These guys need to really consider opening up where sears used to be and get a big company in like Dave N Busters. Im sure all of the Ventura, Oxnard, SB, somewhat Cam residents would love to save some dough on gas. I remember coming here as a kid and the Disney Store was a thing, Hot Dog On A Stick, and just about every store was rented out. Its so sad to see how it has changed over the years....
Is Dave & Busters currently expanding? If not, it makes zero financial sense for them to go to a dying mall. And if a large tenant wanted the space and felt they'd turn a profit at this mall, they'd be there. Face it, like other malls it's days are numbered.
@@G0ZERIAN Believe it or not, even though the mall may be dying it still has its seasons of being packed still. With winter coming up, and 3 holidays in a row, it would make sense honestly to have it open during these times. Ventura really doesn’t have a well known arcade other than Golf N Stuff which focuses more on golf, and Mobys On Main which is a fun little place to spend for a hour.
To my mother who in the old days, we used to go from mall to mall all over California, selling Paintball & comedy club tickets. For over 30 years, WE MADE SO MUCH MONEY at these malls INCLUDING THIS MALL. I still remember you & I walking downstairs & we were surrounded by SO MANY PEOPLE. The malls were bustling with people in those days & we were happy because we both were good salesmen & we both had a good career. Those days are gone & now you, MY BEST FRIEND OF FRIENDS, & you are also gone. I love you mom & thank you for always being at my side. . .
There is never anyone in the mall anymore except around Christmas and even then it's just Macy's, the Vans store, and Old Navy. Everything else is pretty much closed up now. They used to have that train for kids on the 2nd floor but even that is gone.
Carrousels are so rare these days, even the newly manufactured ones are hard to find unless you're at a fair, so it's nice to see one out in a mall safe from the rain and elements.
@@DaKeithCody From what I've heard, they don't have rights to the control board yet but they are planning on getting it eventually. That would be awesome to see it working finally.
This used to be the mall in Ventura county, now it's on the bottom of the food scale. It's very sad what happened to Ventura it's a hot mess. People go to Riverpark, the Camarillo Outlets or the Oaks
Did you walk the mall on Monday morning when it first opened? It is not super busy during the week but it is not this empty on the weekends it is quite busy.
Dude I'm here all the time and it's always empty and struggling dude I used to work at the mall and it sucked! I heard they are going to destroy this mall and make it like The Collection... Man I miss when the mall had the Disney Store, Build-a-Bear and other cool stores!
This mall was originally built in the 1960’s I believe as a single story outdoor center, with a three-story Broadway (now Macy’s) and JC Penney (now Target). It was then covered with a tension fabric roof structure in the early 80’s?, then it was rebuilt in its current two-floor configuration in the early 1990’s. The original interior of the current two-floor mall was much nicer than the current pseudo faux Spanish style interior, that is totally out of character with the building. If this mall continues to decline more than it has already, the site, which is prime real estate in Ventura, could be transformed into a mixed-use center incorporating housing, offices, retail, food service and entertainment. There are also other retail and restaurant buildings around the outside perimeter of main mall, some are still in business while others have been shuttered and left to rot. A complete redevelopment of this area would once again bring life back to this once somewhat thriving mall.
I worked in this mall in 2001. Sears was open. Robinsons May was open (now Target). It was good. The financial crisis of 2008 hurt. When the Oaks in TO was renovated to include Nordstrom this hurt this mall too.
I moved to Ventura last year but I went to this mall, only once when I had an off day and decided to check it out and yeah I definitely felt the emptiness and asked an employee in American Eagle it it was only like that due to it being a Tuesday afternoon, and that wasn’t the case.
I remember this mall when it was open air in the 70's. The Broadway, JCPenney's, Thrifty drug, Vons, Loops Cafeteria, Kaiser's, Warehouse records, Woolworths, Millers Outpost, Walden books, Kimos, I remember the Christmas Displays they had throughout the mall with robotic elves making toys. So sad to see this in my hometown . Online sales and Amazon is killing brick and mortar retail.
it used to be a lot more packed before covid. people got used to shopping online and a lot of the more popular stores shut down. it’s usually busier than this though i’m guessing you went on a weekday when a lot of people are working or at school. still sad to see how empty it is though.
Oh look my place of emplyment, they went everywhere but there at GameStop. Just know this mall is NOT dead, they just fimled this all before the mall even opened up, obviously.
The whole county in general is a snooze fest. This mall’s mundanely rotting presence suits Ventura perfectly. Moved from San Diego and CHRIST! What do you people even do here!? Oxnard’s hardcore scene is pretty dope tho ngl

Just makes me sad man, because I remember when this mall was really active roughly a decade ago and seeing it in its current state now.
Pandemic killed everything. Vote Trump
It feels so weird watching this 'cause I've been to that mall multiple times

Thanks for sharing this! Sad all malls are in this state or worse. But I remember the good days at this mall so much nostalgia while watching.

I remember it being a single-story outdoor canter/mall, and then the fabric roof.
Back in the early 2000 I worked at Sam goodys. 😂
JC Penney is still there. It was Robinsons May that used to occupy the current Target space
I get my phone fixed, grab CPK, hit Old Navy… like once per year.
Used to be busy!

How long did you work there for

I remember this was the spot to hang out back in 2018-2019 with my shuffle crew back in the day was cool going to the mall now it’s so dead
it's very sad seeing our malls half empty like this...thanks for sharing!
loving this channel, these videos are relaxing in a weird way 💯💯💯💯💯💯

the amount of times ive been to this mall..
DUDE ME TOO
@@awkwardfreakinperson7936 u live in ventura too?
It's crazy how the Centerpoint Mall in Oxnard is busier than this place, thanks to Walmart. I worked here in 2005 and it was the hot spot.
I remember going to the hot topic in this mall and being disappointed when it was 90% anime

Anyone remember when Payless used to be here? That place was always busy
oh yeah Payless was very popular back then in all the malls...most of them are gone now...
Been there many times, I saw it during covid, scary dead.
Round 1 would single-handedly save this mall. Also, I put that Smash poster on display at Game World! =] (2:06 mark)
NOT A STRUGGLING MALL HOW DARE U FHATS MY FAV MALL
You should go on a Saturday or Sunday
When is it more crowded?
@@AndesImports yea
Ikr. I feel like they probably went there at 10:30 am on a Tuesday.
It’s definitely crowded on the weekends .
I worked here for years and it was packed and live near now, Saturday and Sundays are still dead in comparison unless you are in Target.
Oh look my place of emplyment, they went everywhere but there at GameStop. Just know this mall is NOT dead, they just fimled this all before the mall even opened up, obviously.
Amazon and online shopping caused this

Oxnard’s hardcore scene is pretty dope tho ngl
this is the mall I go to
It’s been struggling for more than a decade 🤣🤣
Everyone's at Starbucks and Goodwills
The old mall was better with Sam Goody and the Gold mine . Good times
Nothing like a pandemic to close down the economy!😢
To be fair, it was dying long before that.
😩
What a complete waste of 10 minutes. Just walking around the inside of the mall, nothing spoken and the camera bouncing with each step.
It’s that boring inside, so I don’t know what you expected. 😂
