@@PennyShreve Very cool that you got speak with Alan - my wife met Donny when he was recording the Mulan soundtrack (she worked for Disney) and hosted him on several marketing events. As Alan was older, he was probably already an established family man...he might not have had the same "rock star ego" as little brothers. I'm 58, so I didn't really "discover" them all until Donny and Marie...but lately I've gone back to the original "brothers' stuff. They really did rock it...GREAT voices...GREAT harmonies...Great Musicians!! Coincidentally, I worked at Disneyland for 18 years; i wasn't there yet in 1980, but there are a lot of costumed performers in some of these videos that eventually became my friends/coworkers...

I listened and watched it again after Penny Miller commented on my empty seats. Thank you for Penny!! Because you messaged I was brought back here and saw this again. I was the last person to comment NINE MONTHS ago. I love Let Me In and Merrill's voice. I guess it was sacrilege to see Donny start singing it. :D But listening again, he was very good. I suddenly miss these guys so much. I checked and this was done in 1978, the same year that they came to CNE in Toronto for (two nights) for the last time. This was us; our young lives. In late October 2020 we are somewhat lucky to even be alive to watch it again. I am going to post this to my Facebook page and the CNE Toronto Osmonds page. In 1978 I graduated high school, had amazing fashion sense, (he he) loved the music, and had a crazy wonderful year with awesome Osmond friends. I felt GOOD!! Forty or so years later it is interesting that we can still pick up the phone after a year or, years and pick right up again. I kept track of the Osmonds through 1979 but knew it was coming to a close by the 1980's. Looking further back for a moment... The Proud One. Darlene said that when she heard it she thought "It's over". I remembered being disappointed with it. All slow, sad songs and one or two odd ones. Brainstorm. It was pretty good. A couple of real ringers that I STILL love. Steppin' Out is an amazing collection of good songs, great continuity, produced by Barry Gibb. It deserved to do well and be recognized, but it was lost in the shuffle. I listening to it while driving. I did pick up on the country albums, eventually learning to love country music twice. Once in 1983 (at first I was HORRIFIED by that first, goat roper song (Corners of my Heart). I even played it for my Mom so she could agree. (she probably didn't care, but pretended to be). Loved the ballads. The second country album was better, I think, and I would make myself listen to the local station after calling in an Osmond request on a Saturday night. I did buy, and still have the 45's/singles that were released in the States but not here in Canada. I recognized some songs and the song writers even more so after fully converting to country music around 1991. But, in the 1980s there was no more running around to see them in New York etc with three little girls to raise. I pissed off my husband royally by getting tickets to Kingswood, at Wonderland north of Toronto in 1983. (he became my ex in 1993). I did it again in or 1991 when, with the addition of two-year-old twin boys at home, I went and met two friends at Ontario Place to see Donny. I remember yelling really loud which triggered all the noise just before the show started. Cool, eh. The 1990s brought a divorce, five kids to raise, and my love of country, blues (Colin James), and Rick Emmett. (Loudest show EVER). I went to so many shows and concerts. 2000s, 2010zzz, I found The Osmonds again. Niagara Falls, Kitchener, St Catherine's, Michigan a few times. I only did Vegas once, and that was in May 1977 at the Las Vegas Hilton. I even appeared (in the far background) in Tiger Beat. I used to wonder HOW girls did that(and hated them for it). The trick is to go to them. I bumped into another trio of friends unexpectedly in the lobby of the Hilton on my second day there. That was bizarre but made it the best week of our lives. In April of 2019 Marie was appearing near Cleveland and Merrill and Jay were with her. I drove to Cleveland, and a friend flew to Cleveland from Calgary. We toured around some church history sites during the day and went to the show in the evening. I am SO grateful we did that. They sang Hold Her Tight which made it THE BEST SHOW EVER!!! I won't see Jay and Merrill again. I finally DID go to Vegas in October 2019 with the same friend whose biggest dream was to see Donny and Marie in Vagas. So, off we went sightseeing in AZ for 5 days, and then we made it happen on her birthday. This is a long walk down the lane of memories. So, seeing this video took me back to 1978. To the slim, handsome guys of the 70s. With amazing vocals, fancy choreography, and Wayne killing a solo on his guitar. (I miss Wayne.). To 1970s when we were still young enough to scream and yell and cry hysterically like idiots, and later in the decade, not feel too ridiculous. To the 1978 "us" when life was not as hard and 'The Ex', or where ever you saw them near your hometown, was the only thing that really mattered. We still had so many choices, so many friends. We still had adventures to plan. Penpals, Ospals, friendship books, TV specials, variety shows, crazy TV clips from England, the next 16 Magazine, Tiger Beat Flip, Donny caps, white jumpsuits, those BLACK jumpsuits!! You probably watched 'Elvis! Aloha From Hawaii, delivered via Satellite 'that' night, and maybe ran out and bought the double LP. We still had time to dance in our bedrooms till the needle skipped, then try to 'fix' the LP by putting a penny or two on the needle arm to make it play through. (What song or album did your needle skip on? Mine: Lonesome They Call me, And Lonesome I Am...HUHHH) Back when each of us imagined our favourite Brother meeting us, and THEM falling in love...when the only boy we had kissed was made of paper and taped on our bedroom wall. (purple, but I "moved onto the other brothers quite quickly). Way back when the people we cry over now were young, and maybe taken for granted, but still with us. They have gone ahead. I miss my Mom and Dad who worked hard and made my life, and my memories possible. I miss The Brothers. So, thank you to Penny for catching my grumpy day comment of 9 months ago and taking me back. Maybe this takes you back too. Danny Kaye, the great actor, reduced to Disney Land host. Unfortunately, this is what happens when great actors become forgotten. A very canned intro. But you can't beat the Osmonds. Great talent.s Hope they're never forgotten!
Osmonds were better than the Jacksons as they got a number 1 hit record before Jacksons. Osmonds started their careers in the early 1960's. The jacksons didn't. Osmond fan since 1971.

Donny should have done a 'Donny' song and leave the lead vocals on "Let Me In" where they belong - with Merrill. I know the brothers always said it doesn't matter who's out front, as long as it's an Osmond. Still, I feel ripped off not getting to see my favorite brother sing that song.

The jacksons were good but didn’t have the fans that could keep them going for 50 years as the osmonds have, hence their being in Vegas and Branson now. Don’t get me wrong, I liked the jacksons and do believe they were better performers in their latter years than the osmonds and were able to change their music to fit with the times but couldn’t do anything without Michael, the osmonds did have some success without Donny.
The Osmonds did come first but once the Jacksons came on the scene the Osmonds completely changed their style in the image of the Jacksons which bought the Osmonds true success. To be fair Jermaine Jackson had a big solo career with platinum and gold records and the Jacksons have been touring globally for over four years. Both groups are amazing.
