  • I have been doing the palm fan a lot and wanted to come up with some other ways to get out of the trick so I came up with this.
    I've been experimenting with some variations of this too where you catch it in the standard open position instead of going into the basic fan.
    For this short I get into the palm fan using an Ice Pick Spin variation, if you want to see 2 more Ice Pick Spin variations, check out this short next: • Icepick Spin Intermedi...
    The balisong I am using is the Will Hirsch x Nabalis Vulp.

    I dont understand how to get the force behind when doing palm fan reverse 😂

    • @benshaminflips
      @benshaminflips  10 месяцев назад

      For the catch into the regular fan? You get most of the force behind it by catching the bali in such a way to continue the spin from the palm fan. You want to bend your wrist back and grab the handle in your fingertips, that way you can curl your fingers while moving your hand down at your wrist to continue the spin.

    Do any Bali song tricks require muscle in the hand?

    • @benshaminflips
      @benshaminflips  3 месяца назад

      Do you mean do balisong tricks require more hand strength than normal to do? I don't think most of them do, but ones where you use your pinky and ring finger by themselves probably require a bit more practice to get used to.

    Can suggest me a beginner knife to start with

    • @benshaminflips
      @benshaminflips  6 месяцев назад

      That’s great to hear you are looking to get a balisong! Sure, I can drop some links here of some balisongs I would recommend for a beginner that wants to get their first one.
      I’m going to start off with the ones that I have actually flipped myself, but I will also recommend ones that I have heard are very good.
      This one isn’t perfect, but it’s the cheapest one that is still available and I have personally flipped that I would recommend. It’s just under $30 at the time of writing this.
      www.amazon.com/KEEDAS-Integrated-Excellent-Beginners-Blue-Pink/dp/B0CKJ4HCM7/ref=sr_1_10?crid=1E0H2WSIA9XLJ&keywords=balisong&qid=1706488239&sprefix=balisong%2Caps%2C154&sr=8-10&th=1
      It uses bearings to let the handles spin smoothly, as opposed to just washers or bushings with washers, but I think the way it swings isn’t too far from how washer/bushing balis flip. If that doesn’t mean anything to you, that’s fine, because I don’t think it really matters to a complete beginner anyway, which is why I recommend it.
      It doesn’t come with anything in the box, but it really doesn’t need to, which is another reason why I like it. It’s very low maintenance, you’ll be able to just focus on flipping!
      This one can also be found on AliExpress, which is actually where I got mine and it was on sale for under $10. You can try and find it there, try using a reverse image search on the picture from the Amazon listing. This balisong is not named and sold on quite a few different listings, so I can’t speak to the quality control and I doubt there is any customer service with it.
      The next one I would recommend is the Vulp which is made by Nabalis. It was my first nicer, standard balisong experience, and it’s still in the entry level price range at $65. Although it isn’t as cheap as others on Amazon, I haven’t tried out many of them so I can’t say if I recommend them.
      www.amazon.com/Nabalis-Butterfly-Balisong-Unsharpened-Practicing/dp/B0C5J5MMCB/ref=sr_1_4?crid=2PZAXT4GDXDDD&keywords=nabalis%2Bvulp&qid=1706489509&sprefix=nabalis%2Bvulp%2Caps%2C132&sr=8-4&ufe=app_do%3Aamzn1.fos.d977788f-1483-4f76-90a3-786e4cdc8f10&th=1
      The Vulp isn’t perfect either, but if you want an entry into a pretty standard balisong experience, it’s a great option. It runs on bushings in the pivots and has everything you would need to maintain it. As someone that got a Vulp as one of my first balisongs and flipped it a *ton*, I have no problem recommending it to beginners!
      The Vulp is also nice because it’s on Amazon and you can get it off Nabalis.com which ships worldwide, I believe.
      Now for some that I haven’t personally flipped, but have heard good things about:
      At $45, the Nabalis Lightning is a great beginner option.
      www.amazon.com/dp/B0BR6T65K4/ref=twister_B0CB62HMGZ?_encoding=UTF8&th=1
      It’s from the same company that makes the Vulp and I’ve heard many good things about the Lightning. As to why it’s cheaper than the Vulp, it has a slightly different pivot system that has just washers instead of washers with bushings. If you’re just starting out, that isn’t super important to worry about anyway, I’ve heard it flips very well and I’m sure it will be more than acceptable to begin learning on.
      Same things apply here with it being available on Amazon and Nabalis.com.
      Once again, I have not flipped this one yet, but I have heard the LDY Orion v1.5 balisong trainer is an amazing deal at $75 and flips like things that are much more expensive. You could also get a live blade version at $85 if you want to start flipping with a sharp knife, but I would not recommend that. If you really want to eventually flip live blades, you can tape a live blade so it won’t cut you though. Use caution and your own discretion.
      LDY has their own website now that you can order it from:
      ldybalisong.net/products/orion-v1-5?variant=47082964156697
      One popular beginner option is the Squid Industries Squiddy-B. I do have that one, well the Squiddy-A which is basically a more expensive recolour, but I wouldn’t not recommend it as it’s plastic and much lighter. I think it’s a great addition to a collection, due to its safe, inconspicuous nature that will allow you to flip anywhere, in public, and even take it on an airplane, but it’s much lighter and feels like a different experience than all my other metal blade balisongs. If you do want to go for it, you totally can, as many people have started on it and think it's a great beginner option.
      What I would recommend starting on though, for only $30 more than a Squiddy-B, would be a Squiddy-AL, which is made from aluminum. I’ve heard lots of people say it’s great and while I haven’t personally used it, I think any beginner would be able to progress very far with just using it. It is rather expensive to start out on, but I thought it was worth mentioning to give you another option.
      www.squidindustries.co/products/squiddy-al-1
      One final thing I would say, is I think you can pick based on price and what you like the looks of. Of course if anything else I said made a certain option stand out to you, you can let that help you decide, but the bottom line is, don’t get caught up in the technicalities of the designs, just pick something you like and that is in your budget!

      It was pretty difficult to learn for me! I learned it one way where you roll the bali between the thumb and index, but now I mostly do it where the spin comes just from the momentum of the handle and the rotation of the wrist.
      Now that I have it down though, I find myself doing it *all the time.* Maybe too much to where it feels stale😅 But instead of trying to do it less, I figured I would just come up with other ways to get out of it and that is how I came up with this.
