    Great and thorough breakdowns..thks for sharing..From hawaii..Loving this reel the Reliance 45 fitted with 40# braid..out of over 80 reel field tested for the price point its the best I have encountered. Most reels has failed before 40 hrs of use popping 2 oz lures. Currently at 44 hrs and is still smooth...wish had a ball knob instead of a paddle..love the LOUD drag best of over 80 reels....

      @Emmanuel Bazile I wish I wish I could give you better answer, but I haven't had it out much. It does cast like a dream. I have 65# braid on it and I'm easily casting 80+ yards with it on a 12' heavy Meat Hunter rod. If I could change anything I think the handle is a bit big, but we will see what happens in the next few months. I will say this thing is built like a tank and I do not regret buying it.

    I own 2 of these reels sized 550. They are beasts. They have a stronger drag than my Penn Battle 3 size 8000 and the drag is just as smooth. I have owned them for about 4 months now, and so far everything is still tight and still runs smooth. I fish both fresh and salt water. I have them each paired with a 10ft Penn Battalion Surf rod. They cast a mile.

      What’s your price range??? I would recommend the Shimano stradic fl 4000 on a st croix avid inshore 7ft. Or if you’re looking to go cheaper for smaller to medium fish the nasci on a penn battalion 2 7ft is a great option. And for around the same price, for larger fish I recommend a daiawa BG combo. Good luck

    At the bottom of the anti reverse bearing, there appears to be a bi-metal flange seal. Sometimes you will see that in automotive applications, such as brake lines. One metal is softer than the other and when you apply torque, the two pieces contour to one another. When you have a small amount of a hydrophobic coating or lubricant, the result is fairly water tight.

    *@Tackle Advisors* I just discovered your channel a few days ago and I'm lovin' it! Your channel will be instrumental in being a deciding factor for future purchases, as you do in-depth tear downs which gives me a good look at materials and overall construction. However, I have a request for you. I buy and use both cheap and more expensive spinning reels (up to about $250), and have a use for both. I was wondering if you could do an in-depth tear down of the new budget model Daiwa Crossfire LT, preferably in the 2500 or 3000 size. I generally use cheaper reels for float fishing, as I don't really need an ultra-smooth retrieve for drifting floats down a river for steelhead (the drag is what matters most). What interests/impresses me about the new Crossfire LT is that it has what I believe to be a carbon fiber drag (the ATD Advanced Tournament Drag), and I am interested to know what its construction and materials are like. I know it's not a sexy reel that would get a ton of views (or would it? 🤔), but it sure would be appreciated if you could do a full review of one! Thanks for an awesome channel and take care! Cheers! 🙂

      I'm aware that this post is 3 yrs old, but I used a Crossfire LT3000 for 2 years, inshore saltwater fishing here in FL. Handled everything I asked it to. 30+in reds and snook, large Jacks and even peanut tarpon. I will say that I broke the reel down every 2 weeks or so to clean and lube. Not sure how long it'd last if I didn't though. Lasted about 2 years, fishing 3-4 times per week. Handled 10-15lb braid just fine; no wind knots that I can remember. Drag was adequate but nothing special. I lost the reel in a move, or else I'd still use it occasionally. Take good care of it and it'll probably suit you just fine. Clean and re-lube out of the box as a precaution.

Do mostly kayak and wade fishing, my BG works great but know it's only a matter of time before I drop it or something happens. That's a nice looking reel for $100. It would probably last a long time if used in fresh water. The smallest size I see is a 30 is that correct? The gear ratio is higher on the smaller reels than on the larger sizes. I'm assuming that isn't a huge issue since the spool is smaller.

      @christopherjenkins2373 3 года назад +1

      @@realest7000 I have zero experience with Tsunami rods except from friends who had serious problems with them. There are other rods that I am much more interested in. I find that it is a rare thing to find that makers of great reels are usually not as good at making quality rods and vice versa. I almost entirely use vintage surf spinning reels which I collect as a hobby. If I were to buy a Tsunami reel I would probably get a Salt X. I wasn’t negative about high end Tsunami reels at all. It is Quantum reels that I have had such a negative experience with in the past. In general I’ll take my vintage reels over modern ones every time. Almost all of my reels are pre 1980. I wonder how many modern reels will still be around when they are 40 - 50+ years old particularly those made in China. My favorite surf rods are Offshore Angler Ocean Master graphite rods. I’m presently looking at buying a Ninja Dagger surf rod. The difficulty with Tsunami rods that I have heard about has to do with the breakdown of the epoxy on the line guides leading to premature rusting. That is the only reason I would not buy a Tsunami rod at this time. Whether this is a pervasive problem or not I don’t know but I’m happy your experience has been different.

    • @realest7000
      @realest7000 3 года назад

      @@christopherjenkins2373 thanks yeah I’ve been really happy with my tsunami rod it’s surpassed all of my expectations. I’m sure that the budget ones they sell at Walmart that are of lesser quality have many issues. Most of my experience with rods have been with Star Rods. I own 5 and have only experienced some minor issues. I’m looking to buy a custom rod next whenever the time comes for a new one. As for reels, I’m interested in the Salt X aswell. I just don’t feel like splashing the $350 right now. The fact that its fully submergible makes it an incredible value to me. I’ve spent too much $ on reels and I’ve yet to find one that can last through the hell my brother an I put them through. I have very limited experience with older reels the only ones I’ve encountered have been completely corroded. I am open to them though. My close friend just bought an Avet and a Shimano Talica and is deciding which heavy duty rods to pair with them. He is thinking about a Connley Custom rod since they are having a sale.

  • @jplee3
    @jplee3 3 года назад +1

    I just went through hell and back with my Reliance PT 30 - there's not as much clearance to remove the screw connecting the slider to the main shaft so the only way I found to remove it was THROUGH one of those holes in the drive gear. You have to align it perfectly over the screw and be extra careful not to rotate the spool during or after unscrewing since there's no reverse mechanism. I made the mistake of moving the spool slightly after getting the screw mostly out, and that was it... the entire main shaft, drive gears, etc were all stuck with the screw lodged in between the drive gear teeth and the slider/main shaft. I had to tap the other end of the drive gear shaft out (through the handle port) with a screwdriver and hammer/floor before it freed up but not without damaging the teeth on the drive gear. I'm not sure why they couldn't provision for just slightly more clearance to remove that screw. The tolerances are so tight that a tiny mistake with that translates into immediate damage. It seems on the bigger models there's more clearance to remove the screw properly from outside of the drive gear so it isn't as big a concern. I'm scared to tear this reel down again. Oh, and another bonus with the 30 is that there's a very thin retaining O-Ring that sits above the ball bearing that's on top of the AR clutch (ruclips.net/video/LXZbwJ3ao5A/видео.html - on my 30 you aren't able to pull the bearing off like that without first removing the thin O-Ring). I managed to break this o-ring upon pushing the rotor back onto the shaft :(
    Definitely had a poor and traumatic experience tearing the smaller version down. Now that I've reassembled the reel, I can feel the rough spots which are presumably from when I had to hammer/force the drive gear out. I'll either have to send this back to Quantum or request for a new drive gear and O-ring and hope that those were the only problematic parts and that nothing else is wrong. Sending it back under warranty for repair sounds like it might be a better option at the moment hahaha

      @@TackleAdvisors gotcha. Seems like a decent price at $90 for a sealed reel though, but guess I'll stick to my BG in that price range. Looking at either the Back Bay or just the regular Slatist as a next purchase for casting from the shoreline. Which of those 2 would you say is best ~$200? Or would you reccomend something else entirely like a Stradic?

    • @TackleAdvisors
      @TackleAdvisors  4 года назад

      Can you swing a Saragosa SW? From what I've seen it's gonna be the reel to beat until you get to the 400/500$ price point in terms of rugged reliability.

    • @jpap967
      @jpap967 4 года назад

      @@TackleAdvisors I could yeah. Basically I'm looking for my main bait tossing spinning reel that I'm gonna be holding a lot and casting a lot. The BG was nice to start but I want something more resistant to saltwater intrusion. I was thinking the Saltist, but it's really just a BG with magseal for the mainshaft, right? Also wanted to stick with Daiwa if possible but reels like the Stradic and Slammer 3 have been looking more and more attractive. I'll check out the SW too. For me, smoothness, lightweight, and finesse are valued more than overall toughness or durability as I want salt water capability but only fish inshore every month or 2 at most

      @@TackleAdvisors I find that more often than not, as spinning reel reviewers go, you're a leader when it comes to being reasonable... though not as reasonable as Alan Tani is about conventionals, because he deals mostly with long range reels, and when it comes to bigger yellowfin and wahoo, there's more of a bottom line, that prevents precious opinions... but anyway, when it comes to spinning reels, you do SOMETIMES wind up being the one with questionably supported "head scratchers". I've taken Alan Hawk to task before for over-rating the efficacy of the Daiwa "air rotor" arches, since that feature never made plastic rotors as sufficiently inflexible as unarched metal (BG shmeegee)... and, for not calling out manufacturers for putting skirts on reels and then putting a bunch of holes in them, for insignificant weight savings... and whaddya know, years later he's lauding those "any idiot could see that" course corrections, on the 2020 Saltiga (but, good for him...). But anyhow, here it seems like you, as a reviewer, may be falling into the same trap as the dread marketing departments, reaching for something to say, that seems like it may not be sufficiently un-woo-woo. In other words, I'd love to know what you think it is that is making for INSUFFICIENT transfer of power in this reel, because it seems like even Hawk, who can get more carried away about fetishes than you, almost genuinely feels like his "perfect" new Saltigas have TOO much transfer of power to be sporting, versus medium-sized fish. But anyhow, I'd love to know what exactly you're doing with the small Reliance that feels like there's too little transfer of power to be fun. I just wonder how it can be that people are digging the medium sized ones for hundred pound tarpon, yet the smaller ones, unless they have a different design, inexplicably can't reel something in in Jersey well enough, for someone not known to pine for electric reels. Or, instead of binding under load, are you just referring to the sealing being a bit too much of a drag when retrieving heavy lures or leads, which are not the greatest loads, and, as such, not precisely the same thing as binding under load, but can still make for a "meh" retrieve? Or maybe what you've been experiencing, if it really is a fighting issue, is a downside of the much lauded screw-in handles. I don't know if the Saltigas do this when you over-torque the handle (due to unfortunate fighting form or overtightening it in the first place), but, I find that the dirty little secret on my various reels with screw-in handles is that, when those get too tight, the reel is marginally harder to turn (side-loading the side bearing? don't know)... and, I'll probably be resorting to strategically placed medium Loktite at some point, to try to keep them from eventually screwing in too far and bogging things down. I mean, it's only downright "meh" when we're fighting a shark that has grabbed an amberjack or what have you, with 14 ounce reels, and can always be temporarily fixed by backing off the handle and loosely re-tightening. And, really only a problem with something like a Silky over 90 pounds, or a Sandbar over 160, because up to those weights we have handled before without getting in a situation where you're trying to coax/pry it out of it's pectoral glide, from above, with the reel handle at times. Anyway, don't take my harping as anything more than a call to be more precise... because I am curious as to exactly what your problem is. (Reeling-wise, that is. With a small Reliance, that is:)

      After how their head of social media marketing was such a dick at the bass master classic (still haven't released the video) and the fact that a Chinese company owns many of the trademarks making me doubt their origin story.... I don't recommend their products. Their spinners like 99 percent of the Oem spinners don't offer any value for $. But their baitcasters in the low cost range get the job done.

      Tell that to the my friends daiwa theory that is on my bench.... 3 corroded ball bearings after 4 trips... No dunks... Or too the daiwa bg reels who's pinion bearings rust at the first whiff of salt getting under the rotor.... Extending like new performance can only be extended with excessive maintenance, or seals... Saltwater exposure is unavoidable if you're doin it right :). Penn Z reels exist along with ZB vs saltx for a good reason
