The pointy mouth Hornet theory likely refers to how both the Pale King and Hollow Knight have pointed tips at the bottom of their masks. Since the bottom of Hornet’s mask is obscured behind her cloak, it’s possible that she too has a pointed mask, signifying a relation to the Pale King. We already know that Hornet is the Pale King’s child, so it wouldn’t be unfeasible for her to have a pointed mask as well.

The king failed the knight by thinking that the void had no will, no soul. But the void had a soul, had a will. The player is proof of that.
one obscure piece of trivia that wasn't mentioned here is that the Kickstarter update first mentioning No Eyes also mentions that the backer who created her also sent in her bakcstory which was apparently really, really disturbing, but Team cherry still hasn't mentioned what said backstory acttually entailed.

The TL;DR of her origin is, she was a Knight who had lots of children. she went on a quest right before the Radiance epidemic happened. her children got infected, and when she got back and saw they where infected, she went insane and refused to believe they were infected. They then tore her eyes out and killed her. The weird ghost things that attack you during her fight are those children.
So yeah, that’s pretty disturbing.

The abyss stretch goal was actually meant to be an entire abyss sea area where you could go under the abyss we see in the game, if I'm not mistaken. The part we see in-game is just the abyss shore.

@@michaelhuit A small bit of Hallownest is available with the abyss sea, but trying to escape the sea just gets you killed. That would be a fun concept for a late-game area.

If you Dream nails Tiso’s corpse in kingdoms edge he will say why...
This is answered in a Kickstarter backer tablet by tiso spencer(the creator) and it states I know which implies that Tiso was never actually supposed to be a boss and was an elaborate bait and switch to piss off fans.
This is propelled even more in the Pantheon of Hallownest where Tiso gets a boss title and dedicated shield animation only to get butt stomped by brooding mawlek. This is interesting because we actually fight a brooding mawlek in the trial of the fool, the entry animation of which is it jumping out of a cage onto the knight/little ghost implying that this is how Tiso died.
Fuck them. Why not Tiso boss? It would’ve been so freaking cool.
And then if you dream nail Tiso’s corpse in the brooding mawlek fight (when he’s dead and on the ground) he’ll once again State.

I've put about 100 hours into Hollow Knight across PC and Switch, and I was not aware of the Menderbug NPC until a week ago when someone did a meme speedrun to kill it. I remember hearing that and being like, "wait, a what!?"
The fact that such a rare and completely optional NPC has as much backstory as it does really shows the lengths Team Cherry goes to make Hallownest feel alive.
My favorite head canon is the way beings like hornet eat is by sliding food into the eye holes or through the neck to shell line because they have no visible mouths

I think that Hornet is wearing a mask. The Mask maker is in deepnest (if I'm remembering right) and unlike the vessels she isn't void so she must have some way to eat. Also I like to imagine that Hornet is this hyper deadly warrior with a scary mask (at least to the characters) but looks just adorable underneath.

One of the old promotional artworks for the kickstarter shows, among other characters, a slightly different design for Hornet where the bottom of her face is somewhat pointy, similar to the Pale king in the final game. Look up "hollow knight promo" on google images, it should be the first result.

Theory about the life blood creature:
The lifeblood creature found in the abyss is probably a higher being. In the lifeblood room, it has dream catcher particle effects. The dream realm is associated with many other higher beings, such as Radiance or Grimm, so its not unlikely the lifeblood creature is one too. During the reign of the Pale King, he sealed away other higher beings, like Radiance. The Pale King forbid anyone from using lifeblood, which means that the lifeblood creature may also be powerful enough to be considered a higher being.
The lifeblood creature is the origin of all lifeblood. The life seeds are it's offspring. The lifeseeds, if not killed while in their cocoon, grow into lifeblood butterflies. The lifeblood creature appears in godhome because like in the lifeblood core room, it is shown to have association with dreams.
Finally, Joni has a lifeblood charm and most likely was a user of lifeblood. The charm described her as a "heritic", and people who were caught using lifeblood were also heritics. Joni may have been caught using lifeblood and fled to the Howling Cliffs where she died. If you equip Joni's blessing and break a lifeblood cocoon, the seeds will follow you, shwoing that Joni has a deeper connection with lifeblood. She couldve even met the creature itself.
About the "pointy hornet mask" theory, this is likely not true, since if you kill Nosket (the flying version of Nosk first resembling Hornet instead of the knight) you get to see hornet's full mask which is round at the bottom
I don't know why but poggy thorax makes me feel so weird. The way he talks, the mound of corpses, the rotten decaying food, the cannibalism, it's just so unnerving.
I never met the menderbug, though it's apparently a good thing I didn't.
I've put in like 60 or 70 hours and I only saw menderbug one time.
My personal belief is the entirety of hollow knight occurs in the cracks between concrete in some secluded alley, and some guy is just watching a beetle with a sword fight a moth god

I have another lore point about Esmy. When you get to Sly after getting all nail arts he says "you have mastered the arts of my REMAINING pupils" (emphasis mine). Now, what would that mean?? :D :D :D
It is more likely that Esmy was some sort of equal o Sly's. OrO, MatO, and SheO all end their names with O, and then SlY and EsmY both end theirs in Y, so Esmy may be a sibling of Sly, nailsage that trained with Sly, or a partner of some sort.
@@Late0NightPC Esmy is the bug we find in kingdoms Edge. She have the clothes of the nailmaster and is next to one of the nailmaster home in the kingdom Edge.
I think Esmy is the corpse/dummy near Oro's hut, because it has dreamnail dialouge. Esmy could have reincarnated as Sheo, thus why he says he was a nailmaster in another life.
Guys that dummy is a great hopper dressed up as Mato. The two younger brothers do not get along for some reason...

I think that the giant arachnid in the beasts den is a corpse and it’s deepnest old king. The lore states that before the pale king arrived deepnest was ruled by Hera and a unknown king. This bug seems to have a crown of some sort and it says that deepnests king died at some point so I think they hung his corpse up inside the beasts den.

Whenever I see the blundering oberlisk I cry for what could’ve been
I always had a bit of a thought on the white palace, so there were plans to have a “dusk knight” and a “pale golem” which were later fused into the Kingsmould, so there are few Kingsmould around the place and you’d expect there to be like dozens since they are in royal grounds but have you wondered why there were shade particles in the throne room? My theory is that the king would dispose the moulds that would break or supposedly die underneath his throne room and we know that there are some breakable parts in the throne room mainly from the secret to the right so who’s to say that there isn’t a secret room under the throne? Because on the way to the throne there is a huge space apart from where you enter it I would believe that the pale king would toss the moulds underneath the platform that his throne is on which would later return to come back at him and would possibly be the cause of his death And there could be some evidence since the moulds at the end are dead with void leaking out of them hence why there are only very few Kingsmoulds And if ever the knight would dive into the platform they would be taken to a huge pit full of lifeless pieces of armor and a room a bit ahead which would’ve been the excellent idea to make the pale golem which are some of the moulds fusing into one another and upon attacking them would make them break off creating the dusk knight which is a kingsmould but more broken down and with no weapon

Finally some one does one of these for Hollowknight. Though I know I could make a better iceberg with super obscure entries like : Ugly Jesus Vs Mummy, The canonicity of Pickles in Hollowknight, The carnival of crabs and more deep stuff like that.
My personal theory on who Esmy is or was is, as follows. For most things in Hollowknight there is a reason why they happen. Like why the signs are fixed after you break them and reenter a room is because of the mender bugs. So I think Esmy was the one who helped Sly get his store inventory and was like a business prater who inspired him to become a merchant or something like that. I also think because Sly is obsessed with geo. My theory on his "How much deeper do we have to go" line is in reference to the big geo ball in kingdom's edge that you have to use desolate dive a few times to get to. My theory is that Esmy was meant to die in the final version of the game on this expedition for treasure and we were going to find her corpse in at the bottom of he pit in kingdom's edge, However we don't see it because this whole story line got cut, and that's why she still haunt's Sly's dreams. Because he feels guilty about her death.
I also think pointy mouth Hornet means. What if Hornet is really talking out of U of her head or what if the U on her head is really her mouth? or something silly like that.

Ugly Jesus Vs Mummy was the first game William posted to Newground's. it's weird and no one really knows about it talks about it or remembers it even though it is just as important if not more so than say return to booty grotto is. So the pickle story goes like this. So you should know about the physical wanders journal book and how it is considered canon. In one of Relya's streams with Leth. mossbag came on and red to Leth the short blurb about Zote which says "he seems have got into quite the pickle" and then mossbag asked Leth "are pickles canon?" and Leth said "Oh no!",
and since Leth has attempted to get pickled items into Silksong as maybe some sort of food item? I even asked him about how the process was going a long time ago and he said "I have made my pitch now all I can do is wait" so maybe they will make it in just to spite mossbag.
The carnival of crabs. Was something from the kickstarter. It was William's elevator pitch for the "design a dungeon" tier/reward/level. As a This could be you or your idea goes here thing. I just find it really really funny that a carnival of crabs of all things is what William chose to represent the idea of you get to build a dungeon. I can give more if you want

Esmy that Sly mentions was also mentioned by Nailmasters. There are speculations that she was 4-th Nailmaster and there is a mysterious corpse near Mato location in howling cliffs that might be Esmy.

Right now I am at the trilobite statue part and my theory is that is the tomb/grave of the King of Deepnest as the trilobite is depicted with a crown and it seems to be so important that it is spell-proof. In the video linked above, around 6:45 (go back maybe 30 seconds-ish or so for the whole section) he talks about Hollow Knight: ZoteBoat, I have a bit of a theory about that. The quote from team cherry stating that “The next game we make will be in a different universe” (not the exact quote but that’s what it was referring to that could be a red herring and instead literally being like some Viking eswue Valhalla type of universe where zote is jnfsct w Viking prince. Just like legend of bumbo how Edmund McMillin saying something along the lines of “bumbo is set in a separate universe” (been a long time I forget the EXACT wording / phrase but he said it was In a different universe if I recall correctly). And yes we now know that it in fact was related to the isaac “universe”, he wasn’t LYING foresay, because the actual gameplay took place in a make believe world / “universe” in isaacs mind, AKA his imagination. Sooooo....
You guys probably, know what in getting at. Hollow Knight ZoteBoat could VERY WELL be the third Hollow Knight Game, as well as the best game to come, probably a few years before the twenty second century, 40~ish years after silk song releases (around 2050 of course). 110% kidding abojt that part but yea, I guarentee that IF THEY WERE IN FACT BEING SERIOUS ABOUT HOLLOW KNIGHT: ZOTEBOAT IN THE FIRST PLACE AND DID ORIGINALLY INTEND TO MAKE HK: ZOTEBOAT, then I deadass 1012%, full-heartedly, and on my soul believe that the game WILL In fact come out after silksong before any other game team cherry makes.

Unfortunately I don't think there's enough that I could find to talk about for a full video, so the Hollow Knight Iceberg will probably not have a sequel unless a huge developer leak happens. However, icebergs for other great games (like Silksong eventually, I hope!) are on the table!

One of my favorite pieces of trivia is that Grimm bows to you in the regular fight and the Godmaster in the Pantheon fight. I eat that sort of thing up
I am not aware about things that might debunk my theory but at 14:43 a theory that me and possibly a few others may have came up with is that hornet is born from a literal spider... That might mean that her face rips open to show her fangs or mouth. Some bugs have visible mouths but what I've seen so far after I have completed the mantis lord fight are the stalking devouts's mouth while also every character in deepnest I can think of shares this characteristic. The only thing I know about which can possibly debunk my theory is that there is no line in the middle of her face to reveal a mouth. Team cherry must've been asked about this but I'm too lazy to lookup that because I tried to look up what could debunk this theory only to find her not having a line in the middle of this face. Almost every npc shares this but the most noticeable one is elder bug. He has a visible mouth so if this turns out to be true he was born unnaturally... let me know if you had the same idea and No critism its what I think and continue to think about. Have a nice day.

I spoke with the creator of the iceberg and they stated that the "pointy mouth Hornet" line is simply in reference to some older promotional art in which the bottom of Hornet's mask is a bit more jagged than the smooth mask we're used to. Doesn't mean your theory isn't valid, but it's not what the iceberg is referring to. Sorry!
