I've had many Guinea pigs. Sadly when I was 5 I had a little plastic play pool that you could purchase at the dollar store. Since I loved my little piggy, named gabby at the time, and I always wanted her with me. I took her into my kiddie pool with me a held her like my little baby and her little bum got wet. Slowly I put her in the pool and luckily my pool was very shallow and she could touch. She walked around a bit but afterwards I felt extreme bad because of where I live it's cooler so we had to have her in the bathroom rapped up in a towel and a heater next to her. I felt so bad that I could have killed her. If a 5 year old has more common sense than an adult then there is something very wrong with this world.
I love how you can just stand up to people like that, it takes a real, strong person. I agree with you 100% I have two pigs myself and I love your videos and you are a great caretaker of your Guinea pigs🐹❤️
For anyone who does not yet know. Cavies originally came from South America, and their original habitat was actually at moderate to high altitude. IE about 6,000 to 15,000 feet. At that altitude water is always extremely cold and usually very fast flowing. Immersion in that for a human swimming kills in about 4-5 minutes from heat loss then drowning. For a Cavie I doubt they would survive 1 minute. So in the wild they would avoid a swimming situation as much as they would avoid predators. Even bathing them the water should be shallow enough for their nostrils to be above water when laying down so their whole head is clear when standing. IE about 1/2 inch deep.

I can't tell you how much it sickens me to see these videos, what I don't understand is why risk your Guinea pigs health and well being for your own selfish entertainment. I have made a couple of videos on this topic, but the abuse and threats I've had for campaigning against something that I believe to be animal abuse has been ridiculous! I've had to disable the comments on one due to the amount of personal attacks & death threats I received, it really breaks my heart to see these beautiful animals tortured this way. I will also regularly get people just read the title of my video and without actually watching it, will comment 'mine didn't drown' or 'I was watching them the whole time' I even had one say 'it makes my Guinea pig happy because she smiles when she swims'.. What! These owners should purchase a fish if they want a swimming pet, not a Guinea pig! I will fight against this fad until people listen, I'm glad you also feel so strongly about this x
It is really irritating when people have to gang up on others about stuff like this, especially when there really isn't another side to it that should be defended. I wish people would be polite about their arguments, at least then you could try to have an adult convo with them. I just had someone who must be butt hurt light up my nail clipping and picking up a guinea pig video, ranting about how everything I do is wrong in this video and in all my other videos. Just makes them look like such a fool, especially when they cannot form proper sentences to save their life lol. Blocking is an amazing thing haha.

I love how passionate you are about this. People are so uninformed and many choose to be ignorant, so I completely understand how you feel. I have a hamster and want to get guinea pigs once I get my own place with more space for pets. Watching your videos have allowed me to get well informed. I knew from owning my hamster that it should not be placed in water so naturally I assumed the same with guinea pigs. It is sad that people will put their own entertainment before the welfare of these animals.

I only ever put them in water to bathe and it’s low enough that they can easily walk around. You never bath a guinea pig that often, maybe once a year for short haired piggies, more often for long haired. If you keep them in a clean cage, there is no reason they need a bath that often.

I know this is a year later. I used to go to a small zoo that had a herd of guinea pigs of about 30 to 40 of them,well point is they were in open air enclosures surrounded by a mout of about three inches of water I asked the keeper won't they get out and she said nope they won't cross over water.! So no they don't do swimming.
I agree with the sentiment 100% but maybe not the tactic. People are all so easily offended by each other and in that upset choose to ignore the information being presented. More comments bring on more views, and so honestly flagging it or reporting it as animal cruelty would work faster to ensure less people see it. Also if you can't help but comment I feel like providing links to reliable sources giving the facts of the matter along with quotations from the links would maybe cause more people to listen, and more people to do their own research than a lengthy personal speech about animal cruelty.
I have flagged and reported many videos before, along with a bunch of others, only to find nothing happened to the video, it stayed up. So my personal way of being heard is posting a straight forward comment about why something isn't correct, no naming calling, no swearing, just to the point and stating facts. I found people commenting the same way made the poster take the video down, which in turn takes it away from people watching and being influenced by it. Also commenting on videos that do stay up, people can read the comments who are watching and decide for themselves what is right or wrong. People get butt hurt all the time, but that doesn't mean later on it doesn't weigh on their mind and give them something to think about. Everyone can do what works for them, takes all angles and people, to stand up for what they believe in, to make small changes :)

Admiral Ackbar people should learn before having piggies but unfortunately a lot of people buy pets to entertain. We choose to adopt animals and love and care for our pets and piggies their our kids and I'm no youngster I'm nearly 60. Respect ALL animals always
that's why BEFORE anyone gets an animal and even any breed of dog or cat, they need to research!! A lot of people don't which is why animal shelters are so full

I like to watch your “ranting” videos whenever someone bothers me with an insensitive rabbit joke because it’s so nice to hear others who feel the same way I do.. it disgusts me that so many people do not value small animals like they would a dog or cat. I understand why you care so much about them. Your not only living and loving your piggies, your influencing others to love their piggies correctly. I bought a really good size cage for my pigs bc of your cage size video. So you are promoting proper care for pigs.
I own four guineas currently, and I partially agree with your views. Every now and then, for example on very hot days, I will often let my guinea pigs bathe in a shallow bath. I make sure that it isn't too hot or too cold and that it's an okay depth for them to walk in. They have a chance to stand and have a rest when they want to, but cool down at the same time. They actually surprisingly enjoy it. If they didn't enjoy to bathe on hot days, I would simply not do it.
Goals i just adopted a week ago an ive been doing so much to make sure theyre always clean an theyre always comfy an i just love how you have the fleece all ready this is the exact same way i want to set up
Thank you for your advice. Once long time ago I gave then access to my bathtub and increased the water little by little to see if they would like to play with water. They didn't like it one bit (the water was not more than 1/4 of an inch) and I stopped right away. I haven't tried again but I'm glad that you made a video about this so more people will learn.

The only time a piggy should get wet is if they really need a bath to keep them healthy because their fur is matted or they have fleas. I'm getting two pups at the weekend! every time i give my guinea pigs a bath i make shore that that the shallow end is shallow enough for them to touch and walk around while having the deep end just barley enough so they can swim and my guinea pig sometimes do swim.

You are right!!! and I love you cages soooooo much! They should not put there sweet little piggies in the water where they do not want to be. If you give them a bath, don't try to drowned them, just put a little water in there so they can walk. I am with you 100 percent!

I totally agree with you when you say how terrifying it is for small animals to be in water. I have 2 dwarf bunnies who are spoiled rotten. they have a giant condo and they get alot of outside time. They are the love of my life and i hate seeing videos where bunnies or guinea pigs are swimming and they are struggling so much. It breaks my heart! Ive also seen a few documentaries on what Petco and PetSmart factories look like. They have so many helpless animals that die everyday. The staff members have no medical experiance and they operate on these animals and think its ok! These poor animals have no rights what so ever and I wish more people knew about this. Its so much better to adopt than buy from a pet store. Sorry about the rant. Im just so upset and think people should become more aware about animal rights. When I bathe my pigs, we have little plastic container with warm water, with about a half an inch of water (up to their legs) with a cloth on the bottom. The container is short enough for them to hop out and into the bathtub and be in the dry (on a cloth) and they can walk and just sit there with out moving. That is it. That's a bath.
I completely respect what you are saying. I am about to get Guinea pigs and I thought it was fine to let them swim in plain water so long as you kept your hands round them. This video has made me understand swimming. Despite this please don't swear I understand your anger but please don't swear! I love your videos and your piggies 💓
Chlorine is in normal tap water as well. I use filtered warm water from my shower head to give my piggy a rinse. Not just pools are unsafe with chemicals.

I fully agree with this video!I was getting sick of People who let there guinea pigs in a swimming pool or in deep water!! When i give my piggies a bath in Water that is 1-2 inches deep they get scared and freak out a little bit!!I cant even imagine how scared they would be in really deep water! Good point! Even some " swimming" dogs don't like it. We had a lab growing up that , strangely enough, HATED water.

My pig used to love walking about in a shallow dish of water that was like a small puddle. She could go in and out and drink. It was a treat for her.

GUINEA PIGS DO NOT AND DO NOT WANT TO SWIM!! 👏👏 I hate when I see videos like that, it makes my stomach turn and especially reading the comments on Zoella’s Swimming Guinea pig video it really made me sad. I only ever put them in water to bathe and it’s low enough that they can easily walk around. This is such an underrated topic that’s discussed and I hope more people can see this and hopefully never attempt this. Thank You for this wonderful video and wish you the best luck on getting these videos taken down.

should I clip my guinea pigs nails or not? and how often do I need to give them a bath cause they shed a lot of hair actually. and that actually scares me.
You have to clip them, they are forever growing and will curl under and cut into their foot.
You only bath them when needed, so maybe once a year.
I bath my pig once a week u should clean out the cage once a week bath when cage is Clem out so the then that clean for there clean cage
You never bath a guinea pig that often, maybe once a year for short haired piggies, more often for long haired. If you keep them in a clean cage, there is no reason they need a bath that often.

when you were talking about how scared they were i broke down crying. No pig or animal should have to panic like that and fear for their lives. Why someone would do this is BEYOND me. I know this is a year later. I used to go to a small zoo that had a herd of guinea pigs of about 30 to 40 of them,well point is they were in open air enclosures surrounded by a mout of about three inches of water I asked the keeper won't they get out and she said nope they won't cross over water.! So no they don't do swimming.
I agree with the sentiment 100% but maybe not the tactic. People are all so easily offended by each other and in that upset choose to ignore the information being presented. More comments bring on more views, and so honestly flagging it or reporting it as animal cruelty would work faster to ensure less people see it. Also if you can't help but comment I feel like providing links to reliable sources giving the facts of the matter along with quotations from the links would maybe cause more people to listen, and more people to do their own research than a lengthy personal speech about animal cruelty.
I have flagged and reported many videos before, along with a bunch of others, only to find nothing happened to the video, it stayed up. So my personal way of being heard is posting a straight forward comment about why something isn't correct, no naming calling, no swearing, just to the point and stating facts. I found people commenting the same way made the poster take the video down, which in turn takes it away from people watching and being influenced by it. Also commenting on videos that do stay up, people can read the comments who are watching and decide for themselves what is right or wrong. People get butt hurt all the time, but that doesn't mean later on it doesn't weigh on their mind and give them something to think about. Everyone can do what works for them, takes all angles and people, to stand up for what they believe in, to make small changes :)

I like to watch your “ranting” videos whenever someone bothers me with an insensitive rabbit joke because it’s so nice to hear others who feel the same way I do.. it disgusts me that so many people do not value small animals like they would a dog or cat. What I find entertaining about my pigs is watching them interact with each other and play.
I understand why you care so much about them. Your not only living and loving your piggies, your influencing others to love their piggies correctly. I bought a really good size cage for my pigs bc of your cage size video. So you are promoting proper care for pigs.
I own four guineas currently, and I partially agree with your views.
Every now and then, for example on very hot days, I will often let my guinea pigs bathe in a shallow bath. I make sure that it isn't too hot or too cold and that it's an okay depth for them to walk in. They have a chance to stand and have a rest when they want to, but cool down at the same time.
They actually surprisingly enjoy it. If they didn't enjoy to bathe on hot days, I would simply not do it.
Goals i just adopted a week ago an ive been doing so much to make sure theyre always clean an theyre always comfy an i just love how you have the fleece all ready this is the exact same way i want to set up
Thank you for your advice. Once long time ago I gave then access to my bathtub and increased the water little by little to see if they would like to play with water. They didn't like it one bit (the water was not more than 1/4 of an inch) and I stopped right away. I haven't tried again but I'm glad that you made a video about this so more people will learn.
I have been commenting swimming guinea pig videos on youtube saying that guinea pigs don't like to swim. Hope this helps. BTW love your channel!

The only time a piggy should get wet is if they really need a bath to keep them healthy because their fur is matted or they have fleas. I'm getting two pups at the weekend! My guinea pigs love swimming and I leave one side a little shallow to where they can stand and another side where they can swim but they still love it
every time i give my guinea pigs a bath i make shore that that the shallow end is shallow enough for them to touch and walk around while having the deep end just barley enough so they can swim and my guinea pig sometimes do swim.

You are right!!! and I love you cages soooooo much! They should not put there sweet little piggies in the water where they do not want to be. If you give them a bath, don't try to drowned them, just put a little water in there so they can walk. I am with you 100 percent!

I totally agree with you when you say how terrifying it is for small animals to be in water. I have 2 dwarf bunnies who are spoiled rotten. they have a giant condo and they get alot of outside time. They are the love of my life and i hate seeing videos where bunnies or guinea pigs are swimming and they are struggling so much. It breaks my heart! Ive also seen a few documentaries on what Petco and PetSmart factories look like. They have so many helpless animals that die everyday. The staff members have no medical experiance and they operate on these animals and think its ok! These poor animals have no rights what so ever and I wish more people knew about this. Its so much better to adopt than buy from a pet store. Sorry about the rant. Im just so upset and think people should become more aware about animal rights. When I bathe my pigs, we have little plastic container with warm water, with about a half an inch of water (up to their legs) with a cloth on the bottom. The container is short enough for them to hop out and into the bathtub and be in the dry (on a cloth) and they can walk and just sit there with out moving. That is it. That's a bath.
I completely respect what you are saying. I am about to get Guinea pigs and I thought it was fine to let them swim in plain water so long as you kept your hands round them. This video has made me understand swimming. Despite this please don't swear I understand your anger but please don't swear! I love your videos and your piggies 💓

Chlorine is in normal tap water as well. I use filtered warm water from my shower head to give my piggy a rinse. Not just pools are unsafe with chemicals.

I fully agree with this video!I was getting sick of People who let there guinea pigs in a swimming pool or in deep water!! When i give my piggies a bath in Water that is 1-2 inches deep they get scared and freak out a little bit!!I cant even imagine how scared they would be in really deep water!
