In this episode of Quick Tips for Helix, I look at a parameter that nobody talks much about but can potentially have a great negative or positive outcome on our preset. The parameter is the Level control we have on Helix blocks. I hope you enjoy the video and the preset.

have been using level as a per snapshot volume boost for ages at the end of the signal chain, until recently when i got an extra expression pedal, and now use that with 0db in the heel position, and +3.5db on the toe position. this gives a great boost for solos! :)
Great video as always, I am a new owner of a Helix and have learned so much from your videos, oh and your playing is top notch.
Another Real good one! Short enough for me not to lose attention and Shock Full of valuable info !
Thank you and glad you enjoyed!
Yet another invaluable video! This can really really mess up our tone. (Edit: I am taking notes. Creating my Play List with tips!) Now, if I may, yet again: I just can't wrap my head around the Mode button on the Helix. It's like I can't figure out how to reconcile its behavior along with the settings found in Global Settings. For example, how I would go to use 8 or 10 snapshots but also switch to stomp, and how switching to stomp will relate (if it does) to the Stomp/Snapshot or Snapshot/Stomp back in Global Settings (trying to explain further: If I chose Stomp (top FS)/Snapshots(bottom FS) what then does the Mode button do? If I chose 10 Snapshot FS, what does the button do then and how it relates to the Stomp FS on top/Snapshot FS bottom configuration in this case? ) Did that make sense? I don't think so, hence why I am asking LOL Thanks again Dr Sadites!
I hope Line 6 will implement the db levels (input and output monitor) to their helix/stomp. I think this is the one thing line 6 is lacking compared to its competitors.
I don’t see a gain reduction meter for my comp. Is it cause I’m using a HXstomp?
Thanks, Jason! I know you've addressed this in a couple other videos but what final db level do you think a preset should be? I'm working on levelling all my presets and snapshots and am not terribly knowledgeable about how loud they should be.
My pleasure! I usually aim for around -18 LUFS using a loudness meter. Hope that helps :-)
@@JasonSadites perfect, thanks!
Much appreciated tips, I learn something new every video!!
My pleasure and so glad you enjoyed :-)
How can we determine which Blocks are Linear and which are Non-linear? I could not find a list identifying them. Thanks
Pretty much any compressor, amp block, preamp block, distortion pedal or anything with a headroom control will be non-linear. Hope that helps :-)
