  • Betty demonstrates how to make Homestyle Hot Dogs. These are great with Sauerkraut Salad!
    Homestyle Hot Dogs
    ½ onion, finely chopped
    1 tablespoon olive oil
    11-ounce bottle of spicy ketchup
    2 tablespoons sweet pickle relish
    1 tablespoon sugar
    1 tablespoon white vinegar
    ¼ teaspoon salt
    ¼ teaspoon ground black pepper
    8 uncooked hot dogs
    8 hot dog buns, opened and toasted on flat side
    In a medium-sized skillet, saute chopped onion in olive oil over low heat until softened, but not brown. Stir in ketchup, pickle relish, sugar, vinegar, salt, and pepper. Score the hot dogs at about every 3/4-inch diagonally, about half-way through. Add scored hot dogs to ketchup mixture in skillet. Simmer over low heat until hot dogs are heated through, about 10 minutes. When hot, place hot dogs in toasted buns, ladling desired amount of sauce on top of each one. Serve immediately.
