I’m a 55 year old that discovered Band-Maid a few years back. I went down the pigeon hole and have not come out. I then discovered The Warning thru them. I was fortunate enough to win tickets to the Japan show with The Warning next week. My first trip to Japan. All because of a little pigeon !😂.
She doesn't compose all of the song. MISA and Akane compose their parts of the song. MISA has said in interviews that Kanami rarely changes her bass lines. Also Miku occasionally asks that Kanami change bits of the music to better accommodates the lyrics. There's a reason in the credits it states music Band Maid!!
When MISA ditched the French maid outfit early on she started to wear a Chinese inspired maid outfit - in black of course. (Saiki's was Spanish inspired). It's partly how MISA got her nickname 'The Barefoot Assassin' . Well, she always plays barefoot, and Miku joked her outfit was an 'assassin maid'!
Years ago, an interviewer asked why MISA didn't dress in maid gear, Miku explained that MISA is, in fact, an assassin maid. So... She's a maid. A deadly one.
Many of us saw Band-Maid play “From Now On” live. OMNG! Kanami riffed her ass off. The DB’s matched the BPM’s! So FROM NOW ON, Band-Maid will grow in popularity even faster as their awesome, sold out 10TH ANNIVERSARY TOUR wrapped up at Japan’s 17,000 seat Yokohama Arena on Nov. 26 and at Hong Kong. AND they’re writing and recording for their new album! The Maids are one of the hardest working supergroups in the business! Their music, their sound, each of the Maids... and the love that permeates their live events is an experience not to be missed. Hope you can catch them LIVE! Thx, Pent!
Thank you for your reaction. I fell in love with these ladies about three years ago. I am also decidedly in the older end of the demographic, raised on hard rock. This is basically a 3+ minute guitar solo with instrumental accompaniment. My only (small) quibble is that Miku does not really get to shine much, although I love her rhythm playing on this. With 120+ songs available, I envy you being able to hear them for the first time.
In fact? Misa doesn't even wear dress anymore. Her new battle armor is a 2 piece. It's pants and A. Top. Still has that awesome assassin maid look thou
Actually, the Band-Maid and The Warning show in Tokyo is coming up in a week on June 12th; it's not in October. And, The Warning is playing an additional headlining show in Tokyo without Band-Maid and one in Osaka.
Band-Maid is just so damned good, you can't help but smile when you hear their music. The one thing I love about the group is their incorporation of MISA's brilliant bass playing in their music. They have just redefined the importance of the bass guitar in rock and roll.
MISA (bassist) is an/the Assassin Maid-..... she was never "down" with the Maid attire, so they gave her, her own outfits.... the same with Saiki,, although her attire is of a Maitre d.' Akane (Drums) is a maid, but to her own personal /Drumming style.
Band-Maid has always put a smile on my heart, this instrumental is pure joy. Like every band they have their ups and downs, yet Band-Maid keeps pressing forward and if you don't like one song just wait a hot second and the next one will be fabulous.
Thanks again from Japan 有難う💛。 I witnessed this song performed live four times with this MV quality in Japan and dropped my jaw four times 😲. I believe so did many of American audience in their recent three US tours. This song has been normally played in the middle of the setlist to give Saiki, lead vocalist, some break. They played this song, however, as opening at festivals and in Guns N' Roses concert in Japan as support to the legendary band. Yeah! they showed off their skills and talents to the audience who knew nothing about the girls in maid outfit on the stage. I felt as if I heard them screaming "Hey guys! Listen to us and open your eyes wide! We are not the persons that you think ! Salute us!" 😄
9:22 -We're called "Maidiacs". To answer your question, you're seeing a slow evolution of their maid outfits away from traditional maid costumes to a more subtle appearance. If you check out Hate? (Official live), MIku is the only one left wearing a super-obvious traditional maid outfit which is poetic considering she founded the band back in 2013.
The instrumental, and there are three of them, they wrote when Saiki was recovering from surgery and needed breaks from the concert, they played instrumentals and a song where Miku sang
I know the Misa reason has been explained, she basically doesn’t like the maid outfits so she’s just in black outfits at this point. There is an interview called “Music Goldrush” where the host calls her out on her outfit not being a maid outfit. Miku jumps in to say it is a maid outfit, it’s an “assassin maid”. The host basically says that’s not a thing and everyone has a good laugh. This is where the “barefoot assassin” moniker was born (the barefoot part being her preference to play barefoot)
Kanami Tono is a genius. Other bands try to write and perform stuff like this and when they get to the studio their producer has to figure out how to flesh the track out. But not Band-Maid, Kanami has a MIDI based piano and orchestral synth track ready to go. And she has Misa, Akane, and Miku there to fill things out. I watched perform this in Detroit last year. They were perfect. I was ten feet in front of Kanami and her figerwork is amazing. The explanation for Misa's non-maid maid outfit is, like everything about Band-Maid, circuitous. From the beginning Misa was not a fan of the maid costumes, nor was Saiki. Misa went along to get along. She was in Band-Maid at her friend Akane's invitation and grudgingly accepted the maid costumes. But as soon as the band caught on and they were allowed a hand in designing personalized costumes, Misa went for an all black look that mimicked that of a Chinese housekeeper's dress and ceased looking like a maid. The first interview after that change, the interviewer noted that she didn't look like a maid, but more like a ninja assassin, and called her "The Assassin Maid". She prefers playing barefoot and so the nickname "The Barefoot Assassin" stuck. The outfit has gradually evolved into her current pantsuit.
Miku (Red Rose)- Lyrics/Backing Vocals/Guitar is the band founder, who was previously working in a Maid Cafe, when she she decided that she wanted to form a rock band to play "Cool music". She was keen to continue the maid theme in the outfits for the band, but after a short while Saiki (Lead Vocals) and Misa (Bass) soon began changing their look until you get what we see today- a sort of Goth/Maid mix. Miku, Kanami (Music/Lead Guitar), and Akane (Drums) meanwhile are still happy to sport the general maid look.
Kanami did the singing on this one! Saiki and Misa never really liked wearing the maid outfits. I believe Saiki tore off the apron part during or after their first performance. They actually didn't even tell her about the outfits when she auditioned because they knew she wouldn't like it. I believe Misa said hers was an assassin maid's outfit, which is probably how she got her nickname, barefoot assassin!
Such a fantastic instrumental song from these amazing ladies! I would recommend "Giovanni" in both instrumental and with lyrics, the same song, but when it's the instrumental version it takes on a life of it's own! I've seen The Warning three times and I know you enjoy them!
There are actually four officially released instrumentals (Onset, Don't Be Long, Without Holding Back, From Now On), as well as many instrumental versions of their other songs released as B-sides, bonuses, etc., and a full instrumental version of the album Unseen World released with the official score book. There have been some "unreleased" instrumentals that were made available for a limited time that you can find (Go Nuts, which was used on a radio program iirc, and Want More, which was a demo that eventually became Without Holding Back) and I believe one of their new songs that they've played in Japan a few times (Go Easy) is an instrumental as well. Most Band-Maid songs actually work quite well as instrumentals due to Kanami's compositional style. All Band-Maid songs are composed music first (Guitarist Kanami us the primary composer, but Bassist MISA and drummer Akane also contribute), with the lyrics added after by Miku and/or Saiki based on how the music makes them feel.
Great reaction as usual. I have a sneaky feeling that when they go on tour for the upcoming album, it will not be in the US at first. I think they will hit Europe, Asia and maybe South America first. I am in Australia, praying that they will come here. Anyhow, it is all speculation. Rock on 🤘
MISA is dressed as an 'assassin maid', which concept is largely the product of Miku's fertile mind. The fact is that she and Saiki hated the more traditional maid outfits so they were allowed to modify them, MISA ending up with a Goth look and Saiki with a kind of Spanish-flavoured 'hostess' look.
Misa and Saiki used to wear maid outfits, but neither much cared for them. Go watch the music video for "Thrill" and you'll see them. That was the song that got them going and saved the band.
Another awesome reaction to the Maids. You're one of now, get used to our name...Maidiacs.😂 I'm in the same boat as you. If I want to see Band-Maid live, it's road/air trip for me. All I can say, if you can, it's definately worth it! It's the only way for me to see them. 😱 Keep on rocking with the Maids! PO!🕊 🤘😆🤘
You have a great concert schedule coming up. You're going to have a great rest of the year. congrats! And don't worry, if Band-maid are coming back here it is likely in mid 2025.
Misa and Saiki only wore Maid outfits in the very early days, in fact the management and Miku didn`t even tell Saiki about the maid outfits until after she had rehearsed and agreed to join the band because they thought it would put her off joining. She and Misa have worn various black outfits since then. Great reaction as usual, and as a massive fan of the Maids, Lovebites, Babymetal, and The Warning I look forward to many more reactions from you.
I hear people talking about Band Maid possibly moving away from the Band Maid uniforms, I hope not. I honestly think that kanami would be the last one that would make a change like that.
@@scottmcgregor4829In a similar vein, when I first discovered Trident, their first MVs had them in retro military- styled outfits, and I kind of miss that aesthetic for them. One the one hand, they've put out music since then that that look doesn't obviously fit, but in a way I think Band Maid made a smarter choice by establishing a visual identity so that they could be musical shapechangers. Saiki's and MISA's battlegear aren't obviously "maid-like," but they are very "MISAish" and "Saikiesque" through all the later versions. When you see a shot from the back of the stage of a Band-Maid member looking out at an audience, you know immediately what band it is without even seeing their face. I just find that really neat.
The reason why Misa the bassist doesn't wear a maid outfit is pretty simple, it's because she didn't like to wear it so they made it an exception. But they say that It's still a maid outfit🤣
In recent times it appears she is wearing a hakama - traditional bifurcated skirt worn by Samurai for horseback warfare. Hakama are worn in a variety of Japanese martial arts. I doubt seriously I'd it in actuality a hakama as they are a pain in the ass to fold correctly.😢
I think Saiki and MISA could be wearing the stuff they're usually in on their Instagram posts and Miku would be like, "Yah it's a unique style for maids but they're still 'MAID outfits" 😂
Great reaction as always. 👍🏽 This is the song that put me over the top. They convinced me that they didn’t have to rely on anything other than musicianship and composition. Regarding MISA, from all I’ve heard and read, she was very close to quitting the band very early on. Not based on the outfits, but it showed she was willing to step away. She was convinced to stay and she did (thank his highness Tiny Hat-san!) “I’ll be in this band, but I’m not wearing that!” Probably is the short version of hers (and Saiki’s) conversation with Miku. Saiki has open animosity towards the costumes. No doubt there were battles between her and Miku. Miku knows the band’s success has been made (pun!) based in no small part upon their unexpected and bold contrasting image. She apparently bent to their demands to keep the thing rolling. Their most recent uniforms are the least cohesive Maid image yet. Miku is essentially alone at this point, with Kanami now in black as well.
TO ALL, A QUESTION: Now that we're counting down to the Two Titans of Rock sharing the stage together June 12, what, if any, song(s) do you think they will partake in together? Will The Sisters join the Maids for a B-M song, or will the Maids join The Sisters set for a Warning song? AND if so, what song(s) will they do together? Love to know your thoughts....
Misa is also called "Bouncer". According to one version, Miku and Kanami are dressed as French and English maids, Saikou is dressed as the hostess of the establishment, in the Spanish style. Akane (drummer) is dressed as a chef, and Misa is dressed as a bouncer (martial artist)

Actually, Saiki also doesn't really wear a maid outfit, and Kanami appears to be evolving her outfit toward something a bit more gothic. Saiki and MISA were skeptical of the maid schtick from the very beginning, and I think that's actually given them an added element of cool. In their very earliest videos you will see all five in straight-up French Maid outfits.
This particular iteration of the outfits, they worked with a person that specializes in vintage clothes, so I think that’s why Kanami seems like she’s getting away from the traditional look. Someone pointed out to me that her outfit is actually the band maid logo, and I can see it. It’s pretty cool.
This band was created by Miku. When Miku asked the vocalist to wear a maid outfit, she was slammed to the floor. However, Miku talked about it as a "laughing story" on a variety show. There are many bands whose members fight, split up, or fall apart. This is because people with strong individuality and self-assertion gather here. If Miku had been the type of person who would get furious over vocals, the band would not have been as successful as it is today. The ability to play the guitar and the ability to play the drums are of course important. However, they are only evaluated when they appear in public. Miku's role as a clown and the glue within the band is actually very important.
My take on the maid outifits is that they all have some variation of a "maid" outfit it's just that Miku's, Kanami's and Akane's are the most obvious. MISA's is more chinese inspired and referred to as the "Assassin maid". As for Saiki, having a more elaborate outfit, she could represent what is a "lady in waiting" which traditionally was/is a lower ranking noble serving a higher noble or royalty. So while not a servant or a maid, she still fills the same role for her "mistress" i.e the audience.
LOVEBITES US Tour 2024 tickets went on sale this morning. They all wore maid outfits in the beginning. See the THRILL video, as wells as earlier photos and videos. MISA was never into the look, and SAIKI dispensed with her white apron after their first concert. (In that video, it's confusing to see both vocalists wearing nearly identical outfits.) Subsequently, MISA's outfits have been informed by Chinese styles or have resembled ninja "pajamas," and SAIKI's by traditional clothing of Spain (I think). Years ago, AKANE's outfit transformed from a skirt to short trousers, more suitable for drumming.
I had my LOVEBITES ticket on Monday. It took me almost an hour and a half of translating pages from Japanese to join their fan club to get the access code for band presales... but I was determined! "Pro-Tip" - for any band you might want to see in the future, find out where they drop their presale codes and you will be able to start your purchasing up to 2 days ahead of time. I did that for Babymetal and LOVEBITES. I am already registered for everything possible for BAND-MAID. LOL
@@ThePentagenarian Band-Maid's first show in Dallas was in 2019 in the Cambridge Room at House of Blues where Lovebites is having their Dallas show. The Cambridge Room is small, the stage probably should be higher, and I have heard it gets hot as hell when full. The next Band-Maid Dallas show was in October, 2022 and also at House of Blues. Fortunately, they graduated to the main music venue at HoB which has a balcony with seats and holds around 1500. That is where I saw Band-Maid. Hopefully Lovebites will also get the big room on their next trip to Dallas. If you are renting a car, there is a great parking lot southeast of HoB across the highway and is a very short walk. You can reserve a space online. If you want any recommendations about Dallas, just let me know. I will be seeing Lovebites a couple of nights before in Atlanta. That is my wallet busting concert trip for the year.
@@danw6048As you alluded to, the sight lines are really poor in the Cambridge Room because the stage is so low. I did see Band-Maid there in 2019, actually I could only see the tops of their heads. Unless Lovebites uses raisers it’s going to be a problem to see them also. Maybe if there is enough demand Live Nation will move them to a larger venue as they did with Band-Maid in 2022.
I hear you in concert tickets. I'm from Chicago and got VIP tickets for Lovebites in Dallas, then the next day Babymetal announces a tour and I have to go to Madison, WI to see that, a big ouch in the wallet but worth it. And yeah if Band-Maid announces US dates in the fall, oh boy. With the tickets I have now I will have seen 5 Japanese artists this year.
How fast did the VIP tickets sell out!?! That is what I was going for, but by the time I got on a couple hours after the Artist Presale started, there were none available!

Kanami🥰took the vocals in her own hands on this one.
Yes, Bro! Hörgitter kennen Sing, Cry, Yeah, Whisper! Everything you can do with your Mouse! It’s a Little Bit for me like the Guitar of B. B. King!😂😊
She was convinced to stay and she did (thank his highness Tiny Hat-san!)
“I’ll be in this band, but I’m not wearing that!” Probably is the short version of hers (and Saiki’s) conversation with Miku.
After the recent BabyMetal x Electric Callboy collaboration, I can tell you what I am hoping for!
@@ThePentagenarian Me too!
"A Masterclass of Awesomeness." Think I've heard that somewhere before. But always the truth. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥Peace. 9.04

MISA is just too cool for a maid outfit.......plain and simple.

Hi there hope you well I love the outfits smashing drums amazing the way they live themselves in Tops👌🔥😊
@@danharris4512 That is very possible. Live Nation has already changed the LA venue to a place that holds close to 800.
I have tickets for Heart/Cheap Trick this August. It'll be the 5th time seeing Heart and the 1st time seeing Cheap Trick.
Both are amazing live!
@@ThePentagenarian I heard they sold out in about 15 mins. I was there the second they went on sale I knew they would be gone super quick.
@@Dante94 Good on you! I was driving to work when they went on sale... grrrr...
