    This is a truly superb instructional video for double knitting. She gives thorough and detailed demonstrations for both English and Continental styles, with careful detail showing exactly how to do some of the things that can be most confusing when you are first learning, like how to keep your two different colors of yarn strands positioned correctly as you knit then purl, and also how to manipulate the strands when you are at color change points in the pattern. The video is high quality and easy to see in detail. It's the best learning video and verbal description I have found for learning to double knit! Thanks!

    it does seem to matter how those yarns are placed when bringing forward or back, or there might be a crossed over bit in the wrong color , and you made sense of how to avoid this, the first time any RUclips has done this for me!

    • @thechillydog

      I usually do a two color chained cast on to start my double knitting, ruclips.net/video/QAwP2MJKlpw/видео.html, and you may like this method because it uses a crochet hook.

    Does any one in comments want to speak on their experience with the textured knitting needles? I am curious as to whether others liked or dislike these and whether you found them easier to use.

    • @Euterpe65
      @Euterpe65 3 года назад +1

      For me, they made things more difficult when I was a tighter knitter. Learning continental really helped my tension. I can only speak for the Addi’s, I did notice that my hands would be less fatigued using the squared’s. I began showing symptoms of carpal tunnel while knitting English so I tried them in an attempt that the ergonomics would help. I like them and notice a difference. As for the flexiflips squared, they are longer than the regular so you have a little more to hold onto. 😊

      @@Euterpe65 Keeping up with needles of different sizes and buying them is a pain and expensive. I actually carve my own knitting needles and I discover that perfectly round in diameter is not needed or helpful.

    • @thechillydog
      @thechillydog  2 года назад +3

      I don't know of a way to get a colorwork design the same (not the reverse image) on both sides. However, you can create solid colored double knit fabric by using 2 strands of the same color yarn.

    Isn't this also called jacquard?

    • @thechillydog
      @thechillydog  Год назад +3

      Good question, but I don't know the answer. I'm only familiar with the term jacquard as it applies to weaving, but I can certainly see the similarities.

    • @Stylvestre
      @Stylvestre Год назад +1

      Basically, jacquard knitting is single faced with floaters on the back, I think we could call it double faced jacquard if it also has jacquard motif. But double knitting just is a technique that doesn’t necessarily involves a pattern, it can be solid colors, 1 on each side.

    Can this be done using the Portuguese method of knitting?

    • @thechillydog
      @thechillydog  2 года назад +2

      I can't think of a reason why it wouldn't be possible to double knit Portuguese style. However, I have only experimented with it a little. Since you don't use your hands to manage/tension your yarn, I found it to be a little fussy and difficult to manipulate. With practice it would probably be easier.
