I totally agree with the comment below mine. I appreciate a good detailed mod video. I think he done an excellent job explaining. Makes it to much easier for everyone else!
“You don’t need a life story, let’s get right too it” 👌 best thing to hear right off the bat! And to top it off you sped the process! Top quality install video! 🙏 thank you
I put the same struts on my 2020 TRD Sport and they are rock solid. They pick the hood up effortlessly, and are worth their weight in gold. Hood struts should be stock for the prices Tacomas are going for these days.
Seriously. Really bugs me when people thumbs down helpful videos. Especially tutorials that took probably over an hour of editing, all for no benefit for themselves but only to help others.
Great video! I watched it and ordered the same kit and installed on my 2017 Tacoma! Great kit with easy instructions. Took about 45 minutes to install. Makes my truck better! Thanks for showing how you installed in such detail!
I can't say rivets and I get along all the time, but I've never had good luck with self tapping screws in sheet metal like this... They tend to work themselves out of place for me in situations where there's tension put on and then taken off repeatedly.
Great job and great video, People will use this video for their installs, I have you book marked so when I do mine I will use your video as a reference, Thank You
I was just thinking when you spray the paint instead of spraying it on directly, you can spray your finger and apply it with your finger or a q-tip. I think that may help with the overspray like you did. I'll be using your video as a guide, great job!!
Best way to do the pop rivets is to start them, then put the gun on the rivet shank, push the nose of the gun down to contact the skirt, then pound the top of the gun over the rivet with your hand or a wood/plastic or rubber mallet to drive the rivet fully into the hole. Much easier than trying to man-handle it into the hole. I just used my hand and it drove in easily.
Next time you're doing rivets like this, I'd use some bulb grease or some silicone grease instead of paint. I only criticize this because by pushing in a rivet so tightly, it will remove paint as is goes through and when it expands. Grease would still remain in this application and repel water to prevent any rust.
How do you figure? It's been a while since I did this video, but you can see the directions in the first frame of the video that show the ball part of the mount sticking towards the outside of the truck, and the mounts are a mirror image when split horizontally so there's no top or bottom...
I don't really see how you could... It would definitely be difficult due to the fact you wouldn't be able to reach the bolt heads inside the channeling in the hood to tighten them down. I think rivets are still your best best. I've had the hood lifter on there for 2 years now, and the rivets are still holding with no problems.
I have a tendency to be less than graceful with stuff like that so I was trying to take it easy to prevent heart break. I'm pretty clumsy, so it wouldn' have surprised me at all to slip and scratch/dent the hood with the rivet gun or something. That would have definitely been easier though.
I had to use a 13/64" bit as the rivets would not push thru, plus the holes in the hood ball bracket needed drilled out as well and the strut ball sockets cause me no end of grief. Bent 2 of the C-clips trying to insert the ball into the socket as did another reviewer on their site. Need to use a heavy duty rivet tool. Mine was too long for the fender mounts and had to use an old pliers type tool which was a bear to squeeze. I used some cold galvanizing paint on a Q-tip inserted into the drilled holes. Oh yeah, after you install the driver side drop the stock hood prop rod. I got both struts installed then realized I couldn't lift the hood enough to lower the rod. I noticed a lot of flexing of the fender mount sheet metal. Not cool. I posted a review on their web site and I guess since it was not a 5 star rating they trashed it!
Pap Yota Goodness! Sounds like I got super lucky! The only part that gave me any trouble was getting the rivets into the holes, and that only required a little wiggle to get it to go in...
Live the video. I think I might do this too. The hood on this Tacomas are heavy. I have a 17 TRD pro with the scoop. Those two lifts look rather weak. Are they holding up all the weight without any issues? Can you still use the original rod to hold it up the hood too? (Just curious) so when it comes time to replace I have a back up?
It lifts it with no problems for now. I only have to lift it about an inch before it takes over and lifts the hood on its own. I don't pop my hood very often though, and so i've only really used it a dozen times or so. The rod is still there, but I don't know if I could use both at the same time. I believe the shocks hold the hood just a bit lower than the rod, and so you can't get it fully extended to lock in place. But if you're replacing the shocks then you can definitely disconnect them and use the rod to hold it while you install the new ones.
Toyota Fixation .... yeah I was thinking that too. Should I need a higher clearance and good lord knows why, lol. I could always disconnect it and use the stick rod. Thanks for the response and the video.
Excellent Video, thank you. The vendor Redline Tuning is gearing up for another group buy on Tacomaworld and I plan on snagging a set. This video was great and should allow me to do a trouble free and confident install! Pick up the thread here, and don't let the title fool you. It's an old thread title but they will be selling all model years. www.tacomaworld.com/threads/new-2015-sale-for-redline-tuning-hood-quicklift-systems-tacoma-only.364632/page-5 Just one question, when you measured for the brackets that attach to the hood, you said you measured along the surface of the hood or did you project a line from the edge? Again, great video! Thanks, Rob
Great vid. Thanks for the help. A million thumps

Great job brother, you boosted my confidence
Great how to video. I want to do this to my Tacoma when I finally get it. I dislike prop rods.
Why would anyone give this it a thumbs down is beyond me. This guy is making a very helpful video.
Some people are just duchebags
Seriously. Really bugs me when people thumbs down helpful videos.

Yeah some real douche rockets out in the world. video was awesome. well done. close ups were nice. no reason for a thumbs down.
probably Dumacrats

I would use self tapping screws instead. Good demonstration of how you did it.

Not only was this an informative video... Man it was super entertaining! love it!
those dam hoods are freakin heavy
Great job and great video, People will use this video for their installs, I have you book marked so when I do mine I will use your video as a reference, Thank You
Excellent video sir. I might do this to my truck.
Excellent install video man 👍🏼
Thank you for making this video! Makes the installation much more clearer.

Thanks! Very thorough and detailed. I'm looking to do this on my 2017 Tacoma and I'll be using this as a guide.

Do you think it would be okay to use self tapping screws instead of rivets?
Great video, thank you- I have an 05 Tacoma and have been wanting to do this, I think I can now.,
Nice install video! I'd love to install something like this on my 4Runner.
Thrifty Garage I smell a crossover video!

Nickk Cameron ahhh. that makes more sense. I will definitely do that next time. thanks!
Shouldn't be a bother, though. Not much water is going to get in there. Spicy Taco you have there.
Nickk IRL quick question, would you prefer one type of grease over the other or do they do the same thing
Good video very helpful thanks
So its been like 3 years since i have seen your video. How are they holding up?
Unfortunately I sold the Tacoma a few months back, but everything was holding up beautifully. No problems with it at all.
Top brackets are backwards.

I like it! Need to do this with my Tacoma
You are the man. Going to install the same one Monday exactly how you did.
Go Bronc's
Lieutenant Dan you have magic legs!
Nice job
Great job!!! Ty for sharing.
Thanks for sharing the install.
Can you use some sort of little bolts/screws instead of rivets
I don't really see how you could... It would definitely be difficult due to the fact you wouldn't be able to reach the bolt heads inside the channeling in the hood to tighten them down. @@ToyotaFixation I know but I was thinking maybe self tapping screws.
@@tonylopez5239 possibly... I've never had good luck with self tappers and sheet metal though.
Since it's been a while how are they holding up. Thanks
Sweeet!!!!
Austin Powers great video. Is this military housing?
No, just some little townhomes.
use the rivet gun to push the rivet through and then just tighten it up

how long many inches the gas struts.
The amazon posting says they're 20 x 2 x 2 inches... I can measure them for real when I get home if you like...
20in the total lengh? and thank you you doing good job. so helpful.
Doesn’t seem to raise up fairly fast at all. Good video presentation
Live the video. I think I might do this too.

I just love watching his facial expressions. LMFAO.
Why are the hoods so god damn heavy lol
Where do you get those from?
Alvin Close JR Amazon. I have the link in the video description.
Do you have an instagram page for the truck?
No... but I might have to look into it.
