Without question the greatest band in the history of the planet! They stand alone. Artists like this only come once in 1000 years. For them to be alive at the same time and actually meet and form a band. That only happens once. Period!
Why must I be the thief? Why must I be the thief? Oh Lord please won't you tell me Why must I be the thief? Why must I be the thief? He said to the hanging man And how come you're the only one Who's a beggar, that always stares? Why must I be the thief? He asked of the hanging man And how come you're the only one Who lived with an open hand? Well why must I be the thief? He cursed and then he cried And the hanging man put out his hand And looked beyond his eye And the thief he climbed that cross To share that other's fate But the Jesus man said "Not now My brother, not now, it's far too late" Far too late Far too late Far too late Far too late Far too late Far too late Far too late Do what you must Take what you can Steal the pride from every heart Every angered man Every angered man Every angered man I am the thief I am the thief And you may run Yes, and you may hide But I will get you yet Yes I will Because of you, 'cause it's just your pride Just your pride! Pride!, Pride! Pride!, Pride! Pride!, Pride! Pride!, Pride! And I will get you yet Cos it's just your pride I will get you yet It's just your pride I will get you yet It's just your pride!
hello from the future. japan's just like that, they treat every gig like it's a small club jazz show. it's really cool for a lot of bands, but when you're at some fairly hype, energetic rock or metal show it maybe takes away from the energy a little
why must I be the thief, oh lord please won't you tell me and how come you're the only one who's better off and always stands the only one who gives with an open hand he cursed and then he cried. and the hanging man held out his hand and looked beyond the sky and the thief would climb that cross to share the other's fate. But Jesus says not now, my brother not now it's far too late. Do what you must, take what you can. Steal the heart from every angered man I'll do it, it's justified.mormon?
I downloaded the entire discography of Can but couldn't get past the vocals =/ The radiohead cover is much more alive than the original from Delay 1968.
Most can songs kinda seem as if they’re designed to be instrumental only. I do agree though, the vocals in the original version of the thief are a bit rough. I think damo would’ve been much better. That’s just me though.
Can Thief video comments/arguments brought me here out of curiosity, as i dont have any radiohead recordings at all among many TB of music, and certainly dont plan on adding any after wasting 89 secs listening to this.
And if you only gave someone 89 seconds to like a Can song they probably wouldn't, Can and Radiohead are both great, only giving 89 seconds to decide if you like they not is a bit of an insult, also the other cover they did of this song is much better anyway
@@frenchguitarguy1091 I lasted a couple of months just for starting love radiohead and understanding their personality as a band. Of course they aren't a band that everyone would love at start, but they're the band i can easily recommend to anyone who asks me if it's worth it and boi it is.
i think the vocals start really working here after "the thief he climbed that cross to share that others fate, but the jesus man said 'not now my brother, it's far too late...'" his vocals here are more desperate, manic than malcom's more defeated, sickly sounding performance, which doesn't work so much for the first half of the song but works very fucking well for the second half, as "the thief" realises that he's condemned and embraces his role as the thief. pretty unhinged and freaky, but then the original vocal performance is too, in its own way.
Can = Amazing band.
This is the most energetic version of this song I have seen awesome cover❤
god, I love the dedication!!

CAN > Pink Floyd.
"Delay 1968" is actually the name of the record, and it was released in 1981.
yeah, but it was recorded in 1968. (with the old singer malcolm mooney)
Flawless band is flawless.
Why must I be the thief?
Why must I be the thief?
Oh Lord please won't you tell me
Why must I be the thief?
Why must I be the thief?
He said to the hanging man
And how come you're the only one
Who's a beggar, that always stares?
Why must I be the thief?
He asked of the hanging man
And how come you're the only one
Who lived with an open hand?
Well why must I be the thief?
He cursed and then he cried
And the hanging man put out his hand
And looked beyond his eye
And the thief he climbed that cross
To share that other's fate
But the Jesus man said "Not now
My brother, not now, it's far too late"
Far too late
Far too late
Far too late
Far too late
Far too late
Far too late
Far too late
Do what you must
Take what you can
Steal the pride from every heart
Every angered man
Every angered man
Every angered man
I am the thief
I am the thief
And you may run
Yes, and you may hide
But I will get you yet
Yes I will
Because of you, 'cause it's just your pride
Just your pride!
Pride!, Pride!
Pride!, Pride!
Pride!, Pride!
Pride!, Pride!
And I will get you yet
Cos it's just your pride
I will get you yet
It's just your pride
I will get you yet
It's just your pride!
Thank you for the lyrics
Merci pour les paroles ❤
There is only minimal applause because half the audience has fainted, right?

go slowly.
Can isn't even about the vocals. Most of them are just made up on the spot and often pretty far back in the mix
@@jackOnderisin13 I like comments such as this one, you are listening to music from a sonic level as well which is so valuable.

You never heard of Radiohead before this? You need to listen to more music, champ
Weak performance, great composition....
You have a typo, let me correct that for yo: great performance, great composition.
@@EasyCartoonDrawingTutorials - thank you for your Soviet criticism
not weak, but definitely johnny's guitar is missing some overdrive and delay, sounds too dry.
