Here is a fun mnemonic to help remember the three ( I, IV, and V) principal chords in the keys discussed: Key of F: "Frank Befriends Carl" (FBbC). Key of C : " Charlie Finds Girl" (CFG). Key of G: "George Can Dance" (GCD). Key of D. "Dan Goes Ape" (DGA). For keys of A and E, one might use "ADE" (think "lemonade") or "Eggs and Bacon" (EAB). These memory aids always helped me, and might be of help and interest to your learning audience. Great tutorial, Mike.
Thrilled to find these lessons. I am a pro pianist, but I have tried for years to learn guitar well enough to accompany myself singing my own comic songs, but really struggled. I dug my old ukulele out and find your lesson So helpful. Simplicity is the key, as you rightly point out and I am now determined to give the swinging thing another go. The world is ready for my original songs now and this is the way I'm going to do it! Thanks!
thank you!! you have the best videos of ukulele and I am a beginner they have helped me so much and I am more eager to learn more about this happy and great instrument!
I find the descriptions of attaining a clean chord very helpful having wide fingers, though B and Bflat, E and D are very awkward for me. Hooking my thumb across strings from 4th to 2nd strings works but that means I have to be quick when changing to some relative chords. It's all great fun... thanks for the very helpful instructions across all your videos.
Hi Mike, yoy the best ukulele teacher. Hope u can come to Singapore to open a school and i am deeply willing to help u. Singaporw has a huge market because Singaporw is an educational hub in Asia. Singapore beginner ukulele player Jo.
For many of the "strange" chords I come across, I can hardly hear the difference and wonder whether they really are needed. Or am I the only one with this "problem"? I have been following your videos and I think you are a great teacher. Many thanks for your generosity !
Hi Michael. Thanks for these video's! I am a 51 year old guitarist. Love the old rock n roll-70's-80's rock! My girlfriend just pulled out an ukulele from a closet. Cool! So I told her I will watch a you tube video to learn to tune and finger some chords. You were the first! (and only so far...lol) Obviously I caught on in a 'Snap'! Now I want to buy a Nice ukulele. What kind is that you are playing? How much can good ukulele's fetch$? I will be watching your video's and learning. Thanks Mike!!
This is one of the most helpful ukulele videos on RUclips! I understand explaining the major chords for each major key, and I am glad you explained the relative minor, but what is the importance of knowing the 7th chord? Why not just show the three major chords for each major key, plus relative minor? Is the reason based in music theory?
Hi, I am a ukulele enthusiast and sometimes I watch your videos and others as well. In your videos you showed an alternative chord sharp for D7 in the configuration of (2020). This configuration comprise of notes: A,F# & C which is a F#dim chord. Whilst for a D7 chord the notes should be A, D, F# & C. In the (2020) configuration clearly the 'D" note is missing. As you are an expert in this field I wouldn't presume you are wrong. Perhaps there is reason behind this? Can you please enlighten me?
A chord shape on the ukulele can be transferred to the guitar . Just count alphabetically five letters. The G chord on the uke (triangle) can be made on the guitar . The name of the chord is determined by counting alphabetically five letters,,, GABCD . (same triangle shape @ second and third frets) but the name is D chord on the guitar. Same rule apples going from guitar to ukulele but count alphabetically four letters,
Chords shapes on the uke are the same shapes as chords on the high four strings on the guitar. If you put a capo on your guitar at the fifth fret and play the four high strings you have the same notes as the ukulele...
~Miss you with all my heart...RIP...still watching & learning....
