Micah Christenson hops on the pod this week, with the new and improved, freshly manscaped Out Of System Boys. TBH the title doesn't even cover a fourth of the things that were discussed on the podcast and we couldn't be happier to listen to the great Micah Christenson speak. Wonder what family life is like overseas? Wonder which country he prefers playing in more: Italy or Russia? What's Russia like? What it ACTUALLY means to be Hawaiian vs be from Hawaii? What does he work on in practice to get better? All and more is answered on this weeks episode of If You Can't Handle The Heat

christenson is such a good player, he's an excellent setter (one of the bests) and as effective as a hitter, great vision of game, i can't find the words to describe how much i admire him as a player even if a try to. I'm watching the russian league for the first time this year and after so much time in italy has been so interesting see him play with different players and keep the highest level of skills
    great episode

Hey guys, again another great podcast!
Just wanted to mention the 9man Episode on Spotify is labeled incorrectly and it's actually the recent Erik Shoji episode. I recommend to fix that!

I think liability is a big part of being an ambassador for any group of people. You can play volleyball for UH, travel the country misrepresenting Hawaiian culture and values for 4 years, and then dip out no worse for wear. Not the case if your family has lived there for several generations and you have deep roots in the community

I think you may have offended my brother, Chad, LoL! We do have Hawaiian blood in our line - if the last name throws you off, it's cuz our dad was Hanai - an cultural tradition where our dad was given to another family for the purpose of caring for them when they get too old to care for themselves. He took on the last name of his "adoptive" family so with it being German, that can throw anyone off who doesn't know.

Ow, this is a great podcast featuring "The Micah Christenson". His setting skill is so crazy, very talented and versatile . He is perfect in any team he play, given his ability to spike using both of his hands. He's a dangerous Setter.
USA Men's Volleyball fun here watching all the way from the Philippines!!!

Question regarding the Hawai'i segment. Not to be insensitive, but more so as a question to potentially remove the confusion/conflation of the word Hawaiian as indigineous peoples of Hawaii and those who "live or are from Hawaii." Why not establish some vernacular similar to New Zealand where they have the Maori as reference to inidigineous New Zealand and Kiwi as people from New Zealand? I understand the amount of work it would take for the adoption of this, but just curious.

Ok honestly I don’t understand how anyone would not know that Hawaii has native people and that someone can be Hawaiian. If there are native Americans, all the peoples of Asia, Africa , and Europe how could it not be obvious that there would be native people there? Not to mention in many of my history classes throughout school there is brief mention of how Europeans discovered the island and the plantations that were set up there. It was only like a paragraph in my books so I guess people could have missed out on that part because of the education system they grew up in. However it still seems like common sense… I don’t know maybe people don’t think about those things.

I like Micah and know he's super competitive but he talks like it's a given that he'll be in two more Olympics. Nothing is guaranteed (just ask Lauren Carlini). The men played horribly in Tokyo. Like the rest of the team, Micah didn't serve well and his sets to the middles were really off. I would like to see more humility from him re: USA volleyball.
