  • A quick film of a geodesic 2V dome build using the Hubs kit. Tried to keep it simple with a quick unpack and lots of stills so you can stop and look. This is a versatile and easy kit that is quite forgiving in terms of accuracy but is great fun to make. I used cheap broom handles but it still made a strong dome. Easy to get together, excellent instructions and hardy pieces. Not yet thought about a cover. Any questions please ask.

    Hi! This evening i bought the same kit, i want to ask you if it’ s possible to build a dome with one size sticks only, i was thinking about 1.20mt each. Let me know:) thanks

      You sure can do a 1v one size stick version. Read the earlier comments to see my previous post to my YT 1v build. Good luck!

    Can you add more packs to the same dome and make it larger?
    Like! is it possible to do so?

      Yes, absolutely. Obviously you are buying a hubs kits so you can do any frequency (1V, 2V, 3V) Dome if you have enough hubs. So far I have done 1v and 2v with the standard kit. The hubs are very useable so really there is no limit. Thank you and Good Luck.

      Oh! okay cool because i want to make a 3v and use zip-ties and plastic pipes instead of screws, i'll just feed a big zip tie to attach onto small ones and it should give me a 3V then combine it with shrink wrap, should make a nice detachable dome :)

      This is a good film for the zip tie build, hope it helps. Cheers ruclips.net/video/v_NnY_yYwuc/видео.html

      I don't have those hubs, these are the only hubs i can get a hold of affordably

    do you think this supports wind and strong storms the structure?

    • @glidewatch

      Difficult question. Domes can be good in wind BUT they need good anchoring at the base. This is not just to keep them down but also to stop the wind going underneath and lifting them like a parachute. So yes, these can stand up to a UK storm but must be tightly anchored. Some people just take the covering off for garden domes in the winter and the wind blows through! :-) Hope this helps.

      I wouldnt rely on the hubs staying together in a storm or with any kind of snowloading.

    And now I have added a YT Film on how to make two 1v Domes from this same kit with or without getting any new parts. ruclips.net/video/H2fWKfds8KY/видео.html

    Hello, can children climb on these? Can the connectors withstand kids weight?

    • @glidewatch
      @glidewatch  4 года назад

      Depends on their weight! So cannot guarantee, ask the firm. But the hubs lock very tight and stay in place. Also depends on the sticks, what they are made of for example. Climbing frames are difficult to prove. Sorry cannot give a guarantee. PS I do not work further firm who makes these. Thanks.

      From their website:
      Can they be used as climbing frames?
      No. hubs make it easy to make nice rigid garden domes; and they are strong under even loads, such as wind or snow, but a climber will put too much stress on an individual joint and the ball connector will pop out the socket.

    the hubs can unplug?

    • @glidewatch

      Yes, you unscrew the wing nut and washer and snap them off very easily. Just done it for this actual model and will use the bits again for a PVC Dome. Thanks.

    Have you figured out what to use as a cover

    • @glidewatch
      @glidewatch  3 года назад

      I have tried all sorts of plastics and tarps. The choice is to just throw it over or spend a long time cutting it to each individual shape, it's a job. That's why commercial sellers charge so much, the material can be cheap but the work takes time! Thanks for asking!😃
