Ranjani and Gayatri, the supremely gifted Carnatic vocalist duo gave their first performance on Bangladeshi soil on the fourth night of the Bengal Classical Music Fest, and became instant sweethearts of the Dhaka audience with their melodious performance. Carnatic vocalist-duo Ranjani and Gayatri rendered six recitals including nattai-saraswati, raga pantuvarali, raga mukhari, raga khamaj and "Vithoba chala mandirat" in raga maru bihag. Ranjani and Gayatri said something very meaningful, “When you have wealth, you have many friends, when there is no money, friends leave you”. Ghatam was a simple earthen pot, but the way it was played was simply mind blowing.

The Bengal Classical Music Festival organised by Bengal Foundation.The Bengal Classical Music Festival, an initiative of Bengal Foundation’s Music Programme, is the world’s largest classical music festival in terms of the number of performers on a single stage, audience capacity and duration. The Foundation introduced the Classical Music Festival back in 2012.

Ranjani and Gayatri are one of the rare few who have achieved enduring success in both violin and vocal music. After more than a decade as successful violinists of high calibre, the sisters' foray into vocal music has brought them instant recognition and wide acclaim.
Ranjani and Gayatri began their music career as violin duet artistes even before they reached their teens. Through their intense training, command over the violin and fine artistry, they quickly established themselves as top-class violinists of international repute. The sisters started giving vocal concerts since 1997, and within barely three years, have won high praise from discerning critics and music lovers all over the globe. Their music, imbued with a deep and abiding classicism, has been described as an exhilarating blend of vitality, melody and emotion. Endowed with strong and pliant voices, the sisters have a striking style of their own, which has won the hearts of the traditionalist and the lay rasika at once.
Ranjani and Gayatri owe their rich musical heritage to the focussed and high-level training received from their gurus - Sangita Bhooshanam TS Krishnaswami for violin and Sangeeta Kala Acharya Sri PS Narayanaswamy for vocal. They had their initial vocal training from their mother Smt. Meenakshi Balasubramaniam, from whom they still continue to learn.
Recent awards include the Kalki Krishnamurthy Memorial Award awarded by the Kalki Trust and the prestigious National Eminence Award given by the Shanmukhananda Sabha, Mumbai in the year 2004.

I think the word
'excellent ' is rather insufficient to admire the beautiful performance.
It is between the quick and efficient fingers of Sai, and chandru Sirs and Charu madam on one hand and the sweetest voices of RaGa Madams on the other.
And, who does finally excel? None, because everybody simply excels everybody. The result is, we are completely mesmerized.
The clever agenda of the sisters for their new audience has achieved the very purpose of stealing their hearts.
The dress mode also adds some more colours to the performance, in the days someone takes pride in coming in lungi on the stage to perform.
The ambiance in and around the stage is quiet
pleasing.
Last but not the least is the excellent English of the younger sister.
I am blessed to have stumbled upon this video today, when I was surfing 'RUclips' for carnatic concerts.

The Vocal Concert of 2016 for Bengal Classic Music Festival by both
the Sisters of Smt. Ranjani and Smt. Gayathri, duo was perchance noticed by me
from the streaming through you tube and it was one concert that as always
with the Sisters a grand and nice one. It was expertly blessed with very nice
acoustic arrangement by the organisers. The recording was marvelous.
As always the Sisters did a standout performance. The experts on
Violin Smt. Charumathi Raghuraman, Shri. Sai Giridhar on Mridhangham,
and by Shri. Chandrasekar were as always very good in their performance
and the whole concert was too good for any adjectives to be affixed by any
rasikas, and would rate as one of the very best of the troupe. Bengal Association
must be really proud to heave sponsored this event for the benefit of the audience
in the world of Carnatic music. Being an old man of 85 years, I feel gratified in
having had the opportunity to have witnessed yet another performance that is
a stand out to say the least.
