    Personally, the hardest part about being vegan is seeing loved ones suffer from preventable lifestyle-related health issues. No matter how much scientific evidence you provide that a whole foods plant-based diet can be very healthy and beneficial, a lot of them just won't listen... 😢

    • @veg
      @veg 8 лет назад +8

      yes, this is really the worst thing!

    • @user-rm3iy4ye2l

      Lichtblick I guess we can only lead by example and inspire them to try out vegan foods.

      ***** It's really sad.. A doctor even told a few of my family members that diet has nothing to do with illness because "everyone gets something"...I was so angry when he said that.

      I can strongly relate. most of my close friends and family have terrible lifestyle habbits. and they just dont know or dont care that their health will most likely be shit as they get older.

    Thank you! I've been trying to get through to my mother about a plant based diet for her heart disease and I've sent this to her to watch.
    She's on a two in one type medication for her heart disease and high blood pressure, something she doesn't normally have until... after reading the product information leaflet, the medication for her heart disease has the side effect of creating high blood pressure!
    I don't want to lose my mother because she views a plant based diet as extreme and won't attempt it. I pray the veil will be lifted from her eyes before it's too late.

    • @yaelv4712
      @yaelv4712 5 лет назад +3

      Good luck. I've tried to convince my mother to just try it for a day. So far I have not been successful. The same old food is more important to her that her life.

    I went plant based almost 6-months ago, and my body won't stop thanking me for it. I had severe tendonitis in both arms, to the extent where I had to wear braces on both arms, all day, every day. If I skipped a day, the severe burning I would get in my elbow area rendered my arms useless. I was told I can try surgery, with maybe a 50/50 shot of working, or just get used to living with the braces. Only a few weeks after going plant based, my tendonitis is gone!

    Love you Dr. Greger. Been watching your videos for 3 years. I was raised on Top Romen, didn't have family & didn't know what to do when I went Vegan. I thought all herbs & spices were bad, lIke salt was. You completely changed how I eat, which is so important because if I'm going to be seen as the token Vegan, I want to show how healthy it is to be. You've had more positive effects on my life than anyone in my life... and I'm 42 years old. Once I'm out of my internship program, I'll be able to donate more. ♡Love you!!

I am a ethical vegetarian trying to go vegan for my health. I also supplement with b12 and D3. I've switched to almond milk and I'm getting lots of greens and fresh herbs in my diet. My father, now 89, was supposed to have bypasses 3 years ago. Instead, he veganized his food: Now not only can he go hiking again, he has taken all 3 blood pressure tablets off - after 40 years of use. Now he only takes Metoprolol 50 mg 1-2 times a month. He measures blood pressure almost every day.

    • @MichelVoss
      @MichelVoss 2 года назад

      Update: For a year now, my father has been raving about lamb chops again. At first I just took note of it and kept silent. 9/21 he suffered his first heart attack, 4/22 his second. Now he's complaining about his 8 tablets a day. So I suggested he eat like I do. His answer: I'd rather die than eat grass. :-(.

    I've installed the Daily Dozen app, but I'm confused a little bit:
    - Isn't it hard to generalize the daily portions for everybody ? We are at different ages, some are training hard etc.
    - For each food group there is a section called "Serving Sizes". Do we have variants of one serving there or they all combined make one serving ?

    How does a plant based diet help with atherosklerosis/heart disease (LDL and HDL cholesterol).. Is it the absence of fats (or other things) from animal products or is it the presence of more fibers and plant based oils added to your meal?
    Fiber has a great impact on raising HDL and lowering LDL, as well as plant based oils..
    Wondering because I've recently started eating way more lentils and beans and resistant starches, but still combine it with eggs and meat (no dairy and rest of diet is whole foods)..

    My brother in law had a stroke yesterday, he may get better in 72 hours but he is currently in intensive care and he can't speak, swallow and is paralyzed completely on his left side. I wish the med industry would wake the f**k up, he just finished 3 years of chemo for glandular cancer, last chemo treatment was 3 weeks ago and last diag was that the cancer had not gotten any bigger. Not much success there and now this.
    I've been vegan for almost 3 years and tried gently to try and get him to change his eating habits with no luck. Don't wait for this to happen to you or your family please.

    Tremendous vocal variation doc. It makes the viewing experience very enjoyable.
    Just be mindful that squinting the eyes makes you appear less trustworthy.

    Sadly most people are not intelligent enough and in control of themselves (will power) to do what is right and logical. We see this over and over again in all categories.
    Humans need to be taught logic while they are growing up. Parents need to start educating and protecting their children, then things will really change.

    Heart attack, heart disease coronary artery disease, You can tell by the naming that the medicine treats the symptoms and not the cause.. Well there is nothing wrong with the heart not even the artery. Arteriosclerosis is a slightly better word but it s all greek to most. Just name it "fatty blood disease" or even better eating disorder: Liporexia!!! People with this condition need a psychologist for support quitting bad habits more than they need a cardiologist.

      You don't need to worry. The body produces its own Cholesterol in situations where it needs it.

      Some of the RDA requirements are so off base and chlosterol is one of them, there normal recommendations hs people dying of heart attacks so i wouldn't worry to much. And as Hayden said your body will make the cholesterol it needs. peace
