orks and Necrons.
That opening alone made my day, thanks Duncan! Lol
Our pleasure Scott
"I'm from the painting academy, and I say 'Paint em all!'" - DR
This whole video was amazing XD
Thanks, it was fun to make lol
I’ve had some pics of painted Cadians and multiple browser tabs of Starship Troopers uniform reference photos open all week. Very cool to see your take on this!
Thanks. It's the perfect colour scheme for Guard
The best first 75 seconds of any mini painting video ever made
'i can't do freehand. Yet.'
DUNCAN's ROUGHNECKS! man, you nailed all the references 🥰
This lower contrast paintjob looks way more appealing to me than the official box paint
I've been looking for a grey-based scheme for my Guard for awhile, but I could never make it not visually boring or messy. This scheme looks like just the ticket!
Hey Duncan, this is great, you are certainly doing your part.
Would you be able to show some conversions for guard? Like Tanith, Praetoria, Steel legion, or Vostroyans?
Perfect follow up would be a matching Tyranid Arachnid scheme!
I greatly appreciate this both as an educational and entertaining product
I loved how you kept dropping those references.
Hadn't thought bought Starship Troopers for years. Cool video.
These new models are fantastic, and this tutorial just showed how a (teorically) simple scheme can valorize them.
Man I would definitely try this on my Kasrkins. They'll be doing their part.
The Painting Academy made me the man I am today.
Those little one liners lad absolute gold 😅
I've never even seen Starship Troopers and this is still hilarious. Wonderful job!
It's a sci-fi staple :-)
This has to be the most based video Dunc has ever done.
I know, I love it so dang much
Can't wait for the layer video and the highlight reel
You need to paint up a primaris psyker so you can tell if the Tyranids are afraid
Good idea
Frankly I find the idea of a bug that thinks insulting!
I would like to know more!
Duncan, leading the Rhodes' Rougnecks corps of painters. "Until you die, or until we find someone better".
The movie is fun, but I'm a huge fan of the book. And Duncan.
love the starship troopers references :D
What fun! Thank you for sharing
Our pleasure Diz
Painting Academy made me the painter I am today!
Nice 👍
This was great! Would love to see a Valkyrie to complete the look!
Agreed!
Love Starship troopers and am about to become a new Guard player. Wonder what colour scheme I may use...? Brilliant paint guide, love it.
Great seeing free hand on the shoulder pads 👍
It's nice to see much more fun getting Duncan, and for that matter peachy too. Life after GW let's them really have personality, humor, and really paint how they want using whatever they want
Dammit! This was the exact theme that I wanted for my Planet Federis Imperial Guard which treated the Tyrannids just like the bugs from Starship Troopers.
Great job I was always wondering how to paint those for my army
After seeing the amount of hilighting and detail homeboy puts into rank and file all I can say is… MEDIC!!
This is the best hobby video Ive seen in 30 years.
"If you don't thin your paints, ill shoot you"
So many nostalgia spasms.
😂 Awesome! We're glad you enjoyed it. It was fun to create thats for sure
Jesus christ he really took that "Thin your paints or I'll thin your ranks meme to heart"
Awright, the "man I am today" bit got me, nice.
That was an awesome video! Apart from the usual masterclass in applying paint, the theme and the running gags around it, were fantastic!!! =D cheers from Melbourne, Australia!
Cheers matey 👍
Just what I’ve been looking for. The 2nd Klendathu mobile infantry, the roughnecks, can begin recruiting next year 👍🏻
"They're too late!" tyranids get an A for effort!
They sure do! I want to see the one that launched the friggin' rock in the first place!
Absolutely freaking awesome 👌 👍😅🤣 The cow was the best!!
Lol 🤣
Love the Starship Troopers reference!
That. Was. AWESOME!
Thanks Jon
Hands down the best intro I've ever seen on a painting tutorial hahaha 11/10
Thank you. We're glad you enjoyed it. Rog had a blast making that one for sure!
The call backs coming in thick and fast. Love it! Great scheme too.
Thanks
The sheer number of quotes is amazing. Great paint scheme as well
Thanks, we tried to fit more in too 🤣
I am preparing with a friend a color scheme for this army, very cool your color scheme.
I absolutely love this movie and I'm so happy y'all did such a cool mashup with all the quotes worked in. Seriously one of my favorite videos that you've ever made, Duncan!
This video and the tutorial are great. We don't deserve you Duncan 😌
Great, fun video - perfect models for Xenos Rampant!
Well blow me down with a lettuce. Yesterday I watched Starship Troopers and thought to myself 'bet those new guard would look sweet painted up as Mobile Infantry' a few hours later you post this!
It's destiny!
I love the Starship Trooper reference that was sweet!
That first minute or so. Perfect! Great job!
First 2 seconds of the intro and I knew it was going to be another great video. The tyranids send another meteor towards cadia. But they were too late! Bwahaha gold. Pure gold.
🤣
I fucking love Duncan lmao, YES! Starship Troopers man, such a movie.
OMG the little lines in between the explanations 😍
So many repurposed oneliners.
It's glorious
I love the drops of references throughout the video, excellent performance
Id love to see Alien Colonial marines color scheme, maybe for Catachans? (if GW will update the current plastic troops....)
Oh man love that star intro recently revatched the movie too, thanks for the guide Duncan and the team
Duncan, you wonderful mad lad, I could not breath I was laughing so hard through that intro!
Love this color scheme (and the humor to go along with it). Saving this one for the future cause now I want to make this team.
Awesome video and paint job for the Cadians! You’re doing your part!
Your Videos just keep getting better and better.
The moment I played the video I burst out laughing!
Another great paint job!
Thank you 😊
This might be the greatest video you guys have ever done!!
This is my new fave imp guard paint scheme! ❤
wooo i was planning on doing this! im so happy you made this!
Awesome! We're glad too!
You are a great lad, never change!
This is the best video you've ever made
Literally just watched it then saw this. And my cadia standing arrived today. Mmmm wonder what I’ll be doing for the foreseeable future. Brilliant vid Duncan thanks 👍👍
So many quotes tossed in. Very nicely done.
What a brilliant video! Awesome Duncan
Hilarious!! Great movie, great paint scheme, great video Duncan!!
Best video yet!!!
great paintjob
Was pondering on what colour I was going to paint my new guard. Was thinking of doing a WWII German scheme however......
Go for it!
Fun addition to the channel! Great tutorial as well :)
Really waited for a tutorial like that for the guard. Love Starship trooper
This...Love it.
That intro got me to subscribe to the channel immediately
About to receive my first Astra Militarum miniatures and I have found my paint theme, so epically good!!!
That is awesome!
That intro was amazing !
Thanks, we had fun making it lol
Got the army box for Christmas (am in the middle of building it atm!) and thanks to this video i'm also tackling a klendathu themed tyranid force to fight the M.I.
Hoo-rah!
I am watching the movie right after this vid!! HAHA!!! Great job team.
Nice one Duncan!!! Love that intro
Wow. This was awesome. I want to know more!
Nicely done, Duncan.
