You have no idea how long I have worked on this one single caliper bolt and how many different methods I have researched and tried until I was blessed to find your video in the search results, worked the very first time. I have no idea who you are and yet I will spend the rest of my life wondering how I could ever repay you. This suburban was closer to flying off of a cliff than it could ever realize
I noticed the pipe clamp right off the bat & was like what the hell?! Followed instantly by Eureka! I appreciate the tip, & hopefully, it helps. Rusty old Yukon sure makes these simple jobs so much fun! New to me Yukon & general run Mopars so learning some GM tricks is a lifesaver.
Thank you for your video.....I was about ready to cut the heads off and deal with the bolt shanks after the fact....your video gave me a way to remove those *************!!!! torx head bolts holding the calipers onto an 86' Fiero....took about 20 minutes to remove the 3 other calipers...but this last one (rt.rr) decided it wasn't going the traditional route. Wasn't easy getting everything required in place...but once in place....bolt came out right now! Altered your method a tad...but the principle is what was needed. Thank you!
Thank you so much. 6 year old video but helps me today. Came in to search RUclips after demolishing my thumb trying to get that t-55 loose. And I'll be heading to the parts store to get those replacement pins
Hey Kevin! Thank you 1,000 times for your video! I stripped out a torx on my motorcycle footpeg, due to excessive loctite and installation torque. I was dreading trying to drill it out and use an extractor, but your method worked beautifully! Thank you again very much!
Just did a complete brake upgrade on my 2000 Silverado had this same problem with the fronts. Since I was replacing everything I just pulled the bracket bolts and removed everything as 1 unit. Let the rebuilder worry about those bolts when they get the cores. On the subject of GM or probably most others and maybe even some other bolts. I don't remember the channel but there is a great video on using a box wrench and a scissor jack to break frozen bolts loose. Greay video wish I had found it a week ago.
Kevin I want to thank you! You just turned 3 hours of pure pissed off rage into a smile! That worked like a charm!! Thank you. I liked and subscribe my friend!
Thank you for this info. I saw the Torx head on my 2005 Yukon and said oh great then found your video with the correct bit size. Had to wait for the wife to get back with the other car before I could get the T55 bit at AutoZone. Pulled back the boot and sprayed them like you said. Sat overnight, broke free fairly easily. This after about 3 hours of trying to break loose the bolts for the abutement bracket. It took penetrating oil, hammer and fire before those suckers finally surrendered.
Have the exact vehicle. Got to driver front caliper and caliper pins were T-55 Torx head bolts. Threads were seized. Will probably try your idea, before trying heat. Got the rubber boots off and wrapped a PB Blaster soaked strip of rag around the whole thing overnight. Have already bought AC Delco loaded calipers - New !! Had to heat the new threaded caliper bolts to break them free. They were hex head bolts. You have a great video. Have bar clamps but not as good as your setup. Why can't the bolts be cut off with a sawzall ? They are probably a Grade 5 or Grade 8. Thank you for taking the time to make the video.
Hi Kevin Your video was very helpful for my brake job. Thanks I always go to u tube for helpful hints to do jobs. I have a 2006 yukon. Yes those should be a regular bolt head!!!!
I just got through replacing the front brakes on my '03 Tahoe. I used a cold chisel and a 32oz ball peen hammer making a notch in the collar of the head of the torx bolts which knocked them loose and then I was able to twist them out with my fingers using the T55 and it worked just fine I had no problems with it at all. I then replaced the bolts with new 18mm heads even though I could have reused the originals.
Your idea worked!! I used a large C- clamp to hold the rachet in place.. it worked! The brake job is complete.. but my bitching about GM's engineering staff isn't. Thanks again!
A curse upon the engineers who designed Chevy truck brakes. God forbid a man ever do his own pads (like I do on every other vehicle I own) without having to replace the entire calipers and bleed the damn lines. Rear brakes are the same story. That T55 bolt would be less seized up if they had welded it in. 3 hours, finally cut the bolt, drilled through the center, and swear it is one piece with the calipers. When brake time comes due on your Chevy, plan on selling a kidney to pay for it.
Hello. I had seen you're video and another video and Today I had purchased an 8in C clamp from Rural King and it worked great. My star caliper bolt was on top , Drivers side on my 04 Silverado 4x4. Thank you for the help , Much appreciated. Happy New Year !
I did this today and couldn't get lower bolt loose at all. I found if you get the one of them out you can tilt the unit out then slide the other pin out without loosening it. I had to remove the clamp from brake line to get enough line but it was so much easier. I didn't think to make a video but if anyone runs into this, you can just take top pin out, tilt the caliper out as far as it will go then slide it toward the engine. I will just do this next time I think as it would save from having to remove both pins which are a pain.
If you ever have to change the rotors, both have to come out though. One of my rotors was warped, so I did the trick in this video with a long pipe for leverage & the bolt finally broke free.
You are nothing less than amazing for sharing this information. Kudos to you my friend you get all the brownie points. Wish you have a wonderful New Year's for 2023 and want to thank you one more time. Hope it works if not I will call you to fix it for me for false advertisement. LOL bless your soul
ok so I thank you for giving back to the youtube community by making this video. my husband and I appreciate you but seriously why did u stop vid before action happened ? the suspense is killing us.....
I would probably use that system but I would heat it up 1st and even if you burn up the rubber boot on their you can replace that for 2 bucks. Heat up real good put your torque wrench or impact on it, if you have one and that baby or come right off. Agree with replacement of Star bits for sure.
Last time I had to remove a stripped caliper bolt I ended up cutting a 2” piece off the Allen wrench and had it welded to the head of the bolt then used a wrench to remove it. That was years ago and now I’m stuck with stripped torx bolts... GM just has to be f***ing with us now!
Not a bad idea,, why the he'll they choose torx is a mystery, why not use a hex head on something that's gonna see snow and salt. I have a fleet of trucks I take care of this has always worked use a Allen socket instead of the torx can remember size but a metric Allen socket and a long handle ratchet and try to push in while pulling

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR POSTING THIS VIDEO!!! This worked great!! I wasn’t sure what I was gonna do. Now they’re 18 mm bolts! You rock Kevin!!!

Clamping it did the trick. Appreciate you taking the time to make a video!

Torx 🙃, thanks for sharing the pain. Sierra im working on had the top pin blocked by the leaf spring ....

Hey boss I have an 06 I was having trouble with those tork bolts I used your clamp technique and it worked like a charm
Did you use a c clamp ?? I'm having trouble
Have the exact vehicle. Got to driver front caliper and caliper pins were T-55 Torx head bolts. Threads were seized. Will

This is genius !!
Will try this on my classic Porsche, caliper bolts completely seized and starting to strip.

Unfreaking believable that engineers for GM thought these bolts were a good idea. Smh. Thanks for the video.

And the torx head probably even cost more and underperforms
Thanks you sir. Exactly followed instructions and bam. It was loose. Thank you and keep these up. Not everyone has compressors etc.
Thanks Kevin, great job my good man.

thank you for making this video as i was at my wits end trying to get those ^%$#^$$^vtorx off
great idea cant believe i didnt think of this thank you
Sir, you are brilliant! I hope this will work on my dirt bike.
You saved the day! Thank you sir.
Thank you! These t55 bits are absolutely garbage..I tried everything but the c-clamp did it!
Glad i could help
Thank you for posting this time saving video.

thank you , your information was key thanks again

Thank you soooo much!! It worked perfectly
Thank you Sir! You literally just saved my day! You are the man!
Thanks for sharing! You're a good man.
Typical idiotic GM engineers.
Hey brother you were very helpful. Thank you🎉

Thanks for the advice a need one of those c clamps
I’m working on a 2013 Nissan NV2500 and it has recessed Allen head caliper pins and they are seized. What a night mare. I will try this method!
ok so I thank you for giving back to the youtube community by making this video. my husband and I appreciate you but seriously why did u stop vid before action happened ? the suspense is killing us.....
Life saver. Thanks a million.
Smart. Thank you sir.
How do you get them out when they're stripped already?!
Thanks!! Needed this info !
Thank you!!!!!!! Worked like a charm!
Good idea... appreciate you sharing it.

Where can I find a clamp like the one you're using?
I done broke 2 T55s.
This was an old bar clamp my papa had when he used to build cabinets. I have seen people use c clamps as well.
Great job, I appreciate you
Thank you
THANK YOU !!!
You may could try and use a flat chisel and hammer
Thank u so much
Thanks
Last time I had to remove a stripped caliper bolt I ended up cutting a 2” piece off the Allen wrench and had it welded to the head of the bolt then used a wrench to remove it. That was years ago and now I’m stuck with stripped torx bolts... GM just has to be f***ing with us now!
Thank you for this! I'm now going to give this a try.
Those start bits are easy to break off too
✅
THANKS!
Genius
Wish I tried this first
Um,,and,,anyway,,,!!!thanks it worked,,,f-n torques bit ,,,my ass,,,!!HAHA!!!

Bolt part# 83266
A real headache
There 7.99 each at napa
You didn't do it
Those came out on my 06 Yukon, it’s the rear caliper bracket bolts I can’t get off. Just started getting familiar with a blow torch
Thank you
