  • I spend a week with the 2024 Jeep Wrangler Willys 4xe, the best-selling plug-in hybrid in America. For 2024, the Willys trim gets beefed up to be a budget Rubicon, and all 2024 Wranglers get a bigger touchscreen and some small improvements to refinement, feature content and safety. But at this one's as-tested price of over $60,000 while still having cloth seats, lots of cheap materials and not much space, it's clear that you're still paying the Jeep tax with the 2024 Wrangler and it really only makes sense for someone that plans to use the Jeep's full capabilities off-road frequently. Furthermore, the price premium for the 4xe version is still steep, even with tax incentives. But this hasn't seemed to hurt Wrangler sales, so I'm sure the Jeep faithful will mostly like the 2024 improvements and they'll only help Wrangler sales. What do you think about the 2024 Jeep Wrangler 4xe? Thanks to Jeep for providing this vehicle to review.

    A couple of things you missed about the 4xe. Stellantis does a very weird MPG calculation, as it doesn't factor in any of the EV driving into it, thus that 17 MPG was only for the gas engine. If you factored in the EV driving, it would be much higher. The only way to know for sure the MPG would be to fill it up with gas and see how much gas it's using. Also, Jeep did make some changes to both the regenerative braking as well as the charge mode which signifcantly increases the efficiency of charging. Lastly, the 4Xe's not have the option of a power box, which is sort of an inverter, that would allow you to use the EV battery to power various electrical devices. This is really awesome for camping, or other adventures you would have with your jeep. I love your content !!

    To me the side curtain airbags came because of the Bronco. All this time they say it was impossible because of the removable roof, but when the Bronco came out. Its now "Oh yeah, we can"😂

    Bought a 2024 4XE Rubicon loaded with power roof. I love it. It has cloth which I wanted as the leather gets hot in the sun. It’s phenomenal and fun to drive. I got $15K off the sticker price. The steering isn’t bad at all nor is it very loud as everyone complains. I’ve owned load of luxury cars. It’s so much fun and the power rod is amazing.

    I also own the 2024 4xe Willy’s with 10,000 hard miles on it now and still loving it however I do have the 220 plug that I bought from Home Depot and now I charge fully within 2 hours and we only drive 100% in electric off road or in town and on the freeway in the e save mode we seldom use the hybrid mode because it drains the battery quickly . Once you learn the mechanics you’ll love it because it’s truly amazing and we traded in our 2021 4Runner in on it and we still 100% satisfied with the Willy’s and we are considering getting the wife one also

    Matt- it has to be charged to drive around in EV. Otherwise you can only drive slowly in a low battery. There is plenty of power in EV when charged!

      I fully charged the 2021 I had multiple times and on the less aggressive Sahara tires it had decent power in EV mode as long as you took it easy with the accelerations.

    Just on those curtain-airbags - of course I appreciate safety and all but as an owner of a Gladiator I am very happy the older models don’t have them - we are using those pillars and frames for attachments from molle-panels that span across the entire inline ceiling to attach radio mounts etc. point being - Wrangler and Gladiator have a certain use-case and any form of soft-washing makes these vehicles very inconvenient for their intended use case - generally from a “jeep-enthusiast” perspective the Wrangler 23 and Gladiator 24 are a step back - no molle panel anymore on the back of the front seats, the new infotainment is too large horizontally as it blocks mounts for other equipment, while making the air outlets in the middle too small and not adjustable enough, electric seats … meh… and then? Not catering for suburban mums would have been my preference…. I get why they did it but it makes me hang on to my 2022 model even longer…. on the interior review that you and Beth did - just some food for thought on the hard plastics - the cars that have the least longevity here in Australia are the so called german premium cars - their soft-touch material gets all mushy after a few years in the UV, while hard-wearing plastics have no issues whatsoever - that is before we even talk about driving without the roof on or getting all dusty and wet in-and-out of the vehicle when doing 4x4… again use case is something that should get some consideration before the criticism….I get both your points… but it simply doesn’t apply to these vehicles - there is actually a reason for that plastic - believe it or not… Cheerio! Keep it up!

    They are actually the rubicon’s wide d44 axles. And leather is useless in a vehicle where the top can come off and fry your rear in the sun. Nav should be standard however.

  • @anthonycangialosi9914
    @anthonycangialosi9914 7 месяцев назад

    In electric mode it will not kick in the engine until you’re above 75% power requested. Regular hybrid mode is even sooner. You also NEVER drive in hybrid mode without the electric engine. It’s ALWAYS helping the engine when accelerating. People think it will do engine only and it will not.

  • @DarkXenoGaming

    It’s also never dead. You need to do more research. It reserves 15% battery but shows you less the 1%. Just to basically tell you I have battery for hybrid mode only. And the 4cyl is never working alone. That’s just the real jeep mpg you’re seeing unless you stay on the highway alone.

    To manufacture each EV battery, you must process 25,000 pounds of brine for the lithium 30,000 pounds of ore for the cobalt 5,000 pounds of ore for the nickel, 25,000 pounds of ore for copper Diging up 500,000 pounds of the earth's crust For just - one - battery.

    My understanding was that the Willys trim was historically a stripped down model that was military-centric. If that's the case I do find it a bit humorous that it's been glammed up into a 4xe. This really seems to be aimed at folks who want to try out the EV craze with as little commitment to it as possible.

      What was incorrect? I'm always open to corrections! I agree that not plugging it in wasn't ideal, but I had no other option and again, I already reviewed one of these in 2021 and nothing has changed mechanically for the 4xe. I mostly got this vehicle to review the interior changes.

      I have had a few Jeeps over the years and currently have a Wrangler. For a fun to drive, extremely capable off roader, it just can't be beat. I also own a Toyota Land Cruiser. Is the Land Cruiser way more reliable? Absolutely. But when it comes to a more connected and fun to drive off road vehicle, I'll grab my Wrangler keys every time. Drop the top, lose the doors, hit a muddy trail and everyone is all smiles. And all the people that complain about on road manners and noise, it honestly isn't that bad. I grew up driving old Jeeps and beat up pickups so these new Jeeps seem amazing.
