Hey girl... Just wanted to say that my piggies were jumping into hay bags as well so instead of hay piles I made a hay rack out of grids.. it was quit easy. two grids standing up for the feet...two grids for the back straight up... and two slanted in the front.. I tied them together with zip ties.. then put a piece of tubing where the back and the front meet to keep a gap.. zip tie some cardboard in the inside of the back grids and front grids to keep hay from falling out.. and you have it.. I wish I could send you pics of it to show you what it looks like because I dont know if im explaining it clearly enough. The pigs absolutely love it because with the front having a slant to it.. it almost acts as a cover for them to feel like they are not in the open.

I was wondering if you have ever used bedding instead of fleece? I've known you for a while, so i know you have been using fleece for a while now, but I'm just curious to know if you have used bedding?
Only time I had any bedding was for litter boxes in the very beginning but seemed like a big waste because they all went to the bathroom on the fleece too.
In my guinea pig cage I have a layer of canvas, on top of that I have newspaper, then a towel, then a layer of normal fleece from joaans would this work??? Pls reply right away

Hi Hi! I have two adopted pigs named Bucky Barnes and Captain America. Im planning on building them a two story cage with soft bedding on the bottom and fleece on the top and I'm wondering if you prefer Plexi Glass or Grids and zip ties, if I'm doing plexi glass I'm only doing it half ways up on the bottom, but I'm not sure. Its going to be a wood structure. Thanks!

Not sure if this might help, but one of my girls had the same bad habit as little miss Raisin. I changed the one hay bag out for two smaller ones with only one hole each. The smaller size made it look unappealing to jump into from the top and the one hole kept her from walking in and using it as a hammock. I've switched to these until my girls get a little older/bigger and so far so good! And bonus, no stinky hay piles! Hope that helps. Btw, as always, you have the CUTEST fleece! 😍 Who did you order the finding dory and woodland animals sets from?

My question is how often do you change fleece bedding, and when do you do a more thorough clean? I don't think I'll be getting more piggies for a while, but when I do, I'd like to look into using the kind of cage style I've seen you and a few others use.
Under Angus and Bullseye's cage , with the two grid high stand, do you find the need for support grids on the joins? I am upgrading my boys' cage, and adding a two grid high stand,during this summer and was wondering if I should purchase extra grids as support on the back and sides.
It is all done with zip ties and is sturdy. You might want to just get a table for their cage though, is a lot of grids to make the stand with grids all around, 2 high and across the top.
Hello I have a question one of my guinea pig's thumbs are sitting under the other fingers and it's happening to both paws. I wonder if it's a sign of arthritis and I should get it checked out or is it normal because sometimes it'll be without their thumb under their front paw. Please reply as quick as you can because I really need some help. Thanks 😊
Hope you can help me. I got a guinea pig last month. Mom sold it because kid didn't have time to take care of him. I made him a bigger home and made some fleece liners. I knew Milo needed a buddy so jumped at the chance to rescue another. Bandit was neglected in a small cage with another guinea pig and his brother was already adopted out. My problem is these two won't get along. I'm unsure how old either is but Milo has never been housed with another and he is the aggressor. Is there anyway to get them to bond?
Milo was with his first family for almost 6 months and he was bought from Petco. The lady who rescued and was looking for a home for Bandit had no idea about his age.
you can take either plexi glass or grids and seperate the cage into 2 so then each pig can still see and kind of interact with each other which is how i bonded my pigs when i had them, but make sure you check for signs of stress, bonding in this way can be stressful
Multi Animal Crazy that's how I have them separated now. How do I know if they are stressed? I'm covering grid with fleece at night to make sure they get good sleep. Bandit seems to wanna play with Milo while Milo wants to tear the grid down.
skinnypigs1 Thank you! That was a great site. I already messed up as I didn't keep them separate to see if either is sick so I have to keep an eye on that but it is a new habitat for both. After reading that I think the fighting was just Milo establishing dominance and I separated them too soon. First thing tomm I will try again in a nuetral spot and rearrange this habitat so it will be different again. Thank you very much!
Out of curiosity, do you ever have cuddle time with your piggies? Do your piggies like cuddles or being picked up? My guinea pigs love being cuddled and are very affectionate. It's interesting to see piggies who are tame but also don't enjoy cuddles as all the ones I've had have loved it.

When I was holding her cleaning her a bit, that was a nervous, anxious sound. I have a video on my FB page of me holding her on my lap petting her and that is a happy, content sound. They are similar but the one in this video she was just a bit more high pitch. It isn't anything concerning, just her saying she wants me to put her back down.
Hello there, another great video! I need your help/advice. Out of all of my pigs there's an elder boar who's currently on his own. I've booked an immediate appointment for the vets as lately he's been squeaking every time he's been pooping or peeing as well as that his poops seem weird shaped unlike usual and don't dry up like usual. What's your input on to what could be wrong with him? And do you know anything I could do as well as the vets to help him? He seems very distressed and I hate seeing my pigs in pain😢xo
Sounds like he either has a bladder stone or UTI. They should do an x-ray or ultrasound to rule out a bladder stone. Sounds like he will need antibiotics and pain medication (metacam is great). You will just have to wait though to see what they figure out, make sure to get an x-ray, that will show what is going on inside.
Is a 2by3 C&C cage big enough for 1 guinea pig? Also, have you ever had a problem with your guinea pigs jumping out, or into another piggies cage? My guinea pig climbs his cage but it's not a C&C cage, were going to build a C&C cage soon.

I need help! my piggies live in a hutch outside and dad wont let them live inside, this afternoon i went to feed my piggies their veggies, i opened the hutch lid and i saw a RAT sitting next to one of my piggies, it ran off after that! Have you guys got any advice on how to stop it from getting into the hutch??!!
Ok thx for the advice!!!!!💞 there are gaps between the hutch and the lid of the hutch! I have been seeing littler than normal poops in the hutch, possibly rat poops,I think my piggies may have made friends with it!

Brynn Dusbabek if you guinea pigs are on a full veg diet, meaning no pellets what so ever. And only hay, some forage here and there and veg then yes you can, but you want to give the guinea pigs about a month after you wean the pellets out of their diet, and if you feed them veggies only you would want to feed them about three to five times a day in incriminates of their veg. The reason why broccoli isn't recommended is because it causes gas when feeding with pellets. Pellets stay in the gi tract a lot longer (digestive system slow down kind) the broccoli would stay longer. Gas causing vegetables are a more fast-energy vegetables that need to be digested faster than other vegetables, that's why it isn't safe when given in a normal guinea pig diet.

I've tried farmers hay several times and whilst all my pigs are quite happy to eat it, I would find so much rubbish in it. Things like plastic and baling string. And bugs! 😫 Now I just stick to branded hay.

I'm not skinnypigs1 but I wanted to tell you that I use Gorgeous Guineas "Kind and Gentle" shampoo. I have all American Shorthairs. If you go to Gorgeous Guineas website they a chart explaining what type of shampoo they advise for various skin conditions. I only use the shampoo for bum baths. I've never had to do a full bath.

you should put bricks on the 1 by 2 pad so that the pigs can not get under there also it would help trim the nails

Yes I do cuddle, I just switch day to day who comes out. A lot of them don't really care to be picked up but are fine once you've got them.

I was just wondering how often you clean all their cages like this? I'm trying to get a steady schedule of changing my piggies cages.
Twice a week and in between I change beds, bed pads and 1by2 liners under their hay as needed, which sometimes is daily.
I haven’t seen any Chew toys in any of the cages is that because the skinny pigs can’t have them or something?

They are 14 inches high the grids, never had a pig jump out.

Is a 2by3 C&C cage big enough for 1 guinea pig? Also, have you ever had a problem with your guinea pigs jumping out, or into another piggies cage? My guinea pig climbs his cage but it's not a C&C cage, were going to build a C&C cage soon.
Lizzy 1029 you should have a friend for him, and a 2x4 is the minimum for two ginuea pigs, the bigger the better though.

I need help! my piggies live in a hutch outside and dad wont let them live inside, this afternoon i went to feed my piggies their veggies, i opened the hutch lid and i saw a RAT sitting next to one of my piggies, it ran off after that! Have you guys got any advice on how to stop it from getting into the hutch??!!
Chelsea Archer How did the rat get in? Maybe fix any holes that the hutch has first and check your piggies for bites in case an illness is passed
Ok thx for the advice!!!!!💞 there are gaps between the hutch and the lid of the hutch! I have been seeing littler than normal poops in the hutch, possibly rat poops,I think my piggies may have made friends with it!

Brynn Dusbabek if you guinea pigs are on a full veg diet, meaning no pellets what so ever. And only hay, some forage here and there and veg then yes you can, but you want to give the guinea pigs about a month after you wean the pellets out of their diet, and if you feed them veggies only you would want to feed them about three to five times a day in incriminates of their veg. The reason why broccoli isn't recommended is because it causes gas when feeding with pellets. Pellets stay in the gi tract a lot longer (digestive system slow down kind) the broccoli would stay longer. Gas causing vegetables are a more fast-energy vegetables that need to be digested faster than other vegetables, that's why it isn't safe when given in a normal guinea pig diet.

I've tried farmers hay several times and whilst all my pigs are quite happy to eat it, I would find so much rubbish in it. Things like plastic and baling string. And bugs! 😫 Now I just stick to branded hay.

Do you have a specific recommendation of a shampoo from Gorgeous Guineas? We have two American short hairs and one Abyssinian.
I'm not skinnypigs1 but I wanted to tell you that I use Gorgeous Guineas "Kind and Gentle" shampoo. I have all American Shorthairs. If you go to Gorgeous Guineas website they a chart explaining what type of shampoo they advise for various skin conditions.
I only use the shampoo for bum baths. I've never had to do a full bath.
Do you shake off your fleece outside or into a garbage?
I shake it outside and recently have shaken the majority of hay into a large garbage bag or just onto the lawn.
