Steven Tyler was the person that inspired me as a child to start playing harmonica.
This is why Pink won a Grammy.
It's fantastic! It's very exciting! Could you please tell us about Robert Plant's solo in "Nobody's fault but mine" by Led Zeppelin. Thank you so much, maestro!
I'll check it out!
Harmonica was the first instrument I ever started playing and it was because of Tyler. I learned by mimicking him and the songs. I'm not great by any means, but it's fun. Fun fact, I did catch Steven's harmonica at a show after he played it during "Cryin". Someone immediately asked me if they could smell it, so there's that. 🤣
Thanks Tomlin. Well Done. Huey Lewis is Rock artist whose Harp playing is underrated. He would be a good one to review.
Yes indeed! I would like to know what Tomlin makes of Workin' for a livin'.
Thanks for watching! Don’t forget to ‘Subscribe’ and turn on notifications to never miss another Harmonica video. :-)
Bruce Springsteen plays a whole lot of Harmonica. Could you do one of his riffs etc. Several per video maybe.. THE RIVER intro+solo. NABRASKA and The Ghost of Tom Joad I Think have some longer parts of Harmonica
That was great: at the same time informing and entertaining! Please do more :)
Very instructive. Looking forward to more of these!
That was very enjoyable , hope to see more like this, Thanks Tom
Fun video. Look forward to seeing more in the future
Do more of these! Great stuff - makes it fun to listen a little harder after you explain what is going on. Thank you.
This is awesome many thanks for sharing Tom! It is very inspiring to hear all type of players in various styles of music!
Your comments are absolutely fantastic! Keep it up my friend!
Loved it, an honest in depth analysis! Never knew learning about music could be so interesting.
This is great to help us learn as well. It highlights some really good playing and what makes it so good. Nice!
More of these please - good fun!
Great bit of playing, keep them coming!
Thank you 😊 very cool learning about and appreciating how useful harmonica can be adding such spice to music 🎶 ♥️
I found this really interesting - thank you - and a great idea to talk about different harmonica playing techniques. More please!
This was different! Thanks! Check out Steven playing One Way Street (live in Japan), or Big Ten Inch, Stop Messing Around, and Fever.
The thing about these 60s and 70s singers is they didn't want to be up there doing nothing but singing. So they picked up the harmonica.
I like it Tomlin! As one of your beginner students your analysis helps me understand what you have taught me in a deeper way. Keep ‘‘em coming!
This is very good stuff and very interessting, so i really want to see more of this too!! 💪
Wow! This has/is teaching me to not only hear, but to listen.
More please.
I love this video, this actually helped me realize why i can't get the triple notes section correctly, never realized he plays them not as a triplet but as a quartet of notes, gonna make sure to have that in mind next i play this one. Hope to see more of this kind.
Thanks for your time Tomlin 🙏 😊
Tomlin. This video discussing, personal critiquing of players is a great idea. This was enjoyable and a learning video. Also, adding in your playing examples is awesome . Hope to see more of this.
Lastly, would be a nice adjunct to this type of video if you add your playing tabs music for the examples played, discussed. Either as a download link or a part 2 video.
Double thumbs up for you on this idea. 👍👍.
PS. Steven Tyler was a great choice also. 😁.
This was great, please do more. This was inspiring, it showed what you need to know to be a good harmonica player. Thanks Tomlin
Thanks, will do!
Great idea look forward to what you come up with 😊
This is great - hearing the critique of harp played in contemporary rock is very encouraging - suspect you will receive a lot of comments for encores
Definitely do more. Thank you.
That was awesome. I luv Aerosmith and the harp made it that much better thanks for everything
Amazing topic and lots to learn there.
Heart of Gold - Neil Young 💛
Hey Tomlin, thanks for sharing! Singers like Steven Tyler, and Mick Jagger are actually very underrated on the harp!!! That’s why there legend as performers is what it is!!!
Great idea to show us the "secrets" of the famous harmonica-players. Thanks, Tomlin and get it on.
Nice video and great choice picking Mr. Tyler for your first analysis. An underrated harmonica talent that would not have been an obvious choice for many - thanks!
Steven tyler is fantastic on the harp would love to see one of these videos with a live performance of Big Ten Inch or Cryin'!
Love Aerosmith, love Pink and am in total agreement with your comments Tomlin!… Steven Tyler rocks on harp 👍🏼
I've been a big Aerosmith fan for many years - Tyler plays a pretty nice intro on Hangman Jury too, although not as technical (Even I can play it!!) - Thanks for this Tomlin - Looking forward to hearing you reacting to some other great tunes.
ruclips.net/video/bFgluyS5w3I/видео.html Hangmans Jury Steven Tyler rocks the harp
It was great! Please do more.
Hi Tomlin, this is the perfect way to connect good explanations what's going on in detail with your absolute enthusiasm for music. PLEASE continue! Maybe something from Mr. Jagger sooner or later? 🙏
Love this. Not only did it increase my respect for Steven Tyler, but I learned a bit more about what makes for a great harmonica performance. Thanks, Tomlin.
Excellent. Would love to see more reaction vids.
Cool, Very Helpful Listening To Your Explanation On Steven Tyler.
Good choice! Steve has a number of others he plays well in. Followed Steve's early blues work before he and he boys went rock. Fun to watch his skill progress over the years. I think you should do more of these type videos with the breakdown of certain licks and riffs. So many artists out there, hard to choose who and what. Maybe a little Magic Mike?
Great teaching tool! Please do more.
Great perspective. Thanks You.
I watch at least 2 singing reaction videos every week and I for sure am not a singer!
Although, I AM a harmonica player so when I saw in your email you had put one out for harp I watched it straight away and it is AWESOME!! Thanks Tomlin!
And, Oh my God,
I hope that you will consider reviewing "This is the Day" (Official Video) by The The. It's a live video I'm not sure who the harp player is although you may recognize him. Thanks again!! :)
Hello Tomlin, very good video, I think this new content is very nice!
Hi Tomlin, I liked the concept and also your first choice of this song. Was a lot of fun and I learned a lot.
Yes, more please Tomlin.
Yes, please! This was great fun to listen to and to get your reaction. As you observed, lots of times a lead singer isn't doing anything very technical on the harmonica. Billy Joel's harp riff on "Piano Man" compliments the song beautifully but could be taught to a beginner in 15 minutes.
I'd love to hear your reaction to Mickey Raphael's solo on "Georgia on my Mind" by Willie Nelson from his "Stardust" album. It's the reason I was driven to enroll in your school.
I enjoyed that very much. Keep it up.
Yes I liked that, please do more.!
Tooo good...what superb talent
Enjoyed this
Cool and colorful player! Thank you🤗
I think this is a great idea, because it really helps the learner understand how harmonica players can combine techniques to comp different styles of music. It also makes me want to emulate the techniques (couldn't help but get out my harmonica and try that 16th note phrase beginning with the 3-draw whole step bend).
Tomlin, Hearing your reaction is fantastic!!!! Listening to your comments/reaction was interesting and I learned a lot!!!!
Glad you enjoyed!
Nice work, I look forward to more. Mixing up the genres would also be good. I always loved Clint Black - Put Yourself in My Shoes
This was great, would love to see a video on Taj Mahal’s Leaving Trunk!
Excellent video
Hey Tomlin, sceptical when I heard your description of what you planned. However watch d the video (cos your stuff is usually very cool) and thoroughly enjoyed your commentary.
How about Undercover Hippy, Boyfriend. Some interesting harp on that, simple but effective. Thanks
More!
Great idea Tomlin, try a few more video dissections on maybe some old Van Morrison or Stones work. Cheers mate.
Steven also plays a harmonica solo live in Cryin and Stop Messin Around while Joe Perry sings. Those would be great to check out
Tomlin. I enjoyed this video clip/analysis of Stephen Tyler. I like your observations, the major pentatonic right out of the gate, the 4 draw bend lick etc. The moment where Stephen seems to warble back and forth with his chromatica I believe but I think you can get the same effect on a simple 10 holed diatonic. I particularly like the point you mention about Stephen singing through the Harmonica. I would love to hear more. Ken
Great. I liked the very clear explanation.Thanks.
You are welcome!
😁👍, Thanks Tomlin excellent 👏
Nice one again thx Tomlin (Edgar)
thank you! 😊❤️
Interesting analysis! Made me notice things in that simple little harp intro I wouldn't have thought about otherwise! Nice work, Tomlin! On a side note - would you tell about the cool wooden harp rack behind you? I NEED one of those!
This was excellent, your explanation of what Steve was doing was very helpful. One very small criticism, when you were explaining what he was playing , showing the tabs may have been helpful.
But that’s just me being fussy 🙂
Great stuff Tomlin - very informative as usual. I would love to hear your thoughts on Dave Blight's playing with Cold Chisel on Khe Sahn (bit of a cultural institution here in Australia).
Very nice video.
I love the album Aerosmith [1990] - MTV Unplugged, especially the song Big 10 Inch
Enjoyed it, Tonlin. Thanks. He's puckering all of this, isn't he?
I think so - hard to tell though. He could be tongue-blocking without using any obvious tongue-blocked techniques.
@@TomlinHarmonica So I guess I can construe from your answer that that could be done with either technique.
I enjoyed this! Would love to see more. Anything by Dr Feelgood, would be great. Maybe start with "Roxette"
Awesome video. I would love you to do a Bob Dylan or Neil Young song. Lots of people associate them with the harmonica, but they weren't actually that strong at the instrument. It made great accompaniment to their music though and I'm not trying to bash their playing
Steven Tyler is cool I like how he plays.Hey Tomlin can you do actors I saw Bruce Willis playing n I was pretty impressed that will be a treat!
Very good! Would like to see more of this type of critique.....maybe Robert Plant and Led Zeppelin, etc
I enjoyed this.
I agree with you Tomlin, Mick has been a good harp player in a lot of their songs over the years.
Thank You for the analysis. Would be interesting to hear your reaction to Aerosmith's, Hangman Jury harmonica intro.
Love this concept, Tomlin...and a great first song choice! I'd be interested in your comments about the harmonica solo in the Doobie Brothers' Long Train Runnin'. Also, on a very different note, I'd be interested in your thoughts on the Rolling Stones' Midnight Rambler from the Let It Bleed album. The harmonica seems pretty basic but it is integral to the song.
I enjoyed this review. Please review some others, Jack Bruce comes to mind from Cream. (Spoonful, Crossroads, etc.)
Great stuff Tomlin. How about Hurry on Sundown by Hawkwind?
Nice video! Have you heard the harmonica solo in Deuces are Wild? You should talk about it, it’s great!
Suggestion for your next 'react': Bob Dylan
Really good stuff! Hope you are able to continue with many more reactions. How about Johnny Cash playing the harps on his cover of "Orange Blossom Special"?
Great pointers by teacher,
Steven has a harmonica with him at all times
Sweet. Braaahhvo!
cool video man!
Very cool!
Kudos to all harmonica players. He has some ok chops. I guess though I’m more accustomed to listening to people like you, Ronnie Shellist, Will W, Jason R, etc. For non-primary harp players, give me Jack Bruce on Train Time - just for the energy and passion. How about Ray Jackson’s harp on We Can Swing Together with Lindisfarne? Great playing there.
Great format, taking a look at the harp in a "non-harp" song and a "non-harp" artist. There are a lot of pieces of harp in other genres of music and thus a lot of unknown harp "players" that are not covered in any discussion of harmonica. I would love to see a more detailed breakdown of exactly what the player is doing but the analysis of their skill level is great. Also, as a member of Tomlin's school...if you're not, then you should check into it.....has greatly accelerated my Harpin'!
Great synopsis of Steven Tyler's playing
That was great thanks. Please look into the Aerosmith song "Hangman Jury" you will love how Steven Tyler plays the harmonica on this song.
Yeah I would love to hear you do Robert plant's nobody fault but mine
Thank you
awesome video.please you must check king gizzard and the lizard wizard.these guys are killing it,and have many killer harmonica licks though
