I loved this movie when it came out when I was in High School. I went and saw it a couple times in the movie theater as video recordings (VCR's) were a very new technology and my parents didn't have one so whenever I wanted to see a movie again, you'd have to pay to see it in the theater although once they were out a while, you could go to a $1 theater with $2 for the popcorn and drink! It was a great deal. Of course this was in the very infancy of dolby surround sound and only the best theaters had the new fangled "Dolby" surround which was nothing like the 11+ channel home theater systems available now which are far superior to what the theaters were using back then. If you had a theater with even stereo sound, it was better than most theaters. When Roy Scheider said hit the "Whisper Mode", I thought, "Oh, that's slick". Daniel Stern was a new actor in this movie and went on to fame in the Home Alone movies and he was also the narrator for the TV Show "The Wonder Years", amongst other ventures. Blue Thunder was a fun movie, even though it's not realistic, it was still entertaining. I'd love to see a proper "re-make" of Blue Thunder made. Maybe they will some day. Use something like the Cobra "VIPER" variant flown by the Marine Corps in 2024, one of the most lethal of all attack helicopters and now one of the fastest with it's latest updates and enhancements including very advanced avionics, flight computers, and targeting systems that make the last variant pale in comparison, and a totally different aircraft than what the original version flown in the VIetnam war was like.
Excellent movie from the '80s!!! My generation!!! Infinite bullets, no civilians injured, just the main character shot and the bad guy de@d. Beats any Disney Star Wars, Disney MCU, or any other present-day movie.
Police pilot: Ok, guy with machine gun. Take him down! Blue Thunder: Turns the gatling canon around. Police pilot: Oh, yeah...that is still a military attack helicopter with bullet proof skin, advanced sensors and weapons of war....
Like I think I said in a previous post that scene when he rises from beneath the Bridge to surprise the Policemen as they are stopping his Partner is the best scene in the Movie.....
Airwolf was bulletproof, this thing has plexi glass windows. Airwolf > Blue Thunder Gotta give props on flying around LA like that, would be cool to see this being filmed.
Airwolf was a secret top model for military. Blue thunder was for Police work. The same difference between Robocop (police) and Terminator( infliltrate& destroy).
@@EddyJean-claude You're saying that military force is needed to enforce the law against citizens. There is a vast difference in the level of force between the military and police. The military is capable of leveling cities to the ground. Police are supposed to enforce laws and target people who break laws.
Yes, while AIRWOLF was an awesome state of the art attack helicopter, though it being cool, in real life a helicopter cannot hit mach5… whereas, Blue Thunder is close to life, as there are helicopters such as it today: the Army’s Apache Attack Helicopter.
The TV series flopped because it didn't have the budget of the PILOT movie (yes, pun WAS intended, haha!). So, less explosions and intense helicopter stunts and impressive camera angles and shots! Including machine-gun shots!
And the cascade of empty cannon brass raining down on the civillians. And don't forget the F-16 tumbling out of the sky after the pilot ejected. I'm sure that landed in an empty lot.
How stupid are the Police there. They can see Blue Thunder has a multi barrel machine gun at the front. Would you want to go up against it in a dogfight.
by any chance the Blue Thunder helo is based on the Aérospatiale AS565 AB Panther multi mission CSAR helicopter gunship . . . the Blue Thunder in the movie could have retained the retractable tricycle wheeled landing gear . . . instead of the retrofitted skids . . . sheer lack of simplicity in concept on part of the movie makers . . .
I saw it as a child and it was unforgettable!
Watched this movie in the year 1983 in the 70mm theatre and the experience was amazing
Back in days of using real live sets and props. All the chase scenes apart of the fake F16 were done for real.
Love to see this in 4K UHD
i remember building the plastic model after i saw the film. I liked it :)
And to show what a trooper Malcomb McDowell was, he was deathly afraid of flying. But there he was, in the cockpit.
Yes, quite a professional actor… his acting skills were awesome… when he needed it, it came on cue and right up… and so did his lunch! 😄😁
I almost expected Scheider to say, "Smile you SOB."
Hilarious to watch all these years later. Helicopters and fighter jets having a shoot out over LA.
I love the paint job on the little bird.

Nice essay.

Yeah
Simple good guys vs bad guys
Unlike today where every bad guys is misunderstood commom person
So edgy
Idk how that’s better but whatever
What you’ve described kinda sounds like propaganda so I can’t tell if youre joking
@@Frizzleman You don't know how that's better? Did you want to see some civilian casualties? 🤔
@ yeah kinda. I like when movies depict war accurately
Klassiker und auch heute noch Top Film 😊

Blue Thunder: Turns the gatling canon around.

Like I think I said in a previous post that scene when he rises from beneath the Bridge to surprise the Policemen as they are stopping his Partner is the best scene in the Movie.....
Didn't it spawn similar scenes in movies that followed it?
"Partner".
One of the best 80's action soundtracks. Similar to Terminator in a way.

Airwolf failed the physics test, Blue Thunder actually flew.
@garethholden4137 elaborate?
Like playing in your average session of GTA online 😂
Growing up in the mid 80's, I watched this movie when it was on HBO...every...single...time...
This movie predicted that police would use military hardware against citizens. Prophetic.
Ok boomer
Have you seen the animals that prey in big cities?
True indeed. Happened in Bangladesh in July.

remarkable directing for that time
The small helicopter i believe it's a Hughes 500 Defender had the maneuvering and agility while Blue Thunder had armor durability.
Hmmm Blue Thunder won the fight by out-maneuvering the Defender.
@@Wezwolf
In this case, “It’s the pilot, not the aircraft.”
@@ardiekepoo744
The turbine boost which enabled the maneuver was unique to Blue Thunder.
Excelente!
Yes a Great helicopter movie, Great actors, But all those bullets They Sprayed Everywhere hit buildings and People.
Right 😂😂
don't worry all the families of the deceased got big fat Hollywood paychecks ........................it was in the budget
That's OK, people weren't pussies in the 80s
Fake Ammo, Blanks.
No civilians were actually hit
I bet if he would have flipped the toggle switch instead of wiggle it up and down it would have engaged the turret 🤷🏼♂️🤣
Great movie though
Somehow I always like Blue Thunder better than Airwolf.

@ exactly! 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
Swear to God we done this type of griefing in .GTA 5 online...
Anyway, great chopper flick
This would be a GREAT SERIES and AIRWOLF.
Der Film macht sehr viel Spaß 👍🏻
I've never flown a helicopter, but if I had enough money I'd love to own a "Loach" and learn to fly it
Ich liebe diese Szenen.🚁👍😄📺
To make this film now the same way they did back then would be an insurance nightmare. No cgi and aerobatics over a city.
Catch you later ❢
Great true action
Blue Thunder is 20 years ahead of the Apache AH-64E Guardian!😮
Please... Blue Thunder dog fight with Airwolf😂👍
The TV series flopped because it didn't have the budget of the PILOT movie (yes, pun WAS intended, haha!).

Ah Malcolm mcdowell. Always up for a bit of the old Ultraviolence
Should have played Beethoven’s 9th /4th movement during his encounter with Murphy
I always thought the TV series was better than the movie...I was a kid however, might feel differently watching it 40 Yeats later...
RIP for those innocent lives hit by missiles and guns
And the cascade of empty cannon brass raining down on the civillians. And don't forget the F-16 tumbling out of the sky after the pilot ejected.
I'm sure that landed in an empty lot.
Nice movie
Should bring back
Nah... They'd over do it, full of CGI and crap...
LIVE button is a must
Roy had to say, "Catch you later"!
This movie better than Top Gun at dogfight
The Pilot fo the fly eye IT really good
how many casualities in these scenes ?
That was great movie.
If you're a nice guy, nice things happen.
Amikor lelövi az F-16-ost akkor a becsapódó lezuhanó gép lakatlan területre esik egy nagyvárosban?
Not necessarily. Sometimes it drops into a giant ball pit or bouncing castle. Those were the 80s. Great movie though.
Awesome
Nolan better do this justice!!!!
despite the compulsory 80's vibe, this was a gripping action scene. I'd argue it stands it's ground against the latest Maverick, if not better
This movie puts a lot of today’s action movies to shame.
Hello
Airwolf vs Blue Thunder..😊😊
To bad the surviving actual airframe was left outside to rot away and was scrapped. Would have been nice to see it restored, not now.
Angelo Garepe was a helicopter pilot?
No, he was a pastry chef
Why is this movie coming up in the feed now?….?
Great pilots

This was a GREAT movie but the Rules of Engagement would not have allowed the F16s to fire in a big city like that.
Got It. No any Problem Ja!
GTA in a certain time be like
Iwas a kid back in 1984 When the movie.
Came out before Air Wolf came out a year later on.T v
by any chance the Blue Thunder helo is based on the Aérospatiale AS565 AB Panther multi mission CSAR helicopter gunship . . . the Blue Thunder in the movie could have retained the retractable tricycle wheeled landing gear . . . instead of the retrofitted skids . . . sheer lack of simplicity in concept on part of the movie makers . . .
It's a modified Gazelle. The skids have been retained.
Tuono blu 💪👍
am glad 'Air Wolf 🐺 an ths show didn't cross paths Air wolf could have easy taken him I do like both shows
What about Airwolf
The best.
