Monastiraki Square in Athens, Greece - What You Need To Know

- Monastiraki Square, directly adjacent to Plaka, with Syntagma Square not far up the street, is one of the main plazas in Athens, Greece santorinidave..... The square itself is filled with people all day long including both tourists and locals, vendors, and downtown workers. Monastiraki has a busy metro station, is a stop for tour buses, is filled with restaurants, cafes, and bars, many hotels the city's top attractions within a short walking distance. The square especially comes alive at night with street performers, food vendors, and strolling tourists.

thank you so very much for posting this! I have 2 days on my own in Athens, and have been trying to get clear directions on where to exit the metro station to get to Hadrian's Library and also the Agora. All the guide books say "head southeast" and none of the maps have street names on them! I know most metro stations have more than one exit and it's so easy to get turned around. Now I can look for the Monastiraki square exit, and I know the landmarks thanks to your video.
I used google maps for directions which specify street names
Going there in March 24 staying at A for Athens so looking forward to it

Is this place safe at night and day?
No
not anymore. Refugees hang here at night. rappers at the metro station panhandlings. shoeless pakistanis harassing people and nigerians pushing people to buy bracelets. Greeks know to stay away from this area. it got very disgusting. The Greek- Athenian thing to do is book reservations at a rooftop around. Not walk below.
