It is seriously worth feeding the baby brine shrimp some praziquantel and then feed them to the mandarins. Most mandarins die from intestinal worm infections in captivity and not from a lack of food like most believe. It is not recommended to treat the water, rather to directly treat the brine shrimp then feed the medicated shrimp to the fish, need to feed 2 days in a row and repeat every 4 days for 3 weeks. You should do the same for angel fish.
I love this tank, keep 'em in the quarantine tank. It looks like heaven with all that food abundant and not having to compete with anyone. Those are happily fed mandarins. I just wish I could get a filter pump in there, while the tank is half filled.
Great to see! I'm planning on getting a mandarine goby pair and just grabbed some equipment. I really Enjoy your content. I need more tips and tricks on a variety of easy ways to harvest and grow goby foods. Keep up the great videos
Only just come across your channel and I love the videos! They are so crisp and informative, I personally love your love for dragonets! Also awesome view you have? Where do you live can I ask?
So glad to see new fishes and this time going with the mandarin pair first. I lost all of my fishes a few months ago too and now though I can see which fish I want and add them accordingly to their behavior. My yellow goby was first with his partner, the shrimp and now I just added my spot tail blenny. Next will be a royal gramma. Do you have an idea what you will add later?
Sorry for your lost Garry and nice selection of fish! I have a few fishes in mind and I am definitely going with a different fish this time 😄 Something uncommon and hard to keep
Another great video. Out of curiosity, couldn’t you have added more water to your quarantine to reduce the frequency of your water changes? And did you acclimate them again when moving to main? Or just dump them in?
Thanks Matt! Since mandarin don't swim high up in the water column and if I have too much water, the baby brine shrimp will all swim to the top and the mandarin won't be able to catch it. Hence why I keep it slightly lower :) I would definitely acclimate the fish again when moving to main just to make sure it's a smooth transition.
Well that makes a lot of sense :) thanks for replying! Cheers from the states, I visited Australia once and badly miss it. If it wasn’t so far from fam, I would have moved there.
Clementine and imperial.. types of mandarins.. loving your content and editing... great stuff.. just be mindful where you put white text, because it was very difficult to read at times..
I usually start by giving them frozen lobster eggs/copepods and then move on to frozen brine shrimps. It'll take some time for them to accept frozen food but once they do, it becomes so much easier to keep them healthy and fat. All the best with your new dragonet :)
Unfortunately, Today I lost my Sleeper Striped Goby which I'm heartbroken about. I am going to replace him with another, but I also want to get into Mandarin keeping. I just don't know what I prefer, A green, blue or spotted. Thoughts? (You're DIY hatchery for brine and pods has helped me out heaps)
Sorry for your loss mate! I feel ya. I would start with the captive-bred ones if possible. Higher chance of success keeping them rather than the wild-caught ones. The spotted ones in my opinion seems to accept frozen foods quicker than the green ones.
Um question how are you quaretining a mandarin the copper will kill the brine shrimp was wondering how to keep them from starving as the copper will kill there food I didn't see anything besides a video of the fish no info
It was very sad when last time u lost ur blue mandarin baby peanut after adding a velvet effected spotted mandarin , besides a bangaii Cardinals and a blenny . Hope these guys will thrive you your system .
My tank is 5 months old It's a 90 gallon system I have a dream to keep a blue Mandarin after the tank will become 1 year old There are lots of pods in my tank 😎 But I want to wait more time .. I wants to the pods population to explode in my tank . Then may be I can add a Mandarin .I also want to acclimate them to eat otyer frozen foods 😎
Yeah! Especially the newly hatched ones (1-2 days old) as they only contain yolk which is full of protein whereas pods have a hard shell that takes a bit more time to digest 🙂
That will depend on the type of fish as some fish are more sensitive to medication than others. I would suggest checking humble.fish/ They have a pretty good information on what medication to use on what fish. :)
It's not so much about the tank size but the food availability. Since most of them only eat live pods, many people suggests to keep them in a tank of at least 120 gallon per mandarin. To keep them in a smaller tank say a 30 gallon, you'll need to culture or dose pods very often (every 2-3 days) as well as training them to eat frozen foods/ pellets. Because of this, it's better to get a captive-bred ones as they've already been trained to eat frozen food/ pellets.
Mustang & Sally? great video

Hi, what kind of white worms are this and can you show how to breed them please?
Sure! Video coming soon :D
This video is perfect! How long do you quarantaine them?
I quarantined them for 30 days 😁
Hey mate. Just picked up a wild caught me dragonet. Aside from pods. What frozens do you give to train and feed besides pods?
I usually start by giving them frozen lobster eggs/copepods and then move on to frozen brine shrimps. It'll take some time for them to accept frozen food but once they do, it becomes so much easier to keep them healthy and fat. All the best with your new dragonet :)
what kind of plants that are first showed in the beginning of the video? also great vid !!!!
It's called Chamaedorea Elegans 🙂 I got it from Ikea! Thank you!!

How big is this quarantine and do you use any filtration?
It's probably only 10 gallon and I am only using natural filtration (nitrifying bacteria and a couple of cycled bio balls)
will they go in the water box peninsula 25? :]
They will go somewhere else 😉 There's something special that will go there

Thank you ❤️👍
😍
Is Baby brine better than pods?
Yeah! Especially the newly hatched ones (1-2 days old) as they only contain yolk which is full of protein whereas pods have a hard shell that takes a bit more time to digest 🙂
Also, was the blue liquid methylene blue?
It's dr. Tim's stress guard :)
What medication do you suggest for quarantine?
That will depend on the type of fish as some fish are more sensitive to medication than others. I would suggest checking humble.fish/
They have a pretty good information on what medication to use on what fish. :)
Name PB&J
What's the minimum tank size that you can keep them in?
